Gujarat: 700 documents examined, 100 individuals questioned in Narmada fake income probe
The Narmada Police in Gujarat have sprung into action following serious concerns raised by a Member of Parliament, Mansukh Vasava, during the District Coordination Committee meeting regarding fraudulent income certificates being used in the district.
The MP highlighted that several bogus documents were allegedly being created and used to claim entitlements such as old age pensions, widow pensions, and possibly even benefits under the Right to Information (RTI) scheme.
The concern was not only about the false claims but also about the potential involvement of middlemen, private agents, or even government personnel who may be facilitating this fraudulent practice.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Narmada district constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), who is heading the SIT, confirmed that around 700 documents have been examined so far, and 100 individuals were questioned at Rajpipla Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.
'If the documents are found to be falsified, the individuals responsible for submitting them will be treated as accused in the case,' said the DySP.
Notably, some of the alleged accused have already applied for anticipatory bail in the district court. The Narmada Police have filed objections to these applications, and the matter is currently under judicial review.
The SIT is also probing whether any government officials or private agents played a role in the creation of these bogus documents.
If found complicit, their names will be added to the list of accused.
Authorities are also investigating that if the forged documents were used to exploit government welfare schemes, such as old age pensions, widow pensions, or benefits under the RTI scheme.
The police emphasised that there is no political interference in the investigation and that the force is committed to conducting the probe fairly and impartially.
'The rule of law will prevail. No one, regardless of their position or connection, will be spared if found guilty,' the DySP concluded.

Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Who is the mastermind? Sonam Raghuvanshi or Raj Kushwaha... SIT makes shocking claims
Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Who is the mastermind? Sonam Raghuvanshi or Raj Kushwaha... SIT makes shocking claims The twist and turns in the honeymoon Meghalaya murder case is far from over. According the recent development, mastermind of the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi is Raj Kushwaha and Sonam supported him. Five people, including Raja Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam (25) and her alleged lover Kushwaha (20), have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi (29) in the north-eastern state last month. All of them are currently in the Meghalaya police's custody and an SIT is probing the case. The SIT in its initial investigation is claiming that mastermind of the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi is Raj Kushwaha and not Sonam. The elder brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based transport businessman murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, on Friday demanded a narco analysis test on prime accused Sonam and Raj Kushwaha to uncover the 'entire truth' behind the sensational case. Sonam was to dissapear? All three accused are friends of Raj and Sonam and one was Raj's cousin. No contract was given. All three accused participated in the murder due to friendship. In February, both of them had conspired that Sonam would suddenly disappear. After her disappearance, it would seem that she was swept away in the river. The second conspiracy was to murder someone else, place her on Sonam's scooter and set it on fire, so that it appeared that Sonam has been murdered. But when all this could not happen, Raja and Sonam got married. They came to visit Kamakhya. The three accused also came to Guwahati on 19 May. Their plan was to kill Raja in Guwahati itself.

Honeymoon murder: Raja Raghuvanshi's kin seeks narco test on Sonam, her lover to bare 'full truth'
The elder brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based transport businessman murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, on Friday demanded a narco analysis test on prime accused Sonam and Raj Kushwaha to uncover the "entire truth" behind the sensational case. Sonam is accused of getting her husband killed during their honeymoon with the help of Kushwaha and three contract killers, a case which has sent shockwaves across the country. "We want the Meghalaya police to conduct a narco test (also called truth serum test) on Sonam and Kushwaha so that the full truth behind my brother's murder comes out," Raja's elder brother Sachin Raghuvanshi told PTI in Indore. Sachin Raghuvanshi said reports coming in about the duo's interrogation suggest they may be misleading investigators by blaming each other as the mastermind of the brutal killing. "It appears Sonam and Kushwaha are colluding to misdirect the probe," he claimed. The duo could not have executed the murder conspiracy on their own, Sachin Raghuvanshi insisted. "I believe more people are involved in the conspiracy, but they are still out of police reach. Their names may surface through narco analysis," he contended. During a narco analysis test, a drug, sodium pentothal, is injected into the body of the subject which takes him to a hypnotic state, and his imagination is neutralised, leading him to gives true information about an incident. Calling for a thorough probe into the entire episode, he expressed suspicion that Sonam's family, particularly her mother, was aware of her alleged relationship with Kushwaha before marriage, but her wedding with Raja Raghuvanshi, which took place on May 11, went ahead under family pressure. Sachin Raghuvanshi demanded that the case be tried in a fast-track court and that the culprits be handed "double life imprisonment". "The conspiracy to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi was hatched in Indore, shortly before his wedding with Sonam on May 11, and the mastermind is Raj Kushwaha while the woman had agreed to the plot," East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said earlier. A few days after the wedding, Raja and Sonam left for picturesque Sohra (also called Cherrapunjee) in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district and went missing on May 23. His body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2, while a search continued for Sonam. She emerged in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, around 1,200 km away from the crime spot, in the early hours of June 9 and surrendered before police. Besides Sonam and Kushwaha, police have arrested three suspected contract killers -- Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi. "The three young people were friends, and one of them is a cousin of Raj. It was not a typical contract killing. Yes, the plan was to kill and they did it as a favour to their friend Raj," Syiem said. Kushwaha had given them ₹50,000 to cover travel and other expenses, he said. The planning started in February in Indore and they had thought of ways about how Sonam would disappear after the killing of Raja, said the police officer.

Honeymoon murder case: Raja's brother says Sonam and Raj trying to mislead probe, seeks narco test of duo
NEW DELHI: The elder brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, the 29-year-old Indore-based transport businessman who was brutally murdered while on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, has called for a narco analysis test on Raja's wife and her alleged lover to reveal the 'full truth' behind the shocking crime. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sachin Raghuvanshi on Friday demanded authorities to conduct the test on Raja's 25-year-old wife, Sonam, and her alleged lover, 20-year-old Raj Kushwaha. Both are prime accused in the murder and currently in Meghalaya Police custody, along with three others. The state police have set up a special investigation team (SIT) to dig deeper into the case, which has drawn nationwide attention for its chilling nature and suspected conspiracy. 'We want the Meghalaya police to conduct a narco test on Sonam and Kushwaha so that the full truth behind my brother's murder comes out,' Sachin told PTI. He also said that the two were trying to mislead the investigation by blaming each other 'It appears Sonam and Kushwaha are colluding to misdirect the probe," he said, further insisting that the duo could not have executed the murder conspiracy on their own. "I believe more people are involved in the conspiracy, but they are still out of police reach. Their names may surface through narco analysis." Sachin also alleged that Sonam's mother may have known about her daughter's relationship with Kushwaha before the wedding. Raja married Sonam on May 11. Just days later, the couple travelled to Sohra (Cherrapunjee) in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district for their honeymoon. They were reported missing on May 23. Raja's body was recovered on June 2 from a gorge near Weisawdong Falls. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sonam resurfaced on June 9 in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh—some 1,200 km away—where she surrendered to police. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem earlier confirmed that the murder was planned in Indore before the wedding. 'The conspiracy to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi was hatched in Indore, shortly before his wedding with Sonam on May 11, and the mastermind is Raj Kushwaha while the woman had agreed to the plot,' he said. Apart from Sonam and Kushwaha, police have arrested three more accused: Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi. The trio are childhood friends of Kushwaha, with one being his cousin. Police said they were not typical contract killers but had carried out the murder as a 'favour' for their friend. Kushwaha had given them Rs 50,000 to cover travel and other expenses and the planning began in February and included ideas on how Sonam would vanish after the murder, he added. Sachin also urged that the case should be tried in a fast track court and the culprits should be given a 'double life imprisonment.' What is a narco test? During a narco test or a truth serum test, sodium pentothal, a drug, is injected into the subject's body, which takes him to a hypnotic state. This state neutralises his imagination, leading him to reveal true information about any incident.
