Filmmaker Manish Gupta booked for allegedly stabbing driver with kitchen knife over pay dispute
Filmmaker Manish Gupta was booked for allegedly injuring his driver with a kitchen knife after an argument over the latter's salary, a Mumbai police official said on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday night in Gupta's residence in Sagar Sanjog building, the Versova police station official said. Gupta allegedly injured his driver of three years, Rajibul Islam Lashkar (32), the official said. Gupta has been booked under sections 118(2), 115(2) and 352 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace and other offences, but is yet to be arrested, he added.
Lashkar's advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh sought the immediate arrest of Gupta.
According to a Free Press Journal report, the FIR stated that Lashkar had worked with the filmmaker for three years, for a salary of ₹23,000. However, Lashkar alleged that he was never paid on time. On May 30, Gupta allegedly sacked him without clearing his dues. To earn back his money, Lashkar rejoined duty, but was still not paid, the driver claimed. This led to a verbal argument between the two on Friday night at the filmmaker's Versova residence. Lashkar alleges that Gupta stabbed him with a kitchen knife during the argument.
Lashkar then rushed to the nearby Cooper Hospital and after receiving medical treatment, filed an FIR against the filmmaker at the Versova Police Station.
A screenwriter and director, Manish Gupta has directed films like The Stoneman Murders and 420 IPC. His last directorial venture was the 2023 legal drama, One Friday Night, which starred Raveena Tandon and Milind Soman. He had earlier served as a writer in Ramgopal Varma's team, writing the screenplay of films like D and Sarkar.

ICICI Bank RM allegedly swindles ₹4.58 crore from customer accounts in Kota, loses most of it in stocks
A relationship manager in an ICICI bank branch in Kota allegedly swindled around ₹4.58 crore from customers' accounts only to lose the lot of it in the stock market, police on Friday (June 7, 2025) said. She was arrested last week and is currently under judicial custody, they said. The accused, Sakshi Gupta, was posted as a relationship manager at ICICI Bank's DCM branch. Police said she had been pilfering from more than 110 accounts belonging to 41 customers for around two and a half years. She allegedly invested these amounts in the stock market and lost a large chunk of it, they said. Branch manager Tarun Dadich filed a complaint against her at the Udhyog Nagar Police Station on February 18, accusing her of siphoning ₹4.58 crore from customer accounts. Based on the complaint, Ms. Gupta, who worked at the branch from 2020 to 2023, was arrested on May 31. During the investigation, it was revealed that she changed the mobile numbers linked with several accounts to her relatives' numbers, ensuring that transaction alerts and OTPs were not received by the real account holders. Sub Inspector Ibrahim said Ms. Gupta systematically transferred funds to different accounts, in some cases using an elderly woman's account, who was unaware of the activity, as a "pool account." By February 15, 2023, she had transferred more than Rs 3 crore to this account alone, he said. He alleged that Ms. Gupta misused debit cards, PINs, and OTPs for these transactions, and even activated overdraft facilities on 40 accounts without consent. She prematurely closed fixed deposits of 31 customers' accounts, funnelling over ₹1.34 crore. She also took out a personal loan of ₹3.40 lakh. Police said that many transactions were conducted using Insta Kiosk installations and various digital banking platforms, with at least four customers' debit cards used for ATM and internet banking. Proceeds from these activities were sent to demat accounts as part of the attempted cover-up. Ms. Gupta was arrested from her parental home in Chittorgarh district's Rawatbhata. She was sent to judicial custody after a one-day remand for interrogation, SI Ibrahim said. Meanwhile, an ICICI Bank spokesperson, in a press note, said, "The interests of our customers are of paramount importance to us. Immediately upon discovering the fraudulent activity, we filed an FIR with the police. "We have a zero-tolerance policy against any fraudulent activity and thus suspended the employee involved. We would like to reassure that genuine claims of impacted customers have been settled."

Kota: Principal, hostel warden among 4 booked for MBBS student's alleged suicide
Jaipur: The Kota police in Rajasthan on Saturday lodged a first information report (FIR) against the principal, and hostel warden along with two other students of the Kota Government Medical College in connection with the alleged death by suicide of a 28-year-old medical student on March 5, said officials. The station house officer (SHO) of Mahaveer Nagar police station, Ramesh Kabia, said, 'The FIR was based on a direction by the SC/ST Commission last week. We have lodged the report against the principal of the college, the hostel warden, and two other students for falsely implicating the victim in a case of copying during an exam last year and then barring him from the future exams, which caused significant mental stress on him that led the student to take the extreme step. The victim's family also alleged that it is possible that their son was murdered planfully by the accused. We are probing the matter.' According to the officials, the victim, a native of Jaipur's Bassi, was found dead at his hostel room in the college campus on March 5. 'He was a third-year student in the college at the time of death. A suicide note was also found from his belongings in which he stated that he had no reason to live as he failed to fulfil his parents' dreams.' Kabia further added: 'Prima facie, he was found copying in an exam in 2023 after which the college administration barred him from appearing in the future exams. Despite several requests, the administration declined to withdraw the order. The victim's father, in his primary report on March 19, alleged that his son was falsely accused of copying in the exam. The administration's approach had caused severe mental stress on him but the college still refused to listen to him.' 'His father also alleged that he suspects it could be a planned murder as there were injury marks on his body. However, police have not found anything in the autopsy report so far. We are checking the CCTV footage and will also question the accused regarding the matter,' said Kabia. The latest FIR was lodged against the college principal Sangeeta Saxena, the then-hostel warden Nilesh Jain, and two of the victim's classmates Adarsh Foujdar and Sandeep Man under section 102 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and necessary sections of SC/ST Act. Commenting on the case, Principal Saxena said, 'I have never met the boy and his family before. I had a word with our exam supervisors and members of the academic council who informed me that he was found copying from the phone and was barred from appearing in any exam. He was at home only after that incident. He arrived in the college only four days before his death.' She further added: 'It is surprising how my name appeared in this case. The warden Jain informed me about the suicide incident. I called the police. They recovered the body from the room. It is a suicide case only.' -------------------------------------------------- If you need support or know someone who does, please reach out to your nearest mental health specialist. Bank Official, Who Stole Crores From FDs And Invested In Stocks, Suspended
An ICICI Bank relationship manager, who allegedly stole Rs 4.58 crore from customer accounts, has been suspended. She has been accused of stealing the money to invest in the stock market, only to incur huge losses. Sakshi Gupta, who worked at the bank's DCM branch in Kota, Rajasthan, misused the 'User Fixed Deposit' link to illegally withdraw money from over 110 accounts belonging to 41 customers between 2020 and 2023. Police said she was arrested on May 31 and sent to judicial custody. An ICICI Bank spokesperson said an FIR had been filed against Ms Gupta, reported news agency PTI. 'The interests of our customers are of paramount importance to us. Immediately upon discovering the fraudulent activity, we filed an FIR with the police,' the bank official said. Reiterating its stance against fraud, the bank added, "We have a zero-tolerance policy against any fraudulent activity and thus suspended the employee involved. We would like to reassure that genuine claims of impacted customers have been settled.' The matter came to light when a customer reached the bank to inquire about his fixed deposit (FD). Branch manager Tarun Dadich filed a complaint against Ms Gupta at the Udhyog Nagar Police Station on February 18. Ramlal Suman, an ICICI Bank customer, said that over Rs 10 lakh had gone missing from his account. He said that customers were stressed after the scam came to light since the bank was regarded as a safe place to deposit money. Mr Suman added, "I met Sakshi Gupta several times when I used to go to the branch. She used to enter details in the bank diary with a pen instead of a machine. This continued for three to four months, and I didn't receive any messages related to transactions on my mobile phone as well. The new bank manager told me that I was a victim of fraud. But a few months ago, I realised that something was wrong when I came to get my bank statements. I mentioned this to the bank, and the manager explained the whole scam to me, assuring me that my money would be returned." Sub-Inspector Ibrahim Khan explained how Ms Gupta shifted funds to different accounts. In some cases, the transfer was made using an elderly woman's account as a "pool account." "She linked the phone numbers of her family members to these accounts and withdrew more than Rs 4 crore. She even devised a system that she used to get the OTPs on her system so that the account holders don't get a whiff of the fraud," the investigating officer told NDTV. Ibrahim Khan alleged that Ms Gupta had misused debit cards, OTPs and PINs for the transactions. She had also activated overdraft facilities on 40 accounts without the consent of the customers. She prematurely closed fixed deposits of 31 accounts, swindling over Rs 1.34 crore, police said. Many of the transactions were conducted using kiosk installations and digital platforms, according to the police. At least four customers' debit cards were used for internet banking and ATM transactions. The proceeds were sent to demat accounts as an attempt to cover up the scam. Ms Gupta was arrested from her parental home in Rawatbhata, Chittorgarh district. She was sent to judicial custody after a one-day remand for interrogation.
