98.3% of plea received from Corporations, 97.4% of plea received from Municipalities under Mudhalvarin Mugavari resolved, says Tamil Nadu government
The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday listed out various measures undertaken by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department for the welfare of people in the State. An official release said that the allocation of ₹9,011 crore has been made for 71 drinking water projects that would benefit 12.137 million people in four Municipal Corporations, 13 Municipalities, 49 Town Panchayats, and 10,565 rural habitations.
It has allocated ₹1,777 crore for 17 Underground Sewerage Schemes in three Municipal Corporations, eight Municipalities, and six Town Panchayats. It has sanctioned ₹6,655 crore for drinking water works and park development in corporations and municipalities. Under the Kalaignar Urban Development Scheme, ₹5,000 crore has been allocated to Municipalities and Town Panchayats, it said.
Under the 'Namakku Naame' (Our Own Scheme), with an allocation of ₹582 crore and public contribution of ₹183 crore, various development works were underway, it said. Under the Urban Employment Scheme, job identity cards have been provided to 2,04,860 people with an estimated cost of ₹100 crore and 12,71,006 man days generated. Under the Solid Waste Management Action Plan, 42,225 individual household latrines (IHHL), 545 public toilets, 614 urinals, 154 micro composting centers and 561 material recovery facilities have been established.
So far, in Municipalities and Corporations, under AMRUT 2.O, 446 underground sewage works, drinking water works, park development and water body restoration and improvement works have been completed in three phases at an estimated cost of ₹6,655 crore. Under the Smart Cities Mission, 11 Corporations have been developed at an estimated cost of ₹10,639 crore. Under the Infrastructure and Development Fund, 28 new bus stand projects have been approved at a project cost of ₹968 crore, and Trichy, Namakkal Corporations,Sankarankoil, Colachel, Gudalur (Theni), Melur Bus Stand have been completed and is in use. The works of the remaining bus stands are nearing completion, it said.
Under the Kalaignar Urban Development Scheme and Capital grant funds, 28 new bus stands and under the Capital Grant Fund, at an estimated cost of ₹279 crore,out of which three busstand works completed and remaining busstand works were in progress, it said. Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, underground sewerage scheme works are underway in 14 Corporations at an estimated cost of ₹3,360 crore, it said.
'To prevent flood damage in the suburban Municipalities and Corporations of Chennai, stormwater drainage works with a length of 109.094 km have been completed at an estimated cost of ₹270 crore,' it said.A total of 177 new shelters have been constructed and are in use at an estimated cost of ₹97.70 crore under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission. Under the 'Mudhalvarin Mugavari' (Chief Minister's Address) scheme, out of 46,241 petitions received so far in Corporations, 98.3% have been resolved and out of 85,464 petitions received in Municipalities, 97.40% have been resolved, it said.

TN showcases Rs 36,000 crore urban transformation drive as CM Stalin‘s Dravidian model of governance
The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday released a detailed report highlighting its extensive urban development efforts under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's 'Dravidian Model' of governance, stating that the state is witnessing rapid urbanisation through focused and inclusive infrastructure investment. According to the report, over Rs 36,000 crore has been committed to strengthening basic amenities across urban and semi-urban regions. Key among the initiatives is the implementation of 71 major drinking water supply projects at a cost of Rs 9,000 crore, benefiting more than 1.2 crore people across four Municipal Corporations, 13 Municipalities, 49 Town Panchayats, and over 10,000 rural habitations. To improve sanitation infrastructure, Rs 1,777 crore has been allotted for 17 underground sewerage projects, while another Rs 6,655 crore is being invested in the integrated development of water bodies and public parks. Highlighting the emphasis on connectivity, the report said the road infrastructure has seen a major push, with Rs 4,673 crore spent on upgrading over 9,000 km of urban roads, and Rs 3,057 crore sanctioned for 8,065 new roadworks. The government has also constructed 28 new bus stands and approved 99 more, with a total allocation of Rs 1,120 crore. Over 3.65 lakh streetlights and LED lighting systems have been installed across urban areas. Under the Smart Cities Mission, 11 Corporations are undergoing development with a total investment of Rs 10,639 crore. In suburban Chennai, more than 100 km of stormwater drains have been laid to mitigate urban flooding. To boost educational infrastructure, the report said that 1,384 new classrooms have been added in Corporation and Municipal schools, and 100 libraries and knowledge centres are being set up across the state. The Urban Employment Scheme has generated over 12 lakh man-days of work. The report also notes the commissioning of Tamil Nadu's largest desalination plant at Nemmeli, which will provide drinking water to around nine lakh people. In a move towards inclusive governance, new welfare schemes have been introduced to support sanitation workers in becoming entrepreneurs. The government's grievance redressal platforms -- Makkaludan Mudhalvar and Mudhalvarin Mugavari -- have resolved over 98 per cent of citizen petitions, the release added.

Gujarat: CM Patel grants approval for projects worth over Rs. 1,700 cr in six municipal corporations
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 6 (ANI): Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has adopted a significant approach to enhancing urban welfare with better facilities during the Urban Development Year 2025, which the State Government is celebrating. In this regard, the Chief Minister has granted in-principle approval for works worth over Rs. 1700.57 crore in a single day for various development projects in 6 newly formed municipal corporations, 5 municipalities, and the Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Municipal Corporations. During his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated effective and planned urban management with the celebration of Urban Development Year in 2005. Through his foresight, urbanization was embraced as a unique opportunity for development. This vision, coupled with public participation, led to the development of beautiful, clean, and dynamic cities, consequently establishing the state's urban centres as well-planned, developed cities. Inspired by the Prime Minister, the state's two-decade-long successful urban development journey is now being further advanced under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. To guide urban transformation and empower citizens effectively, the year 2025 is being celebrated as the Urban Development Year. On May 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the celebration of this Urban Development Year and gave a vision to make cities dynamic centers of economic activity. To realise that vision, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, gave in-principle approval for works worth over Rs. 1700.57 crore. From the total amount approved by the Chief Minister for development works, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will receive Rs. 546 crore, Gandhinagar Rs. 32 crore, and among the newly formed municipal corporations: Anand Rs. 148 crore, Morbi Rs. 270.08 crore, Surendranagar Rs. 257.60 crore, Nadiad Rs. 71.91 crore, Vapi Rs. 251.91 crore, and Navsari Rs. 90.35 crore. Additionally, Vadnagar municipality will receive Rs. 16.37 crore, Himmatnagar Rs. 7.33 crore, Siddhpur Rs. 3.74 crore, Halvad Rs. 4.02 crore, and Bharuch municipality will receive Rs. 85.52 lakh for development works. The Chief Minister has approved Rs. 676.28 crore for a total of 247 inter-structural facility works in six newly formed municipal corporations, including streetlights, solar facilities, city beautification, development of public gardens, drainage, traffic circles, rainwater harvesting, stormwater drainage lines, city civic centers, fire equipment, etc. Under the Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Sadak Yojana, the Chief Minister has given in-principle approval for works worth Rs. 652.78 crore for road renovation, resurfacing, white topping, and repair of roads wider than 60 feet in Anand, Surendranagar, Vapi, and Morbi municipal corporations, as well as Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar municipal corporations. Furthermore, under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, the Chief Minister has approved works worth Rs. 191.91 crore for essential infrastructure, such as filter plant repairs, roads, gutters, storm drains, and water facilities for the Surendranagar, Vapi, and Anand municipal corporations. He has also approved Rs. 31 crore for the construction of iconic roads in Anand and Surendranagar municipal corporations and sanctioned works worth Rs. 85.52 lakh for standard plot paver block works under the Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khangi Society Jan Bhagidari Yojana) in societies within Bharuch municipality. To provide easy access to drinking water in newly included areas of towns and cities, the Chief Minister has approved a total of Rs. 67.35 crore from the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana for water supply works in Himmatnagar and Siddhpur municipalities and Morbi municipal corporation. In addition, Morbi and Vapi municipal corporations and Halvad municipality have been sanctioned works worth a combined total of Rs. 64.02 crore for works such as drinking water lines, underground gutters, asphalt roads, CC roads, and fire station construction in outgrowth areas. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has stated that the amount allocated for the development of urban welfare works will add new momentum to the urban development of the state in the coming days, enabling citizens to realise the goal of 'earning well - living well' through the planned development of cities and urban areas.
