BRS MLA Harish praises Telangana Minister Uttam for writing to Centre against Andhra Pradesh's G-B project
HYDERABAD: Congratulating Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy for writing a letter to the Centre, opposing Andhra Pradesh's proposed Banakacherla-Godavari (G-B) project, BRS MLA T Harish Rao on Sunday urged the state government to convene an all-party meeting and a special session of the Assembly to discuss the issue.
The former Irrigation minister also urged the government to take a policy decision on the G-B project.
In an open letter to Uttam, Harish said that it was learnt that the AP government has sent a pre-feasibility report on G-B to the Centre.
While appreciating Uttam for seeking the DPR, he also requested Uttam to demand the Centre to immediately convene an Apex Council meeting. Though 969 tmcft of Godavari water was allocated to Telangana, it could not utilise more than 200 tmcft due to lack of projects. That was why the BRS government conceived major projects like Kaleshwaram and others, he said.
Highlighting some key points in the Godavari Tribunal Award, Harish said that when AP proposed to divert 200 tmcft Godavari water through G-B project, Telangana should get 112.5 tmcft additional water in Krishna river. Due to the construction of Polavaram, Telangana should get an additional 45 tmcft water. With this, Telangana should get an additional 157.50 tmcft in Krishna river, Harish said while asking Uttam to focus on all these issues. 'Take proper steps on G-B project, the BRS will stand by you,' Harish told Uttam.

CM Rangasamy seeks VP's intervention to grant statehood to Puducherry

The territorial Assembly had also adopted resolutions with the unanimous support of all political parties and more importantly the people of Puducherry for statehood, he pointed out in the memorandum. The chief minister emphasised that the elected government of the Union Territory of Puducherry is a limited government, not by the Constitution but by the decades-old law of the Parliament, through the Government of Union Territories Act of 1963 which is still in force. He stated in the memorandum that even though the government is elected democratically with a Council of Ministers and an assembly, it is unable to function and execute various developmental activities quickly because of a lack of powers at the level of the Council of Ministers. He also brought to the notice of the vice president that Puducherry is currently not included in the Finance Commission on the ground, resulting in improper devolution of funds for development. He also pointed out that if statehood is granted to the Union territory about Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 crores under additional devolution of funds as per the existing formula can be expected which will be helpful to take up various infrastructural activities to improve Puducherry as a fast-growing place as a tourism destination. 'With limited powers now we are unable to attract investors for industrial development to generate employment opportunities,' Rangasamy said. He requested the vice president to discuss the granting of statehood whenever possible at higher levels for enhanced tourism and for industrial development. CM: Will release Rs 9k cr under Rythu Bharosa in next 9 days
1 2 Hyderabad: Amid speculation of panchayat elections being held soon, chief minister A Revanth Reddy, with his entire cabinet in attendance, announced disbursal of Rs 9,000 crore under govt's most important welfare programme, Rythu Bharosa, to over 70 lakh farmers in the next nine days, starting Monday. The announcement was made during the 'Rythu Nestham' programme held at the Prof Jayashankar Agriculture University on Monday. The CM ceremoniously initiated the fund transfer by pressing a button at the event which was directly seen by over 6 lakh farmers who participated through 1,600 Rythu Vedikas across the state. On Monday, the govt released Rs 6,000 per acre into the accounts of 41.25 lakh farmers who own up to two acres, covering a total of 39.16 lakh acres. The total funds released on Monday amounted to Rs 2,349 crore. The presence of the cabinet during the programme suggested that the govt may soon announce a schedule for local body elections, sources said. The event also marked the expansion of the existing Rythu Vedikas – where farmers receive guidance from scientists via video conference – from 500 to 1,600. The CM said those who disregarded farmers should not hold leadership positions in the state or country. He specifically targeted BRS leaders, stating that after ruling Telangana for nearly a decade and ignoring farmers, they were now pretending to be farmers' friends. On the other hand, the Congress govt had spent nearly Rs 1 lakh crore on agricultural sector in a short period, including loan waivers, he pointed out.
