Former Blue Peter editor Biddy Baxter dies aged 92
She joined the public broadcaster as a radio studio manager in 1955, and was promoted to producing Schools Junior English programmes and Listen With Mother, before making the transition to television.
Baxter took over as editor of Blue Peter in 1965, several years after the programme's launch.
She introduced viewer engagement segments including the national appeals and the famous Blue Peter badge, encouraging children to send letters, pictures and programme ideas.
Baxter served as editor for more than two decades, winning two Bafta awards and receiving 12 nominations.
Upon her departure from the show in 1988, she was awarded the programme's highest honour, a gold Blue Peter Badge.
'I didn't want to do anything other than Blue Peter,' she told The Guardian in 2013.
'I certainly never wanted to be an administrator or in charge of anything.
'It was an absolute dream and I never wanted to do anything else.
'It was a terrific time to be in television.'
She continued to act as a consultant to BBC directors-general John Birt and Sir Michael Checkland after her departure, and received the special award at the Bafta Children's Awards in 2013.

He was the only person who had guessed correctly - but his incorrect place on the map meant he struggled. Last week, the contestants saw their loved ones but had to pretend they did not know them. Jackie's surprise appearance on the BBC show left Daren struggling, as he admitted he'd found it "tough" to not interact with her. "Jackie P is 10 foot from me," he said. "You don't know how hard that is. It was really tough." His co-star Saskia was quick to notice his reaction too, saying: "As soon as I saw Daren shed a tear, I was like 'Jackie P is in here'." The contestants were tasked with matching portraits of each other with photos of their loved ones, as they attempted to guess who was linked to who. The winner would then get to spend some time with their loved one. Unfortunately, Daren failed to win the task, meaning he didn't get to see his wife again.

The BBC broadcaster, 54, sat down with her co-host Jo Whiley for an emotional chat during the latest episode of their podcast Dig It on Tuesday. The duo were discussing how gardening can help people through different struggles in life, when Zoe revealed it became a safe space to remember her late partner Billy, who passed away aged 40 in 2017. The cameraman took his own life after a long battle with depression, with Zoe revealing she'd been 'in shock for two years' following the loss. 'People bought roses for me when I lost Billy and Billy had tattoos up his arm of roses,' Zoe, who also lost her mother last year to cancer, recalled. 'When we lost him a lot of loved ones went and got the rose tattoo for him so people bought me roses to grow for him, which was such a lovely thing. 'And we've talked about, you know, lost loved ones and how wonderful it is when these plants come to life and you know they are always with you. The radio presenter continued: 'So that was where it started and I love that garden, it just became a place for me to take time at the end of the day and be able to breath in and breath out. 'And then you learn how wonderful is to grow something yourself. 'I realised how good it was for me and how much I loved it,' she added fondly. In May, Zoe paid tribute to Billy as she marked eight years since his tragic death. It has been a turbulent time for the radio host, who lost her mother in April last year following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Following the death of her mother, Zoe decided to step away from her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show to spend more time with her family. Zoe also took time away from her show, which was the Saturday afternoon slot at the time, when Billy passed away. Alongside a picture of Billy on his motorbike wearing a pair of shades, she wrote at the time: '8 years forever in our hearts Billface #mateswithyates.' Zoe's 15-year-old daughter Nelly replied in the comments she 'missed him every day', while also sharing her own tribute online. Nelly posted a picture of Billy on her Instagram Story and wrote: '8 years'. Zoe received supportive messages from other friends, including presenter Gaby Roslin who shared a white heart underneath the post. Other comments said 'big love' and 'much love' as friends sent well wishes to the star. Last year to commemorate the occasion, Zoe shared a selfie of Billy and wrote: '7 years. Kisses in the sky.' In an emotional interview on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs in February 2020, Zoe spoke of Billy's death and the grief she endured after he took his own life. Zoe discussed the cameraman's struggle with mental health and revealed that Billy lived with depression for most of his life. BBC MasterChef fans demand contestant is 'disqualified' after major error
MasterChef viewers were left fuming after a contestant made a huge error during a taste test with judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode - and they demanded he be disqualified BBC audiences called for a contestant's immediate removal from MasterChef following a catastrophic error during judging. The remaining six contenders - Naomi, Martin, Joy, Michael, Reuben and Victoria - faced the challenge of impressing Gregg Wallace and John Torode with their "basic to brilliant" creations. Contestants were instructed to transform everyday home cooking into something "extraordinary". IT project manager Reuben chose to present traditional beef and pork mince meatballs alongside handmade pappardelle pasta in tomato sauce. Catastrophe unfolded when Gregg sliced into the meatballs, revealing they remained completely raw inside, reports the Express. Despite compliments for his pasta and sauce, the judges didn't mince their words about the glaring issue. Gregg declared: "Big issue with the meatballs," whilst John stated: "I cannot ignore the fact that you've got meatballs that aren't cooked all the way through." A dejected Reuben confessed: "I'm feeling deflated. After all, they weren't cooked all the way through, so I can forgive them for not wanting to eat them." Viewers immediately flooded social media, demanding his elimination for the dangerous mistake. One viewer said: "Undercooked meatballs should be instant disqualification." Another questioned sarcastically: "Were they cooked with a blowtorch?" A third declared angrily: "Sorry, but that's a major schoolboy error at the stage he should absolutely be disqualified. Shame." This will be the last series for Gregg Wallace and John Torode, with both the BBC stars being axed. Gregg was axed from the show after law firm Lewis Silkin upheld 45 out of 85 complaints against Wallace of inappropriate behaviour. While the 60-year-old has admitted using inappropriate language at times, he denies the more serious allegations. John did not have his contract renewed with Banijay UK - who make MasterChef - after he was alleged to have used racist language amid an investigation into his former co-star's behaviour. He claimed he had no memory of making the comment and denies it ever happened. The BBC came under fire for their decision to air this new series featuring both Gregg and John. They issued a statement, which read:"After careful consideration and consultation with the contestants, we have decided to broadcast the amateur series of MasterChef on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 6 August. MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the amateur chefs taking part. The focus of it has always been their skill and their journey. "This has not been an easy decision in the circumstances and we appreciate not everyone will agree with it. In showing the series, which was filmed last year, it in no way diminishes our view of the seriousness of the upheld findings against both presenters. We have been very clear on the standards of behaviour that we expect of those who work at the BBC or on shows made for the BBC."
