CM has lost control of govt depts, should resign: Ashu

Ludhiana: Congress bypoll candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu claimed that chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had lost control of government departments and should resign. Reacting to allegations of him having arranged the Vigilance summons himself using "his friend," VB SSP Jagatpreet Singh, to gain sympathy, Ashu said, "If that is really true, then don't you think Bhagwant Mann, who is the chief minister and heads the home and Vigilance departments, deserves to resign as he has no control over his own departments?"
He added, "Right now the AAP candidate is in third place, and you never know, his fortunes may dip further to fourth place."
He also claimed that the AAP candidate confided to his close aides that he had taken an unnecessary plunge into electoral politics.
To a question that CM Mann justified the appointment of outsiders at various positions in the Punjab government by saying that talented people from one place can be posted at other places, Ashu asked the CM, "Tell us whether there was ever any appointment of any Punjabi from Punjab in Delhi during the 15 years of AAP rule there."
Accusing AAP of exploiting resources of Punjab, Ashu equated the situation with the plunder unleashed during the invasion by Ahmad Shah Abdali. "Their only aim and purpose today is to loot and rob as much as they can, knowing well that their time is up but let it be clear to them that they will be held accountable for each and every penny they looted and robbed from Punjab," he said.
Ashu also accused the AAP government of framing rivals. "You implicated people like me in false cases. Just remember that the cycle of justice does take a full turn and everybody will be held accountable," he asserted.
Asked to comment on AAP and BJP candidates, Ashu said, "It is for the people of Ludhiana to decide and judge, and I leave it to their judgement by presenting my case in front of them."

Haryana: Chargesheet filed against Goldy Brar, 4 others in Gurugram grenade attacks case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges in court against Canada-based gangster-terrorist Satwinder Singh alias Goldy Brar and four others for orchestrating grenade attacks on two Gurugram clubs in December, the agency announced on Saturday. The December 10, 2024 attacks targeted Warehouse Club and Human Club in Sector 29, with investigators linking the violence to a broader conspiracy by the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) to spread communal disharmony across Haryana. The chargesheet names Sachin Taliyan, Ankit, Bhawish and US-based Randeep Singh alongside Brar. All accused except Brar and Randeep Singh have been arrested. The NIA investigations revealed that Brar, a designated terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, masterminded the conspiracy from his base in Brampton, Canada. The agency said the terror syndicate actively extorts money, raises funds, procures explosives and weapons, and intimidates civilians to threaten national security. Brar, a close associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, faces multiple terror cases. The NIA has already charge-sheeted him for the December 2023 murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, president of the Hindu right-wing Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, in Jaipur. He is also wanted for orchestrating the May 29, 2022 assassination of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Brar was designated a terrorist under UAPA in January 2024. From Canada, Brar allegedly supervises Bishnoi gang operations whilst assisting pro-Khalistan outfits including BKI in weapons smuggling, drug trafficking and targeted killings, the agency stated. How Ggm blasts are linked to Chandigarh A web of inter-state criminal links has emerged in the investigation into the Gurugram bar blasts, with UT police uncovering key connections to Chandigarh and Haryana's Hisar district. Two accused, Ajit and Vinay, played a direct role in the attacks carried out at two popular Sector 26 bars, acting on the instructions of gangster Randeep Malik. Ajit and Vinay, both Hisar natives, had allegedly delivered a bomb to a person for the Gurugram blasts and were arrested by Chandigarh police after a brief encounter in Hisar on November 29 last year. The duo was involved in hurling bombs at Seville Bar Lounge—owned by rapper Badshah—and De'Orra Dance Bar in Sector 26, Chandigarh, between 3:15am and 3:30am on November 26. Investigations revealed that gangster Randeep Malik, a Jind native now based in the USA, orchestrated the blasts. Malik directed the accused to collect explosives in Karnal and a pistol from Sahil, a murder accused lodged in Jind jail. The handover took place near Rohtak. According to Chandigarh police, Malik, previously booked in 2011 for assault and intimidation, recruits youth from Hisar and Bhiwani into crime. He advised the accused to turn off their phones and escape to Hisar and then Rajasthan after the blasts in Chandigarh. Malik coordinated the attack with gangster Goldy Brar, whose approval allegedly preceded the blasts, the cops said.

After Congress' Mhetre, more opposition leaders cross over to Shiv Sena
MUMBAI: Days after former minister and senior Congress leader from Solapur Siddharam Mhetre joined the Shiv Sena led by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, another once-Congress leader from Ahilyanagar joined Shinde's party on Saturday. Former MLA Bhanudas Murkute was inducted into the Sena on Saturday along with other leaders from various other opposition parties. Murkute, 84, who has been in various parties, including the Congress in the 1980s and '90s, Janata Dal, undivided NCP and Bharat Rashtra Samithi, joined the Sena with his family members and followers. The three-term MLA from Shrirampur has been in politics for over four decades though, according to the observers from Ahilyanagar, his political strength has waned over the last few years. Murkute was arrested in October last year on allegations of sexual assault. Former deputy chairman of the Shrirampur municipal council and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Chhallare was another key leader from Ahilyanagar to join the Shinde-led Sena. Shinde said that Murkute's joining his party would help it in winning big in the forthcoming local body polls. 'Bhanudas Murkute has joined the Sena with his robust team of supporters from Shrirampur,' he said. 'He has come to us with a belief in the Mahayuti government's development of Maharashtra. The induction has strengthened our party in Ahilyanagar and this will reflect in the local body polls, which are considered to be the elections of party workers.' Murkute said that he and his supporters would work in the interest of the party, follow the ideology of Bal Thackeray and ensure success in the local body polls. The former MLA leads the Ashok Cooperative Sugar Factory and was the director of the district cooperative bank. He enjoys clout in the cooperative sector in the district and the Sena expects to benefit from this clout in the local body polls. Senior Congress leader Siddharam Mhetre joined the Shiv Sena in Solapur on Thursday. Mhetre was a minister of state during the tenure of once of the Congress-NCP governments, and has a following in the Lingayat community which is dominant in Akkalkot constituency in Solapur. Mhetre said that he was joining the Sena in the expectation of getting funds for the irrigation projects in his constituency. In March this year, a former Congress leader from Kasba in Pune joined the Shiv Sena months after being defeated in the Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate. Shinde said that the induction of all these leaders had helped the Shiv Sena strengthen its base in their respective districts prior to the local body polls. The latter are expected to be held in October or November this year.
