Saiyaara would have 'flopped' if Shah Rukh Khan was in it, actor Varun Badola says superstar is 'too big for the film'
Varun Badola discusses whether Saiyaara's success means star power is not essential
In a new interview with Nayandeep Rakshit for his YouTube channel, Varun Badola pushed back against the idea that the success of Saiyaara proves that films no longer need big stars. The actor argued that the scale of a project dictates the star power required.
Badola then stressed the importance of big stars by comparing Shah Rukh Khan 's superstardom to newcomer Ahaan Panday. The 51-year-old actor dismissed the notion of people believing that Saiyaara has proved that the audience doesn't need stars anymore.
Varun Badola compares Shah Rukh Khan and Ahaan Panday for a film's success mantra
'Abhi tum Ahaan Panday ko utha ke Jawan mein daalo, Jawan flop ho jayegi. Shah Rukh ko Saiyaara mein daal do, Saiyaara flop ho jayegi ("If you put Ahaan Panday in Jawan, Jawan will flop. Put Shah Rukh [Khan] in Saiyaara, it will flop,)' he shared.
The Sky Force actor further explained that Shah Rukh Khan will become 'too big' for Saiyaara, considering his stardom. Speaking about Ahaan, Badola added that the young actor will not have the personality to run a big spectacle like Jawan.
Which role did Varun Badola play in Saiyaara?
Saiyaara starred Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda as the main leads. While Ahaan played the role of a musician, Krish Kapoor, Aneet was cast as Vaani Batra, a writer. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara also featured actors like Rajesh Kumar, Shaad Randhawa, and Neil Bhoopalam.
Actor Varun Badola was cast as Krish Kapoor's father, Ashok Kapoor. He is also a part of the new release, War 2.
While the traditional model of a superstar guaranteeing a film's success has been severely challenged, star power has not completely vanished. Instead, it has evolved into a more complex dynamic where content is now a critical co-factor.

War 2 box office collection: Hrithik Rohan, Jr NTR starrer War 2 gets huge success, earns Rs..., next target is Rs...
War 2 Box Office Collection Worldwide: Directed by Ayan Mukherji, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani, War 2 has been released in theatres. War 2, one of the most awaited films of the year with a huge budget, is making waves across the world. While the sixth film of the YRF spy universe has made a spectacular collection of Rs 52 crore in India, the figures of worldwide collection have also come out. War 2 box office collection day 2 War 2, made on a budget of 400 crores, is one of the most expensive films in Hindi cinema. This film starring Hrithik Roshan, Junior NTR's Hindi debut and Kiara Advani has lived up to people's expectations. War 2 has also given a tough competition to the previous films of the spy universe, Pathan and Tiger 3. If reports are to be believed, War 2 has earned Rs 82 crore worldwide. The Hindi collection of War 2 in India is Rs 29 crore (total Rs 36 crore), while the Telugu collection is Rs 25 crore. The Tamil collection is very low. The collection from abroad is US $ 2.4 million (Rs 20.75 crore), of which US $ 1 million is from the premiere and US $ 1.4 million from the first day. However, some trade analysts believe that this earning is low considering the fan following NTR has in the South. Will 'War 2' to reach earn Rs 300 crore in 4 days? However, keeping in mind the worldwide collection, it is now expected that within the next two days, War 2 will touch the figure of 300 crores worldwide. The film still has Saturday and Sunday off. It is expected that Hrithik and NTR's film will earn more in these two days than the opening day. However, the next week will decide whether War 2 will be a hit or a flop.

War 2 (Hindi) Day 2 Box Office: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer shows reasonable 60 percent growth on Independence holiday; Adds Rs 45 crore
War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, and starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani among others, grew by a reasonable 60 percent on day 2 in Hindi, to add Rs 45 crore net. The two day cume of the movie in Hindi stands at Rs 73 crore, keeping it on track for a Rs 130 crore net weekend. These aren't good numbers but they are decent nonetheless. The trend in the weekdays will be critical for the movie to end with net Hindi collections of over Rs 200 crore. War 2 Adds Decent Rs 45 Crore Net On Independence Day Holiday In Hindi The true value Hindi day 2 of War 2 is around Rs 48 crore net. Due to preference of the Telugu version of the movie over the Hindi version, the collections in the Andhra states for the Hindi version are lower than what they would normally be. War 2's contribution from the Telugu version for the opening day was roughly Rs 20 crore net. The presence of Jr NTR propelled the movie to these numbers. The collections from the dubbed version have come down considerably on day 2 and that was pretty much expected, too. They are pegged at around Rs 10 crore net. The two day India net all language total is a little over Rs 100 crore. War 2's Andhra States Distributor Stands To Lose Big There should be some stability at low levels for the movie on Saturday and Sunday in Telugu. However, for the prices at which the rights of the movie in the Andhra states (all languages) were acquired for, the numbers being put up by the movie are simply not going to be enough. Renegotiations will have to happen, else the distributor will lose a fortune. War 2's Trajectory Indicates A Rs 250 - 300 Crore Net Finish (All Languages) The India net numbers of War 2 are likely to end in the Rs 250 - 300 crore net range unless the weekday drops are too crazy. The overseas numbers are not much to shout about either. A USD 7.5 million extended global weekend, including premieres is probably all that the movie will be able to manage. The hold over the weekdays will be critical if it really needs to hit USD 15 million in its full run. War 2 In Theatres War 2 plays in theatres now. Tickets for the movie can be booked from the box office or from online ticketing applications. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
