Ritika Wins Gold As India End Asian U22 Boxing Championships With 13 Medals
The Indian U-22 contingent concluded their campaign with a total of 13 medals, while the U19 group returned home with a total of 14 medals, including 3 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze.
Ritika clinched gold in the women's 80+kg category as India secured an impressive overall fourth place in the Under-22 category of the Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok on Monday.
The Indian U-22 contingent concluded their campaign with a total of 13 medals, while the U-19 group returned home with 14 medals, including three gold, seven silver, and four bronze.
The effort helped the U-19 side to finish overall second in the tournament.
However, the day's sole gold came through Ritika in the women's 80+kg final, where she maintained her composure under pressure to defeat Kazakhstan's Assel Toktassyn.
Facing a strong boxer, Ritika combined caution with aggression to deliver impactful blows, securing India's fourth gold in the event.
In the morning session, Yatri Patel settled for a silver after losing to Khumorabonu Mamajonova of Uzbekistan in the women's 57kg, while Priya's spirited fight against Yu Tian of China in the 60kg final ended in a narrow 2:3 loss.
Later in the day, Neeraj went down against Shavkatjon Boltaev of Uzbekistan in the men's 75kg final.
Subsequently, Ishan Kataria lost to Khalimjon Mamasoliev of Uzbekistan in the 90+kg gold medal clash, as both Indian boxers secured silver.

The government, determined to push the reform through in the ongoing monsoon session, hailed it as a landmark step towards overhauling sports administration in the country. CNN-News18 has learnt that the sports ministry is moving swiftly to frame rules for its implementation. 'Eighty per cent of the work is already done, and the notification should be out in the next couple of months," a senior government source said. Once notified, the National Sports Board (NSB) will be constituted to recognise and regulate national and state-level sports federations. The bill also paves the way for a National Sports Election Panel to ensure fair, dispute-free elections across federations. This panel will be made up of members experienced in conducting federation polls, aiming to avoid legal entanglements that have plagued Indian sports bodies in the past. Athletes, especially women, will be central to decision-making, with mandatory Athletes' Committees in all federations. For the first time, a statutory minimum of four women on every Executive Committee. The bill proposes aligning Indian sports governance with the Olympic and Paralympic Charters, ensuring that the country is better positioned to host major international events, including a potential bid for the 2036 Olympics. India's sports landscape has long been plagued by controversies, from court battles over federation elections to mismanagement and a lack of athlete representation. Currently, more than 350 court cases regarding sports federations are pending, creating serious hurdles in governance and sports promotion.
