Refillable beauty is the future. Here are my top picks for a sustainable routine, from skincare to make-up

From empty mascara to shampoo bottles, beauty products create a lot of plastic waste. Switching to refillables is a fairly effortless way to cut down on single-use products that might otherwise end up in landfill.

The beauty industry is coming under increasing pressure to consider its vast environmental footprint and contribution to global plastic waste. According to the British Beauty Council, 95% of cosmetic packaging is thrown away, and of the 14% of beauty products we recycle, only about 9% can actually be processed. The rest ends up in landfill, taking up to 450 years to break down. And if the planet-saving draw isn't enough, then perhaps the financial gains might sway you; refilling your beauty products can save you some serious cash, too.
Although not all beauty products are refillable, thankfully plenty are. These are some of my favourite beauty products – I've used and loved them all – that also have refills. Many are sustainability (and money-saving) gamechangers – it's a win-win-win.
Living Proof Full shampoo, 236ml

If your hair is a tad on the limp side like mine, keep a stash of this sulphate-free volumising shampoo on hand. It's enriched with peptides from amaranth to bulk up the hair fibres, and antioxidants to protect it from environmental damage. Use the giant 1 litre pouch to top up your travel size and regular bottle multiple times.

We're used to the spray-and-go approach to dry shampoo, but this handbag-size brush targets greasy spots directly. It's ideal for fringes and it's laced with a beautifully fresh scent. Washing the brush is easy, and when it runs out you simply buy the refill sachets.
Kérastase Elixir Ultime L'huile Originale hair oil, 75ml
£58 at Kérastase£58 at SephoraKérastase Elixir Ultime L'Huile Originale refill, 75ml
£42.80 at Boots£42.80 at Look Fantastic
For added shine, softness and heat protection of up to 230C (446F), this camellia-infused hair oil is my go-to. It's the perfect finishing oil – even on fine hair – because it isn't greasy at all, as it was developed to work on all hair types.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar purifying cleansing gel, 400ml
£23.99 at Superdrug£24.50 at BootsLa Roche-Posay Effaclar purifying cleansing gel refill, 400ml
£18.99 at Superdrug£19.50 at Boots
Formulated for oily and blemish-prone skin, this fresh foaming gel gives a gentle cleanse without stripping the skin's delicate barrier. The added zinc PCA helps to reduce excess oil and gently dissolves dead skin cells to keep pores unblocked – all without irritating the skin. This refill saves you £5 and uses 75% less plastic than the original.
Tatcha The Water Cream, 50ml
£67 at Sephora£67 at Space NKTatcha The Water Cream refill, 50ml
£58 at Sephora£58 at Space NK
This much-loved Japanese skincare brand has several refills for its cult creams. If you're looking for a hydrating, light moisturiser then the Water Cream is my first choice; it has an ultra-light gel-like texture, feels cooling on the skin and contains fermented Japanese superfoods for a mega-dose of antioxidants. The refill uses 57% less plastic than its original packaging.
Skin Rocks The Antioxidant, 30ml
£70 at Skin Rocks£70 at Space NKSkin Rocks The Antioxidant refill, 30ml
£60 at Skin Rocks£60 at Space NK
This mega antioxidant serum is laden with vitamin C, brightening peptides and a slew of well-chosen ingredients designed to boost the efficacy of all of the above. It's the smart choice if you want a do-it-all serum that covers all your skincare needs – and then some. You'll save £10 with the refill: simply unscrew the outer glass bottle, remove the lid, untwist the existing inner refill from the pump and replace it with a new one.
Lisa Eldridge Rouge Experience lipstick, 3.5g

£25 at Space NK£25 at Selfridges
This refillable lipstick is unbeatable. Not only is it beautiful (and inspired by the vintage lipsticks makeup artist Lisa collects) but it's a real innovation. Most lipstick refills contain plastic and other hard-to-recycle elements, but this one has a 100% aluminium refill that is infinitely recyclable. The shades are oil-based so aren't drying and have excellent staying power (mine even lasted through at least five spicy margs).
Victoria Beckham Beauty Eye Wardrobe, 7g
£71 at Victoria BeckhamVictoria Beckham Beauty Eye Wardrobe refill, 6.8g
£47 at Victoria Beckham£47 at Selfridges
These sleek palettes have quickly become my daily go-to. They're beautiful, long-lasting shades that take the hassle out of choosing what colours work well together. If you buy an original Eye Wardrobe – the gorgeous tortoiseshell case that houses the shadows – you can switch in the refills whenever you wish to change them.
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish powder, 8g
£39 at Charlotte Tilbury£39 at John LewisCharlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish powder, 8g
£34 at Charlotte Tilbury£34 at John Lewis
If you're looking for a setting powder that isn't cakey or drying, then this could be it. It sets makeup and mattifies, but leaves a slight sheen to the skin so it doesn't look flat or ashy. There are only four shades, but each works for multiple skin tones. A refill saves you £5, and replacing the used powder pan is simple. Take a hairpin or paperclip and push the hole on the back of the compact to pop out the used powder pan, then switch it for your new one and recycle the old.

Fussy natural deodorant case

From £5 at Fussy
Choose your recycled plastic case, and pick from several scents (I'm obsessed with Parma Violets) to create your own bespoke deodorant. The refills are compostable and the deodorant is laden with shea butter and probiotics – and unlike many 'natural' deodorants, it genuinely works.
Estrid The Weightless refillable antiperspirant
From £9.95 at Estrid
For those looking for an aluminium-free deodorant that comes in a spray, your prayers have been answered. Powered by vitamin C-rich noni fruit extract and prebiotics, this spray helps to balance your underarm microbiome, quell any irritation post-shave and is approved for use on sensitive skin. Chanel's existing refillable travel sprays are some of the most beautiful around, but this smaller version, designed to be worn as an accessory on your bag or belt, takes it to the next level. There are lots of benefits to a solid perfume: they're ace for travel, and they often last longer as the balm helps to adhere the scent to the skin for longer. Orphéon nods to nostalgia with warming tonka beans, earthy cedar and sparkling jasmine. The two refills save you £20 and you get two, and you can recycle the empty solid perfume pan when they're all used up.
Penhaligons Halfeti, 100ml
£215 at Penhaligons£215 at Selfridges
Penhaligons offers clever refills on some of its bestselling scents at selected stores across the UK (including London's Regent Street, Liverpool and Glasgow). Take your empty bottle in to refill, join the loyalty programme and you'll get 20% off. As well as the saving, doing this produces 46% less waste compared with buying a new bottle. And if you're looking for scent inspiration, Halfeti is spicy, smoky and woody in the very best way.

This Iconic Benefit Product Just Had An Update – And It's Better Than Ever

Few beauty products enjoy the same level of fame and success as Benefit's Benetint. While there are lots of lip stains available in 2025, from peels to felted markers, it was Benefit's OG product that put the revolutionary long-wear, budge-proof formula on the map in 1976. 49 years later, the San Franciscan brand's first-to-market beauty product shows no sign of waning and it's got the numbers to prove it. Boasting a whopping one billion views on TikTok, one bottle of this blush sold every 11 seconds in 2024 and three million vials sold that year alone. It seems the buzz around the internet's favourite lip-to-cheek multitasker is about to reach fever pitch, as Benefit introduces two new shades into the fold for the first time ever: Raspberry and Dark Cherry, which are on sale right now for £19.10 at Sephora. Cementing its iconic status, the brand has teamed up with Desi Perkins, mega influencer and founder of @deziskin, to create the DEZI X Benetint Dark Cherry Sunglasses and Lip & Cheek Stain Set, which includes a pair of cherry-pink coated Dezi sunglasses, a custom pink case, and a full-size Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain in the new Dark Cherry hue. While the $95 limited edition kit is exclusively available at Sephora USA, the collaboration has already helped to ensure that Dark Cherry is a sell-out success. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, using Dark Cherry The new colour expansion welcomes hues of ruddy brown in Dark Cherry, and berry pink for Raspberry, giving us a whole new way to enjoy the cult classic. Unlike other Benetint iterations like the Floratint and Playtint, the two newcomers share the same well-loved formula as the original, that being a natural-looking flush of long-lasting, non-drying colour that is smudge, transfer, water and humidity-proof. If you're into a monochrome make-up moment (guilty as charged), the multitasker can be swiftly swiped across lips and cheeks for a lightweight sheer look that can be built up all while guaranteeing a believable second-skin finish, thanks to its barely-there watercolour-resembling stain. Jean and Jane Ford, the twin founders of Benefit, actually created the Benefit Benetint as a nipple enhancer for exotic dancers, but almost 50 years on it's the secret to perking up our complexions. A flurry of A-listers including Winona Ryder, Nicole Kidman and even Rachel Zegler are known to love it, the latter of whom used it to create Snow White's classic red-lipped look in the 2025 live-action remake of the Disney classic. Swatches of Benefit's new Benetint in Raspberry (top) and Dark Cherry (bottom) Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'I am quite serious about blush; I often forgo all cheek products (like bronzer and contour) but will never complete my make-up without a stippling of something flesh-toned across my cheeks, nose, lids, temples and chin. I did say serious, didn't I? To feed my addiction while avoiding blush blindness – there's a fine line, I know – I have long held on to clever formulas that lend a breathable, buildable, natural skin finish, and that's where Benefit's original Benetint comes in. I've used it years and was doubtful that the OG stain could get any better, but I'm happy to report I stand corrected. While the original Benetint promises to stain cheeks with a perky rosey red colour that is perfect for summer, the new shades offer deeper, muted hues that I will likely lean on year-round. I've taken to Dark Cherry, a ruddy brown that works beautifully against my medium, olive complexion. It packs all the staying power of the original, meaning one application in the morning is enough to last me through most of the day, but offers up more options that will work across a plethora of skin tones and make-up moods.' 1. Meghan Markle's go-to £26 collagen cream is heading into the Love Island villa

Love Island is getting a new bombshell– Meghan Markle's go-to collagen skin cream It's about to be a long, hot summer– even if the weather doesn't know it yet. Love Island is returning to our screens in a matter of weeks, meaning we're about to be treated to some sizzling new on-screen romances. And while we wait for official word on 2025's line-up (non-celebs, this time), we've been given word about some other bombshells that are definitely hitting the villa. Beauty bombshells. Boots is back as the official Love Island beauty sponsor, and in very interesting news, the in-villa line-up is featuring more niche brands than the usual crowd pleasers like Fenty and No7. This year, Boots will be stocking the Love Island villa with an impressive array of over 130 beauty brands, including exciting new additions like Medicube, GHD, Tocobo and Glow for It. If Medicube rings a bell, it's likely because it has one very famous fan: Meghan Markle. The Duchess listed the brand as a favourite on her ShopMy page, and quickly got picked up by fans and press because of how affordable it is in comparison to the more premium brands she listed alongside it. The exact product she noted as a must-have is Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream, £26 from Boots. Our Mirror beauty editor Laura gave the product a try for herself and says: "This was the product I was most excited to test. I'd heard that Korean brand Medicube had been making waves in the US thanks to its clever textures and formulations, but until recently, it was only available through Amazon. Now, it's finally launched at Boots – and this lightweight gel-cream, packed with hydrolysed collagen, is possibly the standout of the range. "The texture is unlike anything I've ever come across: a vivid red, bouncy formula with a firm, jelly-like consistency that you scoop out with a little spatula. I usually find gel moisturisers don't offer quite enough hydration, sinking into my skin too quickly – but not this one. It left my skin feeling smooth, plumped, and with that coveted 'glass skin' finish, minus any greasiness you sometimes get with ultra-dewy creams. "I used it before bed and genuinely couldn't believe how good my skin looked – almost like it had been coated in a clear film of PVA glue (in the best way possible). A total surprise hit… next time, I'll be saving this glow for the daytime!" Also, it appears ghd is the new hair tool brand gracing the villa's glam room, which is excellent news for the contestants. With new-in tools like the Duet Blow Dry Brush, £389, and Triple Barrel Hair Waver, £159, likely to be on offer, we're going to be seeing a lot in the way of mermaid waves and blow-dried lengths. We'll eagerly await more information from inside the Love Island villa glam room!

Sephora shoppers rave over 'heavenly' cherry perfume that's great for summer "This fragrance is heavenly. Just the right amount of cherry. The longevity and projection are perfection. I cannot wait to try more of The 7 Virtues." Sephora shoppers rave over 'heavenly' cherry perfume that's great for summer (Image: Getty ) Sephora shoppers are raving over a 'heavenly' cherry perfume that rivals a Tom Ford number worth over £200 more. Cherry Ambition by The 7 Virtues costs £85 for a 50ml bottle and has hundreds of five-star reviews. It opens up with a bright cherry note alongside pink pepper, marshmallow and mandarin orange. The heart is made up of a blend of saffron, cherry blossom, osmanthus and orris before settling into frankincense, vanilla, amber, guaiac wood and musk. It's been compared to Tom Ford's Lost Cherry, which typically retails at £290 for a 50ml bottle, as well as Kayali's Lovefest Burning Cherry, which is more affordable at £73 for 50ml but has been dubbed too rich by some shoppers. One shopper said: "I was worried it would smell too smoky or powdery, as cherry perfumes often do, but the top note is just fresh cherries. I love layering it with a vanilla body spray to get my signature scent." A second penned: "This is definitely one of a go to perfumes. I recently started getting into cherry smells and this one is so good! The notes are a bit off though. I don't get any marshmallow or vanilla in this at all. It's almost like a spicy black cherry smell with a hint of boozy cognac. I love this scent it lasts and lingers. I've gotten so many compliments wearing this perfume!" A third shopper wasn't too impressed, insisting it smells a lot like a more expensive fragrance, writing: "Smells just like Lost Cherry by Tom Ford to me. Nice fragrance but nothing special."
