Professional women's soccer is coming to Denver.
With Peyton Manning on board as a minority owner, the NWSL is set to expand to Colorado ahead of the 2026 season. The club announced Tuesday that they have picked the name Denver Summit FC, a fitting title for the team set to play a mile high above sea level, not far from the Rocky Mountains.
Summit beat out five other contenders in the naming process: Denver Peak FC, Colorado 14ers FC, Denver Elevate FC, Denver FC and Denver Gold FC. Denver Summit was the clear winner in a fan vote. The expansion franchise also unveiled its logo and branding on Tuesday:
In separate posts, Denver Summit shared a nod to the Mile High City, and they released an (alternate?) "D" logo that will probably be appreciated by Denver Broncos fans:

Manning joined the Summit's ownership group last month.
'It's a real honor to be part of something so meaningful to the Colorado community,' Manning said in June. 'I'm proud to support the growth of women's sports and excited to help build a club that our city and our state can rally behind.'
Manning, who won Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos in 2015, still lives in the Denver area. His younger brother, Eli Manning, is a part-owner of Gotham FC, the NWSL's New York team. You can count on the league leaning into that brotherly rivalry when Denver and Gotham FC face off next year.
Denver Summit will play at a temporary stadium in Centennial over the next two years while a stadium is built downtown. The upcoming 14,500-seat stadium is scheduled to open in Denver ahead of the 2028 season.

Luke Kuechly on Cam Newton, Panthers: 'He'll be back'

Superman will return . . . at least according to one Carolina Panthers legend. Former linebacker Luke Kuechly was on hand for last week's premiere of "Super Men," The Charlotte Observer's new documentary about the 2015 Panthers. During the question-and-answer portion of the screening, Kuechly said that he thinks Cam Newton—a fellow pillar of that Super Bowl 50 squad—will eventually reunite with the organization. 'He'll be back,' Kuechly stated, per Scott Fowler and Théoden Janes. "I think it's just one of those things that's gotta work out timing-wise, to get everybody on the same page and back around." The relationship between Newton and the Panthers, at least in recent years, hasn't been particularly strong. Last November, Newton stated that he believed the organization was "avoiding his legacy" after seeing few, if any photos of himself during a visit to Bank of America Stadium earlier that year. Since then, the Panthers have poked at their all-time leading passer—including him in a number of social media posts. They've also, in a statement from a team spokesperson in March, expressed that their "doors are open" for Newton. Newton, of course, was the key member of that 2015 squad. He led Carolina to a 15-1 regular-season record and their second-ever NFC championship crown while be named the franchise's only Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year. Although he's yet to officially retire, Newton's playing days are almost certainly behind him. His last NFL down came in Week 18 of the 2021 campaign, the end of his second tenure with the Panthers. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Texas Longhorns and quarterback Arch Manning are widely predicted to be one of the best teams in college football during the upcoming 2025 season. Manning has received a lot of hype over the last few years. He has patiently waited his turn behind Quinn Ewers and is now set to take over as the Longhorns' starting quarterback. Due to the immense amount of hype he has received, Manning is facing a lot of pressure. Entering his first season as a starter, the nephew of NFL greats Peyton Manning and Eli Manning is expected to lead Texas to national championship contention. While he has shown elite potential, it can take some time for a player to develop on the field. Read more: Texas' Arch Manning Makes Bold 2026 NFL Draft Statement During a segment on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," college football analyst Danny Parkins spoke out with a clear message about Manning. "Arch is going to get that chance, but normally when it's a guy that gets all the hype beforehand, it's tough to live up to," Parkins said. "Jimmy Clausen obviously didn't. Trevor Lawrence ended up being the No. 1 overall pick and clearly hasn't lived up to the hype thus far, though the Jaguars gave him that second contract." Those comments came after the recent remarks from Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam. Of course, the Browns were rumored to be enamored with Manning and hoping to snag him in the 2026 NFL Draft if he entered it. "I think if you know the Manning family, they won't mention Arch at all," Haslam said. "I bet he stays in college for another two years. So that's not worth discussing." Last season, Manning received some valuable playing time. He completed 67.8 percent of his pass attempts for 939 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also rushing for 108 yards and four scores. He has a legitimate opportunity to be a superstar in the NFL at some point, but patience will be necessary to make sure that he has the best opportunity to succeed. It will be very interesting to see what the upcoming 2025 college football season has in store for Manning and the Longhorns.
