Congress leaders unite at Rajesh Pilot memorial event in Rajasthan
The ceremony was held at the memorial site in Bhandana, where Mr. Rajesh Pilot lost his life in a road accident in 2000. A five-time MP from Dausa between 1984 and 1999, Mr. Pilot is widely remembered in the region as a champion of farmers' welfare and grassroots development.
Congress leaders from Delhi and Rajasthan were in attendance, including nine sitting Members of Parliament, 47 out of the Congress's 66 MLAs in the State Assembly, 83 former Ministers, MPs and MLAs, and 46 functionaries of the party's various frontal organisations. The observance featured an all-religion prayer, a two-minute silence, devotional song renditions, and an exhibition showcasing Mr. Pilot's photographs, personal belongings, and milestones from his career as an Indian Air Force fighter pilot and parliamentarian.
Veteran leader and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot - who has had a strained relationship with Mr. Sachin Pilot since the political crisis of 2020 - was among the most notable attendees. Mr. Pilot had personally visited Mr. Gehlot's residence in Jaipur last week to extend an invitation, signalling a thaw in relations.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Gehlot said, 'We were never far apart… We have always been together and we share a lot of affection. It is you [media] who think that there is distance between us.' He also paid tribute to the late leader, stating, 'He left us too soon and we still remember him. Rajesh Ji and I were together as MPs for 18 years.'
Though the organisers sought to maintain a non-political tone, party workers raised slogans for Mr. Sachin Pilot and his late father during the screening of a short film highlighting the latter's personal and political journey. 'Rajesh Pilot's truth, dedication, hard work and his smiling face will continue to inspire us,' Mr. Pilot said. 'He proved that a person could stay untainted even while sitting on high positions.'
Among the prominent leaders present were AICC State in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully, Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib, All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba, and National Students' Union of India president Varun Choudhary.

Modi's initiative sped up metro yellow line: Vijayendra
Bengaluru, Aug 10 (UNI) Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa today credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal initiative and interest for the rapid progress of the metro yellow line project, which will benefit over eight lakh residents in Bengaluru's southern districts, while accusing the Congress of trying to claim credit despite poor infrastructure under its watch. Speaking to reporters here, he said the project gathered pace when the BJP was in power in the state, adding that it is the duty of every state government to execute such works, and 'nobody can claim exclusive credit.' 'At the end of the day, people are happy,' he remarked. Vijayendra alleged that the Congress is 'always in the forefront to take credit' even as Bengaluru struggles with pothole-ridden roads. 'The inauguration of the yellow line will greatly benefit commuters, especially the IT corridor, which is very important,' he said. The long-awaited yellow line will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister later today, along with the flagging off of the Vande Bharat Express between Bengaluru and Belagavi. Vijayendra said not only Bengaluru but the entire state was eagerly awaiting Modi's visit, calling it a 'dream come true' for lakhs of residents. UNI BDN AAB

‘Hiding EC allegations?': Congress MP questions Army's Op Sindoor statement 'timing'; targets Centre
NEW DELHI: Congress MP Imran Masood on Sunday questioned the timing of remarks made by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh on Operation Sindoor , suggesting they could be aimed at diverting attention from allegations against the Election Commission. Speaking in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Masood told ANI, 'When Operation Sindoor was being discussed in the Parliament, we wanted PM Modi to share the details, but then he didn't say anything. I don't understand the timing of the statement... Is this being said to shift the narrative and hide the allegations against the Election Commission? We have complete confidence in our army. Due to their courage and bravery, we ask: despite possessing enough courage to easily take PoK, why can't they accomplish this?' — ANI (@ANI) Air Chief Marshal Singh on Saturday had revealed that India downed at least five Pakistani fighter jets and one large aircraft — potentially an ELINT or AEW&C — during Operation Sindoor, calling it 'the largest ever recorded surface-to-air kill that we can talk about'. He detailed multiple strikes on command centres, radars, and hangars in Pakistan, crediting the 'political will' of the Modi government for giving the armed forces 'full freedom to plan and execute' the mission without restrictions. The IAF chief's remarks have sparked political debate. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh questioned why Prime Minister Modi 'suddenly stopped Operation Sindoor' on the evening of May 10, alleging he had done so 'under pressure'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This new air conditioner cools down a room in just seconds News of the Discovery Undo Pawan Khera also pressed the PM to clarify whether US President Donald Trump's ceasefire claims were untrue. The BJP, however, used Singh's comments to counter Congress's earlier claims that the government had 'tied the hands' of IAF pilots. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Air Chief Marshal's account 'debunked comprehensively' what he called a 'Pakistan-originated disinformation campaign'. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly lying and urged him to 'maintain the decorum of Parliament'. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing over 100 militants. India also repelled Pakistani retaliation and struck its airbases. Singh underscored that the success of the mission came from synergy between the three services and support from the political leadership, while stressing the need for indigenisation and joint capability development for future conflicts.
