
Chery Group climbs fortune 500, OMODA&JAECOO break industry record with 570,000 sales
In just 26 months since their launch, OMODA&JAECOO have achieved over 570,000 cumulative global sales, becoming the fastest emerging brands in the industry to cross the half-million-unit milestone. In the first half of 2025, the brands' contribution to Chery Group's export volume grew to 37%, up from 21% in 2023.
OMODA&JAECOO have quickly established themselves as global leaders in hybrid technology. In the first quarter of 2025, the brands' NEV sales surged by 460% year-on-year, with NEVs now accounting for 51% of total sales.
The JAECOO J7 SHS (Super Hybrid System), the brands' flagship model equipped with proprietary SHS technology, has been the driving force behind this growth. The model continues to achieve monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units, leading the hybrid market in multiple regions and setting a benchmark for efficiency, performance, and sustainability.
In the first half of 2025, Chery Group sold 1.26 million vehicles globally, up 14.5% year-on-year, and exported 550,000 vehicles — accounting for 20% of China's total automobile exports. A Chery-made vehicle is sold overseas every 29 seconds, showcasing the group's strong presence in international markets.
Chery Group's NEV sales also reached 360,000 units, up 98.6% year-on-year, leading the industry in both volume and growth. Through cutting-edge innovations in hybrid technology, intelligent mobility, and safety systems, Chery and OMODA&JAECOO continue to provide consumers with smarter, greener, and more connected vehicles.
At present, OMODA&JAECOO offer only petrol models in the UAE, but as one of the brand's key strategic markets, the country is set to benefit from its advanced hybrid offerings. The JAECOO J7 SHS (Super Hybrid System), scheduled for launch by the end of August, will be a major highlight for UAE consumers seeking performance, efficiency, and low environmental impact in urban driving conditions.

Most Gulf equities tracked global stocks higher on Tuesday, as investors raised bets for interest rate cuts by the U.S. Federal Reserve, while a few positive corporate earnings also boosted sentiment. Expectations that the U.S. central bank could ease monetary policy soon have risen after a weak U.S. jobs report revived worries over the health of the world's biggest economy. Markets are now pricing in a 94% chance of a September rate cut, up from a 63% probability from before the data, according to CME's FedWatch Tool. The Fed's decisions have a significant impact on the Gulf region's monetary policy, as most currencies there are pegged to the U.S. dollar. The Qatari benchmark share index advanced 0.9% to 11,284, its highest level in more than 2-1/2 years with all stocks barring one in positive territory. Shares in Qatar National Bank, the region's largest lender, gained 1.2% while telecom services provider Ooredoo climbed 3.5%. Dubai's benchmark stock index was up 0.7%, with all of its constituents rising. Emirates NBD, the emirate's largest lender, rose 1.9% and tolls operator Salik Company added 1.6%. Elsewhere, Dubai's non-oil sector showed a solid recovery, with its PMI rising to 53.5 in July from 51.8 in June, driven by a sharper improvement in sales volumes. Saudi Arabia's benchmark stock index was up 0.8%, lifted by a 3.1% rise in Saudi Basic Industries while ADES Holding surged 10%, its highest intraday percentage gain since listing in 2023. Oil drilling group ADES has agreed to buy Oslo-listed rival Shelf Drilling for 3.9 billion Norwegian crowns ($379 million) in cash. Among other gainers, Lumi Rental rose 3.5% after the auto rental firm posted a 17.8% increase in second quarter net profit. The Abu Dhabi benchmark index was up 0.3% after two straight sessions of losses. First Abu Dhabi Bank, the UAE's largest bank, gained 2% and ADNOC Logistics added 1.1%. Outside the Gulf, Egypt's blue-chip index advanced for a fourth day and rose 1.6% to hit a record high at 35,254. Eastern Company soared 5.5% and Talaat Moustafa Group gained 0.7%. Meanwhile, Egypt's non-oil private sector showed signs of stabilisation in July, with employment rising for the first time in nine months and a softer decline in output and new orders, S&P Global Egypt PMI report said. US trade deficit narrows to $60.2bln in June
The U.S. trade deficit narrowed in June on a sharp drop in consumer goods imports, the latest evidence of the imprint on global commerce President Donald Trump is making with sweeping tariffs on imported goods. The overall trade gap narrowed 16.0% in June to $60.2 billion, the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis said on Tuesday. Days after reporting that the goods trade deficit tumbled 10.8% to its lowest since September 2023, the government said the full deficit including services also was its narrowest since September 2023. Exports of goods and services totaled $277.3 billion, down from more than $278 billion in May, while total imports were $337.5 billion, down from $350.3 billion. The diminished trade deficit contributed heavily to the rebound in U.S. gross domestic product during the second quarter, reported last week, reversing a drag in the first quarter when imports had surged as consumers and businesses front-loaded purchases to beat the imposition of Trump's tariffs. The economy in the second quarter expanded at a 3.0% annualized rate after contracting at a 0.5% rate in the first three months of the year, but the headline figure masked underlying indications that activity was weakening. Last week Trump, ahead of a self-imposed deadline of August 1, issued a barrage of notices informing scores of trading partners of higher import taxes set to be imposed on their goods exports to the U.S. With tariff rates ranging from 10% to 41% on imports to the U.S. set to kick in on August 7, the Budget Lab at Yale now estimates the average overall U.S. tariff rate has shot up to 18.3%, the highest since 1934, from between 2% and 3% before Trump returned to the White House in January.
