Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton had to endure an eccentric spin on the tracks of Spa-Francorchamps during the sprint qualifying of the Belgian Grand Prix on Friday.
The Ferrari driver's rear axle broke up under braking and was knocked out of the qualifying due to the same, while teammate Charles Leclerc qualified fourth.
'I spun. The first time, I think, in my career," that he had spun in that way.
'There's not really a lot to say," he added. 'Obviously, I'm massively frustrated.
'A lot of work has gone in and to be there is not really great. So hopefully tomorrow will be better."
Hamilton had run wide at Stavelot early in the first round of sprint qualifications before his spin at the chicane as he ended up 18th in the 20-man grid.
'I don't think there's anyone more surprised at that than Lewis Hamilton," said former driver and commentator Martin Brundle as he called the spin.
The Ferrari Trap?
The Brit, who made the switch to the Prancing Horse this season is yet to clinch a title in the fabled red of the Italian manufacturer and had also opined that he doesn't want to suffer the plight of the iconic Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel during their testing time at Ferrari.
Hamilton stands sixth in the championship table with 103 points up until this point in the ongoing campaign, as McLaren's Oscar Piatsri tops the table with teammate Lando Norris hot on his heels in second.

Divya Deshmukh Creates History, Becomes 1st Chess Player In The World To...

Last Updated: India's 19-year-old Chess Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh became the first teenager to win the FIDE Women's World Cup, defeating Koneru Humpy 1.5-0.5 in tiebreaks. India's 19-year-old Chess Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh became the first-ever teenager to win the FIDE Women's World Cup by beating compatriot Koneru Humpy in tiebreaks on Monday (July 28). Divya defeated Humpy 1.5-0.5. The first Rapid game ended in a draw, and Divya secured a brilliant win with the Black pieces to win the match. She's also the first Indian to win the tournament. The tournament began in 2021 and the first title was clinched by Russia's Alexandra Kosteniuk, who was 37 years old at the time. The runner-up of the 2021 edition, Aleksandra Goryachkina, also from Russia, clinched the second season in 2023 but she, too, was 24 years old at the time of winning. 'Congratulations to @Divyadeshmukh05 on winning the World Cup. Becoming GM and a spot in the candidates. Amazing battle of nerves. @humpy_koneru played a very good event and showed a commendable fighting spirit . The great champion she is! It was a great celebration of Indian chess, particularly Women's chess," Viswanathan Anand wrote on X. Divya Deshmukh takes home GM title, $50,000 She joins her opponent on the day, Humpy, Dronavalli Harika, and R Vaishali. Divya's path to becoming a Grandmaster was not easy and took an atypical route, too. Usually, becoming a GM requires a player to win three GM norms and achieve a Standard (Classical) FIDE rating of 2500 or above. However, players can also do it by winning certain elite competitions, including the FIDE Women's World Cup. 'I need time to process it (win). I think it was fate, me getting the Grandmaster title this way because before this (tournament) I didn't even have one (GM) norm, and now I am the Grandmaster," she said after the match. An emotional Deshmukh couldn't hold back her tears following the victory against an opponent twice her age. Deshmukh also secured a spot in next year's Candidates tournament, which will decide who will take on world champion Ju Wenjun of China in the Women's World Championship. view comments First Published: July 28, 2025, 16:44 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Vindu Dara Singh Slams Pakistan For Fostering Terrorism: ‘Shame On Those People'

Vindu Dara Singh spoke about India's match against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup. He also slammed Pakistan for harbouring terrorists on its soil. Ever since the deadly attack in Pahalgam, India's relations with Pakistan have deteriorated. Amid the ongoing tensions between the two countries, Son of Sardaar 2 actor Vindu Dara Singh spoke strongly against Pakistan's role in fostering terrorism. The 61-year-old actor also weighed in on the ongoing debate following the announcement of the Asia Cup fixture between the two nations. In the Asia Cup 2025, India is placed in Group A, alongside Pakistan. The two countries will face off against each other on September 14. Singh shared that sports should bring people together. 'We all know whatever has been going on, but sports is a different field," Vindu told ANI. Vindu Dara Singh On Pakistan The actor further urged Pakistan to stop harbouring terrorist groups on their soil as it would ultimately lead to their global isolation. He added, 'Pakistan needs to realise that they are losing out by doing wrong to India… We want peace, but they need to initiate this time. They are the ones who cause the problem. India has never attacked any country first. Shame on those people in Pakistan who support terrorism." Vindu's comment came just days after the announcement of the Asia Cup 2025 fixture between India and Pakistan. The tournament, organised by the Asian Cricket Council, is scheduled to take place from September 9 to September 25 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Initially, India was supposed to host the tournament. But the recent military tensions between the countries following the deadly attack in Pahalgam has forced the authorities to organise the tournament at a neutral venue, the UAE. The terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22 claimed the lives of 26 people. Post the attack, India launched a series of precision strikes under Operation Sindoor in May to destroy terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The two countries were involved in a military conflict before a ceasefire was announced on May 10. What's Vindu Dara Singh's Next Project? The actor is set to appear in the comedy film Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan and Sanjay Mishra. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film is set to be released theatrically on August 1. The movie will also feature Mukul Dev posthumously. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
