"Definition of dumb...": Anurag Kashyap criticizes Netflix CEO for questioning 'Sacred Games' launch strategy

India Gazette7 hours ago

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has responded strongly to recent remarks made by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos about the streaming platform's initial programming choices in India.
Kashyap, who co-created Netflix India's debut original series 'Sacred Games', did not mince words in his criticism.
The controversy began during Sarandos' appearance on a podcast, where the executive reflected on Netflix's early foray into the Indian market.
He expressed reservations about whether launching with 'Sacred Games' in 2018 was the right strategic move, suggesting the platform might have benefited from a more 'populist' content offering at the time.
Kashyap took to Instagram to express his displeasure, sharing a screenshot of a report on Sarandos' comments.
In a post, he wrote, 'He should have started with Saas Bahu... he would have done well. Which he is doing now. I always knew the tech guys are dumb when it comes to storytelling, but @tedsarandos is the definition of dumb - that I didn't know. Good to discover that. This explains everything now.'

'Sacred Games', starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, was widely praised upon its debut and marked a pivotal moment in India's streaming content landscape.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, the gritty thriller was lauded for its storytelling and production value, although its second season drew mixed reactions, and the series was not continued beyond that. (ANI)

7 Million Views, But Not Real: IFS Exposes Viral Lion Video, Claims It Is AI-Generated

Last Updated: In the comment section, some people were amazed by the video, while others asked IFS how to differentiate between AI-generated and real videos. In today's time, AI-generated videos are taking over social media, with some being so lifelike that it's hard to distinguish reality from fiction. A recent viral clip has sparked debate, showing a lion approaching a sleeping man in an Indian street, sniffing him, and then walking away unscathed. The internet is buzzing with questions: 'Is this real or AI-generated? The video garnered 7 million views on social media, and now it's been claimed as AI-generated by IFS Parween Kaswan. This raises important questions about the potential for AI to be used to mislead or confuse people. Given that AI is still in its early stages, it's concerning to think about the possibilities as the technology continues to evolve. This video showing a lion sniffing human has around 7 millions views. This is AI generated video. Imagine how AI can be used to confuse people. And now imagine AI is still at nascent stage !! — Parveen Kaswan, IFS (@ParveenKaswan) June 8, 2025 In the comment section, some people were amazed by the video, while others asked IFS how to differentiate between AI-generated and real videos. 'Sir, can you please elaborate on how you identify this video generated by AI?" one user asked. 'Imagine how deepfake and AI can make far up tensions in some parts, which are sensitive," the other commented. First Published: June 08, 2025, 13:49 IST

Atlantic Starr founder, singer Wayne Lewis passes away at 68

Washington DC [US], June 8 (ANI): Wayne Lewis, a founding member of the R&B band 'Atlantic Starr' who sang vocals, and is known to pen hits like 'Always' and 'Secret Lovers', passed away, as informed by his band. The 'Atlantic Starr' band shared the news of Wayne Lewis' demise on their Facebook handle, asking for "respect for privacy" for the singer's family. The cause of the death was not revealed by the band. According to Deadline, Atlantic Starr, a New York-based band, was founded in 1976 by Wayne Lewis and his two brothers -- David Lewis (vocalist and guitarist) and Jonathan Lewis (keyboardist and trombonist) -- as well as drummer Porter Carroll Jr., bassist Clifford Archer and percussionist-flautist Joseph Phillips. Early members also included lead singer Sharon Bryant (later replaced by Barbara Weathers), trumpeter William Sudderth and saxophonist Damon Rentie (replaced afterward by Koran Daniels). According to the outlet, throughout the late '70s and early '80s, Atlantic Starr scored several hits on the R&B charts, including 'Circles', which marked the group's first single to hit the Billboard Hot 100. Later tracks, like 'Always,' peaked at No. 1 on the coveted chart, while 1992's 'Masterpiece' peaked at No. 3. First signing to A&M, the group then moved over to Warner Bros. Records, having trimmed down to a quintet with the three Lewis brothers, Phillips and Weathers by 1987, reported Deadline. Following the smash success of "Always," Weathers left to pursue a solo career and was replaced with a number of other female vocalists. In 1992, the Atlantic Starr members appeared as themselves and performed on an episode of daytime soap Another World, reported Deadline. Wayne Lewis and David Lewis are credited with writing most of the band's songs. The group's most recent album, Metamorphosis, was released in 2017. (ANI)
