3 arrested in connection to SoHo DUI crash: Tampa police
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Three people were arrested after an alleged DUI driver struck a pedestrian in Tampa's SoHo neighborhood early Monday morning, leaving a man with serious injuries.
Tampa police said the driver, Richard Meadows III, 25, and two of his friends were arrested in connection to the crash, which happened at around 2:50 a.m. at South Howard Avenue and West Azeele Street.

Meadows' Toyota Camry struck a pedestrian, an unnamed 27-year-old man who was standing behind a parked car. The impact severed one of his legs below the knee and heavily damaged the other car.
The pedestrian remained in critical, but stable, condition on Tuesday.
Police said Meadows showed 'clear signs of impairment' and took him into custody following a DUI investigation. Some of his friends became agitated to the point where it interfered with officers' investigative efforts.
Two men, identified as Julian Jackson, 29, and Rashon Goode, 28, were also arrested. Police said Jackson punched both Meadows and an officer during a police interview. Goode was accused of grabbing an officer's vest during Meadows' arrest.
Meadows was charged with DUI with serious bodily injury. Jackson was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and battery. Goode was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
The three men were taken to the Orient Road Jail.

Pekin man sentenced to 10 years for soliciting minor online
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A federal judge in Peoria handed down a 10-year prison term for a Pekin man accused of attempting to entice a minor for sexual purposes. In addition, Joseph D. Perkins, 32, was also ordered by U.S. District Judge Michael Mihm to register as a sex offender. Mihm also imposed a seven-year term of supervised release, the federal version of probation, when Perkins finishes his prison term. Perkins was found guilty at an April 2025 jury trial where prosecutors presented evidence that from January 2023 to March 2024, he engaged in online chats with a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl. In reality, it was an undercover officer. During that time frame, he repeatedly asked the 'girl' for nude photos and tried to meet up her with to engage in sexual activity. When they finally agreed to meet in March 2204, he was arrested by federal agents. He has been in custody of the U.S. marshals ever since. Under federal sentencing rules, Perkins must serve at least 85% of his prison term. The 10-year sentence is the minimum for the charge of attempted enticement of a minor. Man accused of ‘lewd act' inside business, assaulting owner
WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is facing charges after police say he performed a lewd act at a business and assaulted the owner who tried to stop him. Fort Myers man changes plea during trial for deadly crash, sentenced to prison
A Fort Myers man accused of leaving a fatal pedestrian crash more than a year ago changed his plea on the third day of his trial. Wilson Fernando Maliza Guanulema, 48, faced charges of leaving an accident scene involving death and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. He pleaded no contest on Aug. 20. Court documents identified the victim as Felipe Martinez Mendoza, 52. He is one of 129 road fatalities stemming from Lee County crashes in 2024. According to the troopers, Maliza Guanulema's Toyota Camry struck Martinez Mendoza at Jan. 6, 2024, on Palm Beach Boulevard at Fairfax Drive, in Tice, and then fled. Martinez Mendoza, who tried to cross Palm Beach Boulevard, died on scene. During their search for Maliza Guanulema's car, according to court documents, authorities noted the accused driver removed a series of stickers by the time they found the car at Rapid Service Body Shop, 1028 S.E. 12th Ave., in Cape Coral. The same day troopers released surveillance footage they believed was connected to the accident, they impounded the car. When troopers spoke with Maliza Guanulema's wife, his arrest affidavit says, she broke down into tears, said that her husband is a "good guy" and told troopers she did not know what to do. Judge says no: Cape Coral man arrested 8 years after fatal crash to remain jailed without bond She wife told troopers he called her the day of the crash and said he had just hit someone and that he was scared. According to his wife, after the impact, Maliza Guanulema braked, checked his right-side mirror and saw Martinez Mendoza getting back up. When troopers spoke with Martinez Mendoza, he said it rained earlier that day and that he saw a shadow along the road before he felt an impact. After the impact, the accused driver told troopers he saw a "coffee color." Martinez Mendoza said he removed the stickers from the car he was driving because he feared the mechanics would not return them. During his trial, on Aug. 20, Martinez Mendoza pleaded no contest to the charges and Lee County Judge Maria Gonzalez sentenced him to four years in prison.
