Australian govt offers aid to reporter shot in LA: FM
Canberra, June 11 (UNI) The Australian government has offered aid to a television news reporter who was shot with a rubber bullet while covering protests in Los Angeles (LA).
Penny Wong, Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs, said on Wednesday that the government has reached out to reporter Lauren Tomasi through the Consulate General in LA and is ready to provide "any assistance" she needs.
Tomasi, the U.S. correspondent for Australia's Nine Network News, was covering the ongoing protests sparked by immigration raids in LA on Sunday local time when she was shot in the leg with a rubber bullet fired by a police officer.
Wong told Nine Network television on Wednesday that footage of the incident captured a "really awful" moment.
"Australia believes in a free media and journalists should be able to do their job safely," Wong said on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday said that he had spoken to Tomasi, who he said was OK, and that the government has raised the "horrific" incident with the U.S. administration.

Imran's bail plea hearing cancelled as judge goes on leave
Islamabad, June 12 (UNI) Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed hope for the early release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi in the 190 million pounds case, which was cancelled after a judge went on leave. Justice Mohammad Arif, a member of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) division bench, went on leave, due to which the case was dropped from the cause list. Senior PTI members went to IHC, met officials in the chief justice's secretariat to ask for rescheduling for hearing. The court fixed June 26 for hearing the plea, seeking suspension of sentence, Dawn reported. PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the Natio¬nal Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and Imran Khan's sister Aleema Khan, were among the PTI leaders who went to the Islamabad High Court. Talking to the media, PTI chairman expressed his disappointment over the delay, and hoped for Imran Khan's early release. 'The judge was on leave, so the case could not be heard today. But the day is not far when the PTI founder would walk free,' he told Dawn. Stalin hikes Paddy procurement price to Rs 2,500 per quintal
Chennai, Jun 12 (UNI) Soon after releasing waters from the Mettur dam on the scheduled date of June 12, Thursday, for irrigation and enable farmers in Cauvery delta region to take up Kuruvai crop cultivation, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin brought more cheers to them by hiking the procurement price of paddy to Rs 2,500 per quintal. Speaking at an official function in Salem soon after opening the sluice gates of the Stanley Reservoir for irrigating more than 17.15 lakh acre of farm lands, began his address with an announcement that the farmers would henceforth get Rs 2,500 per quintal as procurement price for paddy. Mr Stalin said the procurement price for ordinary variety of paddy has been raised to Rs 131 and for fine variety to Rs 156. Thanks to this hike, the farmers would get procurement price of Rs 2,500 for ordinary variety and Rs 2,545 for fine variety. This will benefit more than 10 lakh farmers, he added. Stating that the Cauvery waters was the lifeline for delta districts to be known as the rice bowl of Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister said, by storing the cauvery water to irrigate 16 districts, the Mettur dam was opened on the scheduled date for the last four years including today, much to the delight of farmers to enable them to take up Kuruvai crop cultivation. "With such immense happiness, I have come to Salem to attend this function after opening the dam for irrigation", he said, and announced that by adding more happiness to farmers, they would now get an enhanced procurement price of Rs 2,500 for paddy per quintal. During the function, Mr Stalin inaugurated 225 completed projects and laid foundation stone for 509 new ones at a total cost of Rs 1,649.18 crore, and distributed welfare schemes to 1,01,203 beneficiaries to the tune of Rs 204 crores. Odisha: Man injured in communal clash dies; Internet services suspended for 24 hrs in Bhadrak
Bhubaneswar, June 12 (UNI) The Bhadrak District Administration has suspended internet services for 24 hours, starting from 6 AM on Thursday, anticipating a law and order issue following the death of a man who was injured in a communal clash a few days ago. The administration stated that internet services would remain suspended from 6 AM Thursday to 6 AM Friday in sensitive areas including Bhadrak Municipality, Bhadrak Block, Tihidi Block, Dhamnagar Block, and Dhamnagar Notified Area Council (NAC) as a precautionary measure to maintain public order. Santosh Parida, a resident of Kasati village in Tihidi, who had sustained injuries during a communal clash on May 30, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday at a private hospital. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had already announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to Parida's next of kin and promised employment for one family member. Expressing grave concern over the incident, Majhi assured that strict action would be taken against the culprits and justice would be served. The Odisha government has deployed 27 platoons of police in the affected areas. So far, 12 individuals, including the prime accused, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Efforts are also underway to organise peace committee meetings involving leaders from both communities to prevent law and order problems. Bhadrak SP Manoj Rout confirmed that the internet suspension was enforced following the death of Santosh Parida.
