Mercy crews raced to the scene on the Boghead Roundabout after the horror smash involving a Volkswagen Polo and an HGV on Monday, June 9, at around 11:50pm. ‌ Tragically a 17-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later named locally as Ellie Douglas, an aspiring hairdresser. ‌ An 18-year-old female passenger was also taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. Police have confirmed they have arrested a 20-year-old man who has now been released pending further enquiries. The circumstances surrounding the incident have been referred to the police watchdog. Tributes poured in for Ellie was described as a"beautiful soul". A GoFundMe was set up to help the family with funeral costs. It said: "Ellie was a beautiful soul who lit up every room with her humour and warmth. She was a wee gem at our quiz nights and always brough t joy to those around her.
