President Colombian Condemns Sending Mercenaries to Fight in Ukraine
Colombian President Gustavo Petro condemned the phenomenon of sending Colombian mercenaries to fight in Ukraine, describing it as "a method of stealing the state."
Petro said in a post on his X account on Friday: "Mercenary work is a method of plundering the state. Public funds invested in training personnel to defend Colombia are now being used in deadly armed conflicts that the Colombian people do not want to participate in."
The Colombian president called for "the protection of the lives of young Colombians, whose lives are being exploited by private security companies linked to criminal circles."
Petro's statements came in response to revelations made by the Russian ambassador to Bogotá, Nikolai Tavdomadze, in an interview with Sputnik. Tavdomadze indicated that "the number of Colombians heading to Ukraine as mercenaries remains high," asserting that "Kyiv is recruiting them through its diplomatic missions, in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations."
The Colombian ambassador to Moscow, Hector Isidro Arenas Neyra, had previously told Sputnik that the Colombian government did not have accurate data on the number of citizens participating in the conflict in Ukraine.
Last March, the families of Colombian mercenaries held a protest in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bogotá, demanding information from the government about the fate of their sons.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Zionist aggression on Hodeida reflects criminal entity's failure in Yemen
Sana'a - Saba: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned in the strongest terms the barbaric Zionist entity's aggression on the port of Hodeidah and its civilian facilities. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered the Zionist aggression on the port of Hodeida an expression of its deep hatred for the Yemeni people's steadfast position against the crimes of genocide and starvation committed by the criminal entity, which is affirmed every week through the millions-strong rallies called for by the leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi. The Ministry affirmed that the continued aggression on the port of Hodeidah represents a flagrant and blatant violation of Yemen's sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity, as well as of the United Nations Charter, international law, and all international norms, charters, and laws. It indicated that the repeated aggression on the civilian port of Hodeida reflects the continued failure of the usurping entity and its failure to achieve any noteworthy accomplishment in Yemen, which has humiliated the entity. The statement pointed out that the Zionist aggression against Yemen will only strengthen Yemen and the Yemeni people's determination to continue supporting Gaza, which is being subjected to the most heinous crime of genocide in human history and is being slaughtered daily, vein to vein, amidst shameful Arab and Islamic international silence. This silence has encouraged the entity to trample on all human values and international laws and commit the most heinous crimes that are shameful to humanity and will remain a stain of shame on the foreheads of all those who colluded with or betrayed Gaza. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its call to the international community, particularly the Security Council, to break its silence and condemn the blatant Zionist aggression against Yemen, as well as to end the brutal crimes of genocide and starvation perpetrated by the Zionist entity in Gaza. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Condemns UN Envoy's Statement on Issuing New Currency
Sana'a - Saba: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned the statement issued by the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen regarding the issuance of new currency. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the UN envoy's statement once again demonstrates his absolute bias toward the countries of aggression and their mercenaries, and his departure from the neutral role entrusted to him as a mediator. The statement explained that the Central Bank in Sana'a issued the new currency based on a financial and professional study, considering it a replacement for damaged banknotes, without causing any monetary or economic consequences. It noted that this emergency decision came after negotiations led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this matter reached a dead end due to the obstinacy, stalling, and lack of seriousness by the countries of aggression and the mercenary government — even after ten years of daily suffering endured by the Yemeni people due to the use of the old currency. The statement added that Sana'a had agreed to the proposal to form a joint economic committee to manage national resources and deposit revenues into a special account designated for salary payments. This initiative could have resolved all related issues; however, the committee never materialized due to the other party's lack of cooperation. Yet, the UN envoy did not express concern over this matter. The Ministry stressed that the UN envoy's recent statement is unacceptable, as it aligns with those issued by some of the aggressor countries, notably the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. The envoy was reminded that the countries of aggression and their mercenaries launched a fierce economic war on Yemen alongside their military campaign, taking numerous unilateral economic measures that harmed the Yemeni people — including the printing of billions in unbacked currency and other actions that should have been the focus of criticism by the UN envoy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Sana'a's efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people should be acknowledged and appreciated. It affirmed that the time has come to end the aggression and blockade imposed on the Yemeni people, ease their suffering, and allow them to live in peace. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (Local)
