Saints schedule Top 30 draft visit with playmaking ECU cornerback Shavon Revel Jr.
The New Orleans Saints aren't wasting any time scheduling their Top 30 visits with NFL draft prospects. These are a big deal -- 30 prospects in the 2025 draft will be flown into New Orleans for a full-day visit at the team headquarters in Metairie. They'll tour the facility and locker room, go through medical checkups, and interview with coaches and team brass. And the first of their 30 visits is scheduled with East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr.
KPRC2 Houston's Aaron Wilson first reported that Revel would be meeting with the Saints for his first pre-draft visit, which was confirmed by Ryan Wilson for The Draft Network to be set for Thursday, March 6. He's a fascinating prospect despite having suffered a torn ACL last September. The 22-year old weighed in at a hair under 6-foot-2 and 194 pounds at the combine, with long arms (measuring 32 5/8-inch) setting him up well for press coverage at the pro level.
In 2023, Revel earned second-team All-AAC honors for having logged 13 pass breakups, an interception, a fumble recovery and a sack, plus 54 tackles. He was limited to three games in 2024 before the knee injury and still intercepted two passes. He's a playmaker.
And the Saints could use him. They don't have a number-one cornerback after trading Marshon Lattimore so long as the specter of losing Paulson Adebo in free agency lingers over them. The only corners under contract for 2025 are Alontae Taylor, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Rico Payton and Rejzohn Wright. They don't just need bodies at the position. They need difference makers.
It's been speculated that, had he been healthy, Revel would have been a top-20 pick in this year's draft. Instead his injury is hurting his draft stock and he could slip out of the first round altogether, much like McKinstry experienced a year ago. It remains to be seen how much time he'll need to finish recovering from knee surgery this offseason but Revel could give the Saints a big boost in the secondary once he's back on his feet. They're certainly interested to be bringing him into town for a private visit.

NFL Pro Bowler shares devastating toll injuries took on career: 'Literally couldn't walk'

Terron Armstead called it a career after playing in the NFL for 12 years and earning four Pro Bowl selections between his time with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins. The 33-year-old offensive lineman battled injuries toward the end of his career. He pointed to the pain as being one of the reasons why he decided to hang up his cleats. "I've been dealing with a knee since my third year in the league," he said in an appearance on the "Nightcap Show." "I didn't see a practice field at all, and not because I didn't want to or the Dolphins just wanted me to rest. It's like I literally couldn't walk. "After a game on Sunday, I wouldn't be able to walk on my own, under my own power, until Wednesday, Thursday. So I was only able to play under the pain meds. I couldn't put any pressure on my knee, so it was like, I can't keep doing that to myself." The Saints chose Armstead in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played in six games in his rookie year before he earned his spot on the offensive line in 2014. He never appeared in all 16 or 17 games during an NFL season. He played the final three years with the Dolphins, and announced his retirement in April. "This was always more than a game to me! This has literally been my LIFE! I look back at my entire journey and I walk away grateful, proud, excited, and at peace, knowing I did it the right way!! Full investment to maximize the blessings God gave me!!" he wrote in part on X. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

New Orleans Saints Lead NFL in Cap Space Gained After June 1st Roster Moves

New Orleans Saints Lead NFL in Cap Space Gained After June 1st Roster Moves originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New Orleans Saints continue to get cap relief. The Saints are projected to earn the most cap relief thanks to June 1st designations, per Over The Cap. New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr (4) drops back to pass against the New York Giants during the first quarter at MetLife Stadium. Brad Penner-Imagn Images The big boost to the team's cap space is thanks to the retirements of All-Pro tackle Ryan Ramczyk and veteran quarterback Derek Carr. Carr's cap hit will drop from $20.46 million to either $13.458 million or $19.207 million pending the league's decision on the signing bonus Carr agreed to return. Advertisement Ramczyk's retirement is expected to return $1.25 million to the team with his dead money cap at $11.08 million. The Saints have remained disciplined during free agency and aren't expected to use their newly acquired money to make multiple big moves. New Orleans has been working towards getting cap-compliant for the 2026 offseason and will likely use their estimated $30 million in cap space to roll over in 2026. Despite the team's discipline in spending, there are multiple holes in the roster and the Saints could look to address their depth. The biggest name associated with New Orleans is free agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. who the team brought in for a visit in May. Samuel Jr. is scheduled to get a check-up in July and after could be a coveted free agent that New Orleans could target. Advertisement The Saints are in the midst of a soft rebuild and having the money roll over for the 2026 offseason is important. If Spencer Rattler or Tyler Shough end up being the team's quarterback of the future, having money to spend while their young quarterback is on a rookie contract will be pivotal to competing soon. New Orleans Saints Quarterback Competition Heats Up in Final Week of OTAs

New Orleans Saints Quarterback Competition Heats Up in Final Week of OTAs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New Orleans Saints quarterback competition stays hot. The final practice open to the media for OTAs highlighted the intense battle between rookie quarterback Tyler Shough and second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler. New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough (6)Stephen Lew-Imagn Images On Thursday, the Saints' offense worked in the red zone. Spencer Rattler ended the day 6/8 passing with 3 touchdowns, while Shough finished 7/8 passing with one touchdown. Both players rotated working with the first and second teams. Advertisement The quarterback battle became public first during the open portion of the first week of OTAs when Shough and Rattler each had impressive showings. During 7-on-7 sessions, Rattler went a perfect 8/8 passing, while Shough followed up closely, going 7/8 with a deep 50+ yard bomb to Shaheed. The two young signal callers continued their impressive runs in 7-on-7 drills the following week. During the open portion of the Saints week two OTAs, Shough went 9/12 with 2 touchdowns and an interception. The rookie quarterback's touchdowns came excitingly, with both being 60+ yard deep passes. Rattler continues to be right on Shough's trail, however, going 10/12 passing. Shough finishes OTAs going 23/28 for 3 touchdowns and an interception while Rattler ends 24/28 passing with 3 touchdowns. Both players delivered impressive performances, continuing the tight battle for the starting quarterback. While head coach Kellen Moore said the team will maintain similar workouts during minicamp, the real battle will begin in training camp, when teams will be allowed contact drills. As training camp ramps up and bleeds into preseason, a starter will be named.
