PM Narendra Modi lauds National Spots Bill, plans to create sports ecosystem from farthest school to Olympics
Prime Minister
Narendra Modi
on Friday stressed the importance of sports in shaping India's future, linking it to the country's goal of becoming a developed nation. Speaking from the Red Fort during his Independence Day address, Modi said the recently approved National Sports Policy (NSP) 2025 would strengthen the sporting ecosystem from the grassroots to the Olympics.
'Sports is an essential aspect of development and I am happy, that from the time when parents used to scoff at children spending time in sports, we have reached a point where it has changed. Now, parents are happy if children take interest in sports,' Modi said as quoted by PTI. He described it as a 'good omen' for the nation.

The NSP 2025, cleared by the Union Cabinet last month, replaces the two-decade-old National Sports Policy 2001.
It aims to create a strong and inclusive sporting structure, with measures to ensure ethical practices, fair play, and healthy competition. The framework includes national agencies, inter-ministerial committees, and funding initiatives such as 'Adopt an Athlete', 'Adopt a District', and 'One Corporate-One Sport'.
'To promote sports, we have come up with the National Sports Policy after several decades. It would ensure development of sports, from school to the Olympics.

We will develop an ecosystem whether it is coaching, fitness or infrastructure… that penetrates the farthest corner of the country,' the Prime Minister said.
Within weeks of the policy's approval, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also ensured the passage of the National Sports Governance Bill in Parliament, introducing a stricter regulatory framework for National Sports Federations and a formal dispute resolution mechanism.
The Prime Minister also said that fitness is integral to sporting culture and urged citizens to address the growing obesity problem. Govt approves ₹62,000 crore deal to buy 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets
In a major boost for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India in defence project, India on Tuesday cleared the project for buying 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. The final approval for the acquisition of 97 LCA Mark 1A fighters was given by a high-level meeting today and will pave the way for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to produce the aircraft, defence sources told ANI. This will be the second order for the LCA Mark 1A fighters, as the government has already placed orders for 83 aircraft a few years ago for around Rs 48,000 crore. The programme will help the IAF to replace its fleet of MiG- 21s, which are finally being phased out by the government in next few weeks, they said. The indigenous fighter aircraft programme, fully backed by Defence Ministry and Air Headquarters is set to be a big boost for promoting indigenisation as well as give major business to the small and medium enterprises engaged in defence business across the country, they said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been pushing for the revival of the HAL, which has bagged orders for building all types of indigenous fighter aircraft, helicopters, along with the engines for them under his government. The Prime Minister had also undertaken a sortie in the trainer variant of the indigenous fighter, which was first-ever sortie by the Prime Minister of India in any combat aircraft. The plan to acquire 97 more LCA Mark 1A fighter jets was also announced first by the then Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on foreign soil in Spain when he told ANI about the mega plans to boost the indigenous fighter aircraft orders. The LCA Mark 1A plane has more advanced avionics and radars than the initial 40 LCAs being supplied to the Air Force. The indigenous content in the new LCA Mark1As is going to be more than 65 per cent. The programme has been the harbinger of the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives of the nation. More importantly, it is a flag bearer of India's self-reliance in the aerospace sector. The HAL is also set to bag deals for buying over 200 LCA Mark 2s and a similar number of fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft.

NCERT releases two modules on Operation Sindoor for students from Classes 3 to 12
Over three months after the Pahalgam killings and subsequent military conflict between India and Pakistan, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced two new modules on 'Operation Sindoor — A saga of valour' for Classes 3 to 8 and 'Operation Sindoor — A mission of honour and bravery,' for Classes 9 to 12. The modules state that 'Pakistan denied any involvement and didn't take any steps to stop the terrorists' and also states that the attack was 'directly ordered by Pakistan's political and military leadership.' The modules are meant as supplementary reading material for schoolchildren and are available online on NCERT website. Operation Sindoor has been described as 'a confluence of India's policy, intent and decisive capability,' and as 'our answer to protect peace of our country and stop these attacks (Pahalgam and so forth).' The module states that Operation Sindoor was named as such to honour the pain and strength of wives who had lost their soldier husbands to conflict. The module mentions the killing of 19 soldiers in Uri in 2016 and 40 CRPF jawans in Pulwama in 2019. It also mentions that 'the situation (in Jammu and Kashmir) changed over the years with abrogation of Article 370.' It further mentions that 'India's intelligence agencies found that Pakistan-based groups were planning terror attacks from across the border.' Additionally, it says, 'Operation Sindoor was India's way of stopping terrorism, led by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hizbul Mujahideen (HuM) and Pakistan's spy agency, ISI.' The module for Classes 9 to 12 states that 'Since independence, Pakistan has often tried to disturb peace in India — sometimes through war, and at other times, through terrorism.' It further states that abrogation of Article 370 paved way for development of Jammu and Kashmir, but 'Pakistan was not ready to accept this progress.' Candlelight marches The module also states that there were candlelight marches by civilians and how communities across India stood up to protest against the attack. It further states, 'Muslim communities in Hyderabad, Lucknow and Bhopal wore black armbands and openly denounced the attack. In Kashmir, shopkeepers closed their shops in protest. Villages near the border demanded strong action and supported the Armed Forces,' the module states. 'The local population stood up and spoke against terrorists. Their response breaks stereotypes and shows the real voice of peace-loving people,' it added. The module also mentions, 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, strategic guidance was very clear and empowering.' The module also states that 'On May 8, Pakistan escalated the conflict by attacking our airbases, logistic nodes, forward posts, all along the LoC and Army formation HQs — some using Unmanned Aerial Systems.' It goes on to say, 'Our (India's) integrated air defence grid and Counter-UAS grid were already in place. These systems — like the S-400, MRSAM, AKASH and traditional air defence guns — proved highly effective.' The module states that Pakistan intensified attacks on May 9 and targeted schools, religious places and civilian infrastructure. Indian Army neutralised 35-40 Pakistani Army personnel, as per intelligence inputs, the module states. 'The response (India's) shook Pakistani establishment as our airstrike breached their air defence, creating visible gaps that the world saw,' the module says. The NCERT has prepared special modules as supplementary reading material for students, focusing on key national themes. So far, 16 such modules have been released, including those on Partition Horrors and Chandrayaan Utsav among others. They are designed in a classroom format as a dialogue between a teacher and students intermingled with Q&A format activities.
