Ohio State basketball guard Bruce Thornton discusses why he returned to Buckeyes

Loyalty can be a hard thing to come by in the day and age of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) and the transfer portal. You can't blame college players for looking out for themselves, but it's refreshing when a guy makes a decision based on a commitment and follows through on what he started.
That's where Ohio State guard Bruce Thornton comes in. During his three years in Columbus, the Buckeyes have yet to reach the NCAA Tournament. The program has been in purgatory, trying to get back to where it once was, and he's thought to be a key part of that. It has to be disappointing to not experience some of the things Thornton thought he would when he committed to play on the banks of the Olentangy, so nobody could really blame him if he decided to move on to another program for his last season in college.
That's not what happened, though. Instead, Thornton decided to come back to Columbus for his last season to help lead the team to where he thinks it can go. When asked by Kellyanne Stitts of the ABC affiliate in Columbus, WSYX, on what went into his decision to return to Ohio State, Thornton pointed to unfinished business.
"I've always been a loyal guy," Thornton said. "Me being here just sticking it out just showing love back to Ohio State because they've been nothing but great to me this whole time since I've been here throughout the whole process, good, bad and ugly, so it just felt right to do it one more time.
Thornton was then asked about all of the new guys on the team this season and how things are coming together, and he felt quite optimistic.
"We have a lot of new guys this year, and I'm very excited," said Thornton. "I feel like our chemistry and our camaraderie together to try to build each and every day the best way we can each and every day so that we can be the best team we can possibly be."
But there always has to be improvement to continue to move things forward, so the All-Big Ten performer was then asked what he's looking for in his game coming into the season.
"I'm just trying to win games. I don't care what else I do, just make sure I win games and put a banner up in our practice gym, that's it."
There seems to be more optimism coming out of the program this year. Something feels a little different, but of course, things have to happen on the court for the program to start to get back to one of the best in the Big Ten, and by extension, the country.

Elite 2026 4-star Edge places Texas A&M in his final 3 ahead of July 11 commitment

Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is anticipating several key commitments in the coming days/weeks, including four-star wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster and four-star linebacker Tank King, who are set to announce on Friday. Right now, Feaster is predicted to land with USC, but the Aggies are still in the running, while King is heavily favored to land in College Station. Defensively, ten of the program's 22 2026 commitments are either cornerbacks, edge rushers, linebackers, or defensive linemen, and on Thursday, one of the top edge prospects, Duncanville (TX) four-star KJ Ford, who recently took an official visit to Texas A&M on June 13, has announced his commitment date and narrowed down his options, which now includes the Aggies. Ford will choose between Ohio State, Florida, and Texas A&M on Friday, July 11, which is significant news for Elko and his staff, who were not considered finalists before today. Elko and defensive line coaches Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie have earned commitments from three edge rushers, including five-star Tristian Givens. At the same time, they have all shut down their recruitment and are locked in with the program ahead of Early Signing Day. Ford has been one of the most productive defenders in the Lone Star State over the past two seasons, including 57 tackles, seven sacks, 16 tackles for loss, and 15 hurries during his 2024 junior season. According to 247Sports recruiting insider Mike Roach, Texas A&M and Ohio State look like the clear front-runners to make some noise heading into next week. "Texas A&M and Ohio State both have been dangerous factors in this recruitment for quite some time as well, and it could come down to the wire for his decision." According to 247Sports, Ford is currently positioned as the 98th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 11th-ranked edge, and the 16th-ranked prospect in Texas. Urban Meyer's admission on the three best teams in college football comes with some bad news for the Ohio State Buckeyes

Urban Meyer's admission on the three best teams in college football comes with some bad news for the Ohio State Buckeyes originally appeared on A to Z Sports. The Ohio State Buckeyes suffered two losses last year, including a heartbreaker to Michigan—for the fourth straight time. Despite that setback, Ohio State went on to win a national championship, capping off one of the most remarkable postseason runs college football has ever seen. As the 2025 season approaches, however, none of that matters. It's a clean slate, and this current Ohio State team hasn't earned anything yet. Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer believes the Buckeyes are among the top teams heading into the 2025 season. However, two other programs he's high on are also on Ohio State's schedule. Penn State returns a wealth of talent from last season, even with the departure of star pass rusher Abdul Carter. Meyer sees the Nittany Lions as one of the top contenders, alongside the Texas Longhorns and Buckeyes. 'Watch out for Penn State, man. If Drew Allar can really improve as a quarterback, I agree with you—I think they have the best backfield, I don't think it's close, in the country,' Meyer said recently. 'They've got an offensive line that they cannot wait to get on the field. So yeah, I think Penn State, Texas, and Ohio State are the three most talented [teams].' View the to see embedded media. Having a returning quarterback with multiple years in the system is a huge advantage for Penn State. Ohio State will host the Nittany Lions on November 1—a key matchup likely to help determine the Big Ten title game. It will also mark a return to Columbus for Penn State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who previously served in the same role for the Buckeyes. Ohio State opens the season against Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns in a high-stakes rematch of last season's Cotton Bowl. It's shaping up to be one of the biggest season openers in recent memory, possibly featuring the top two teams in the country. With both programs boasting stacked rosters, there's a chance this won't be the only time they meet in 2025. Meyer's top three—Ohio State, Texas, and Penn State—are all likely to be in the playoff conversation by season's end. In what order? That remains to be the to see embedded media. Where did Kaidon Salter rank in USA TODAY Sports Big 12 quarterback rankings?

Colorado football is entering the 2025 season without Shedeur Sanders entrenched as the starting quarterback. While that might be a scary proposition for CU fans, Deion Sanders has brought in reinforcements. Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter will battle five-star freshman Julian Lewis for the starting job, and after spring performances, the competition seems neck and neck. Salter, Conference USA MVP in 2023, seems like the likely Week 1 starter, but it is still up in the air at this point. USA TODAY Sports' Jordan Mendoza ranked Salter as the tenth-best quarterback in his offseason Big 12 quarterback power rankings. Salter had a down season in 2024 compared to his monster 2023 year, throwing for only 1,886 yards with 22 total touchdowns. If Salter can regain his MVP form that saw him put up 44 total touchdowns, he would immediately become one of the league's top signal-callers. Mendoza explained Salter's No. 10 ranking, noting his statistical decline last season as a key factor in the decision. Salter looks to be Deion Sanders' first quarterback at Colorado that isn't his son, with the Liberty transfer appearing to be ahead of freshman Julian Lewis. Salters is capable of manning a high-potent numbers dipped signifcantly in 2024, but he can turn things around with weapons at his disposal this year. Arizona State's Sam Leavitt was ranked No. 1, followed by Baylor's Sawyer Robertson, TCU's Josh Hoover and Iowa State's Rocco Becht, who round out the top 4. All four top quarterbacks were starters for their current team's last season. Other quarterbacks around Salter were Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby (No. 9), Arizona's Noah Fifita (No. 8) and Utah's Devon Dampier (No. 11). Salter can be a top-5 quarterback in the Big 12; he has to prove he can do it with a new team and against better competition. In our Big 12 quarterback room rankings, Salter and the Buffaloes came in at No. 9. Colorado opens the season in Boulder against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Aug. 29.
