'My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier,' wrote Sydney, whose father is Brad's brother, Doug Pitt.

If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart,' Sydney continued. 'She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked. She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things. She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do.'

Sydney remembered her annual 'special day' with Jane which involved eating banana splits for breakfast, playing Trouble for hours, going on rides together at Silver Dollar City and eating dinner at Olive Garden.
'She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat,' Sydney said. 'There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it.'
'I don't know how we move forward without her,' Sydney continued of Jane. 'But I know she's still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form. We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us.'

Sydney Sweeney's Brother Breaks Silence on American Eagle Jeans Ad

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Sydney Sweeney's brother has broken his silence on her controversial American Eagle jeans ad. Newsweek reached out to Sweeney's representative for comment on Friday via email and Trent Sweeney via Instagram outside regular working hours. Why It Matters Sweeney—who rose to fame on Euphoria and The White Lotus—has been making headlines recently following the release of her commercial titled "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans." "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color," she says in the ad. "My jeans are blue." The line sparked a heated online debate about eugenics and racism, with some critics labeling it "Nazi propaganda." Others, however, pushed back against the uproar, arguing that the use of "jeans" and "genes" was nothing more than wordplay and creative marketing. According to Merriam-Webster, "Eugenics" is "the practice or advocacy of controlled selective breeding of human populations (as by sterilization) to improve the populations' genetic composition." Over the weekend, Newsweek and other outlets confirmed that Sweeney is registered as a Republican in Florida, prompting conservatives like President Donald Trump and Fox News host Jesse Watters to associate the actress with right-wing politics. However, she has not spoken out about her political affiliation. Sydney Sweeney (R) and brother Trent Sweeney attend the European premiere of "Echo Valley" at BFI Southbank on June 10, 2025 in London, Apple TV+ What To Know On Wednesday, Sweeney's brother, Trent Sweeney—who serves in the U.S. Air Force—took to his Instagram Stories to celebrate his promotion to staff sergeant. Alongside a photo of his certificate, he wrote, per People: "It's them good jeans." In June, the siblings attended the European premiere of the Apple TV+ film Echo Valley. While she wore a pale blue gown, he opted for an all black ensemble and sunglasses. "Thank you for letting me join you for the #EchoValley premiere," Trent Sweeney wrote on Instagram. "Had a lot of fun! Great movie as well if y'all wanna check it out! Also thank you @prada for setting up an amazing outfit! Definitely my favorite fit so far!" American Eagle addressed the widespread criticism in an Instagram post on Saturday. "'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story," the clothing brand wrote. "We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone." This isn't the first time Sweeney's brand partnership has gone viral. In May, the 27-year-old released a limited-edition soap with Dr. Squatch made from her own bathwater. At the time, however, she laughed off any critics. "I think it's more fun to see everyone else talk about it," she told E! News. "I pitched it." What People Are Saying Lizzo referred to Sweeney's American Eagle ad in her new song "I'm Goin' In Till October" on Instagram on Wednesday: "No kizzy, he ain't got no business being with me. Fat a** pretty face with the t******. B****, I got good jeans like I'm Sydney." President Donald Trump told reporters on Sunday: "She's a registered Republican? Oh, now I love her ad!" Trump added to his remarks in a statement posted to Truth Social on Monday: "Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out there. It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the shelves.' Go get 'em Sydney! On the other side of the ledger, Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER! The CEO just resigned in disgrace, and the company is in absolute turmoil. Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad. Shouldn't they have learned a lesson from Bud Lite, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short campaign, the Company. The market cap destruction has been unprecedented, with BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SO FOOLISHLY LOST. Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can't stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned—Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Robin Landa, an advertising expert and professor at Michael Graves College at Kean University, previously told Newsweek: "The campaign's pun isn't just tone-deaf—it's historically loaded." Political commentator Megyn Kelly, host of The Megyn Kelly Show, said on her show: "We're sick and f****** tired of the nonsense, where you are not allowed to ever celebrate someone who is white and blonde and blue-eyed. That we have to walk into a room apologetic for those things, or have for the past five years. In a way, this ad is the final declaration that we're done doing that s***. It doesn't mean we're better, but you know what? We're no worse than any other race or any other hair color or eye color." What Happens Next At the time of publication, Sweeney has not yet responded to the American Eagle backlash. Her new crime thriller Americana will be released in theaters on August 15.

The creator of 'Alien: Earth' challenged himself to invent monsters as scary as the Xenomorph. He thought about what upsets him the most.

The iconic and hideous Xenomorph has ripped, clawed, and munched its way through many helpless victims since first appearing in 1979's " Alien." So Noah Hawley, the creator and writer of the upcoming TV show " Alien: Earth," knew he had to conjure up some new monsters to match the horror of watching "Alien" for the first time, he told Business Insider in London. They include a strange eyeball with tentacles, which appears in one of the trailers. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Eammon Jacobs (@eammonjacobs) "I had to bring back the feeling of discovery of the lifecycle of a creature that every time you thought it had gotten as brutal and awful as it could get, it got worse. And I couldn't do that with a Xenomorph anymore," Hawley said. He approached the challenge of designing new creatures like a game. "You think about, well, what are the things that upset me the most? The bodily autonomy, parasites, all of it. And then you're doing an almost comedic game of what's the worst thing that could happen?" he said. "If they do enough disturbing things, then they become visually iconic, versus trying to make something that looks cool and then adding that in," he added. Hawley was also mindful of making sure the plentiful violence in the eight-episode series didn't become meaningless. Referring to the iconic chestburster scene in Alien, which director Ridley Scott famously didn't warn the cast how gory it would be, Hawley said: "I didn't work at a method level like that for the cast, but what I know at the heart of it is these deaths have to mean something. "And what makes them awful is not just the graphic nature of them, it's who they're happening to and the feelings that go around it." Good things come to those who wait, and for Hawley, horror is no different: "I feel like that horror is all about anticipation. So if there's too much delivery and not enough anticipation, then you've got the balance wrong." "Alien: Earth" starts streaming on Hulu on August 12 in the US and on August 13 on Disney+ in the UK.

Love Island: Are Megan and Conor still together?

Love Island's Megan and Conor had a true rollercoaster of a relationship during their time in the Villa. They entered the Villa as OGs, before becoming part of a love square, before finally getting together, only to have Megan dumped from the Villa, Conor go on to date multiple women, before Megan reentered the Villa and got her man back. And finally they were dumped together just before the live final on 4 August, with Conor happy to be leaving with Megan, saying of their time together so far: "I feel like it is satisfying [to have found Megan] because you come in looking to find someone and I have found something really good. I didn't think it would be a possibility to see out the journey with her." But since they've left the Villa, are the couple still together? Here's what you need to know. As of right now, it appears yes Megan and Conor are still very much together. The pair were dumped from the villa just a few episodes before the final and since then have appeared to have spent ht majority of their time together. They attended the live final together, with Megan posting a sweet picture of herself and Conor on Instagram before the finale, where she said: "what an experience!!! I've laughed, cried, belched & wouldn't have had it any other way 💅🏽 I've learned so much about myself throughout this journey and I am so so grateful for the love and support it's been a wild one!! got what I wanted in the end 💚." And just yesterday Conor shared a whole gallery of images of himself and Megan from their time on the show, captioning it: "finished business." So yeah they seem pretty happy right now. Ok so Megan and Conor have been part of Love Island 2025 since day one. They both entered the Villa, but didn't chose to couple up with each other. In fact for the first few weeks Megan spent the majority of time getting to know Tommy. Meanwhile, Conor, after an interesting first few days got to know new bombshell Emily very well. However, things started to get confusing when Megan and Conor began confessing their feelings for each other and admitted they wanted to crack on. This led to hurt feelings on Emily and Tommy's part, but they then ended up seeing each other, so actually it all worked out ok in the end. Well, except on day 19 Megan was dumped from the Island as part of the public vote, leaving Conor devastated. Conor wasn't devastated for too long as Casa Amor soon arrived and Conor got to know Harry's ex Emma and brought her back into the Villa. However, after a few days back in the main Villa it was clear from Conor's side he wasn't that interested in getting to know her more. And so he then cracked on with Shakira, who was one of his best mates in the Villa. The pair always got on super well and finding themselves both single decided to give it a go romantically. They went to the hideaway hot tub together and there seemed to be a connection forming. But it wasn't meant to be as Shakira called things off romantically with Conor, confessing she wasn't ready to start something new as she was still processing her feelings for Harry. Conor was sad about it for just a few minutes as he was then sent on a date with a new bombshell. Well, except she wasn't actually a new bombshell. Megan and Blu were brought back into the Villa and Megan chose to take Conor on a date. They agreed to rekindle things with the pair confessing their feelings for each other. After a very cute week in the Villa, the pair reach the last weekend on the show. Conor went out with the boys and picked out a very sweet matching bracelet for himself and Megan which he give her on their final date. He also cooked Megan a meal and bought her flowers too. At the end of the final dates, the Islanders the received a text saying the public had been voting for the most compatible couples. Megan and Conor were voted the least compatible and were therefore immediately dumped from the Island. The pair seemed in high spirits and were happy to leave the Villa. During their exit interviews Megan said she was much happier leaving the second time around, explaining: "It was a nice way to leave and I'm very happy. I took a big risk coming back because I could have easily been pied but I have gone out with what I came in for - everything happens for a reason." And Conor said his overriding feeling of leaving the villa is "happiness," before going onto add: "I went into the Villa looking to find someone that I could be in a relationship with and was hoping to make lifelong friends and to grow as a person, and I feel like I have done all the three. I did almost the whole ride and did everything I wanted to do so I have no complaints and I think it was my time to go." Since then the pair have spent time together and travelled back home to Ireland. Love Island is available for catchup on ITVX
