He showed his class with a win in the Queenston Stakes on June 8 and followed that up with a second-place finish in the Plate Trial despite having to overcome a really tough trip.

'He's going to have to get a good trip because he's a closer.'

Listed as the 9-2 morning-line second choice in the $1-million race, Notorious Gangster also will be looking to end a curse that has been around since 1976: No winner of the Coronation Futurity as a two-year-old has won the Plate since Norcliffe that year.

Fraser Aebly, a B.C. native who is one of the rising stars of Woodbine's jockey colony, will get the ride. He made his Plate debut last year with a 12th-place finish.

Hernandez will ride Tom's Magic, a U.S. invader who has exclusively run on the turf in five career starts. A son of U.S. triple crown winner Justify, Tom's Magic has minor stakes wins at both the Fair Grounds and Monmouth so far this year. He does have experience training over Tapeta surfaces at Turfway Park.

Sedbury's Ghost was coming off a fourth-place finish in the Marine Stakes one race prior but had two wins before that. Minshall said the son of 2015 Plate winner Shaman Ghost has matured nicely since last year.

Regina Red Sox storm back to defeat Sylvan Lake, claiming first WCBL championship since 2012
The Regina Red Sox are the 2025 Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) champions after defeating the Sylvan Lake Gulls in a winner-take-all Game 3 5-4 Saturday. It is the Red Sox's third championship in franchise history, but their first since winning back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012. Regina lost the first game of the series at home Thursday 3-2 in an extra innings thriller. Facing elimination on the road Friday night and behind two runs, Regina scored six in the top of the 9th inning and win 10-7 to force the decisive Game 3. The Red Sox would get out early on the Gulls in the final game. A base hit from Regina-product Brady Bye would lead to a Sylvan Lake error which allowed Rafael Jackson to score the game's opening run. Shortstop Matthew Fox shinned again, going 3/4, scoring one run. Starting pitcher Chris Spry would work into the 5th inning, giving up just three runs on three hits. After getting into a bases loaded jam, Ayden Page would come out of the bullpen and shut down the Gulls. Page would finish the game on the mound, pitching 5 innings, giving up just one earned run on 6 hits, striking out 6 batters - earning the victory for Regina. Sylvan Lake took the lead in the fifth, but Regina would regain the lead in the seventh and never lose it from there. Jules-Anthony Vilsaint scores in Toronto FC debut to tie visiting Crew 1-1
Canada's Jules-Anthony Vilsaint made an immediate impact in his Toronto FC debut. Article content The Montreal native secured the late equalizer in a 1-1 draw against the Columbus Crew on Saturday at BMO Field mere moments after stepping onto the pitch. Article content Article content Vilsaint, wearing No. 99, darted toward the right side of the net, accepted a long cross from fellow TFC newcomer Djordje Mihailovic and stuffed it into the middle of the net to level the score in the 77th minute — just two minutes after entering as a substitute. Article content TFC received a scare soon after when Columbus midfielder Daniel Gazdag appeared to restore the Crew's lead, but the goal was ruled offside after a review. Article content Columbus' Diego Rossi opened the scoring in the eighth minute after a pass from captain Steven Moreira in the box deflected to him off TFC's Sigurd Rosted. Rossi made no mistake, depositing the ball under the outstretched arms of TFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson for his team-leading 14th goal of the season. Article content Johnson made a pair of clutch stoppage-time saves to preserve the Major League Soccer draw, which marked the second straight game in which TFC earned a late tie against a top opponent. The Canadian side also battled the league-leading Philadelphia Union to a 1-1 result one week earlier. Article content Thanks to Vilsaint, who was acquired from his hometown club on Wednesday in a deal for midfielder Matty Longstaff, TFC (5-8-13) maintained its slim playoff hopes alive with the late point. Article content Meanwhile, Columbus (13-9-5) missed the chance to leapfrog Nashville and Cincinnati, who were both idle, for second in the Eastern Conference. Article content Article content

Jules-Anthony Vilsaint scores late goal, Toronto earns draw vs. Columbus
(Photo credit: John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images) Jules-Anthony Vilsaint came off the bench for the late tying goal, as Toronto FC tied the visiting Columbus Crew 1-1 on Saturday. Vilsaint scored in the 77th minute, only two minutes after entering, from a pinpoint service by Djordje Mihailovic in his home debut for Toronto (5-13-8, 23 points), who have two losses and two ties in the past four matches. Mihailovic was acquired in a trade with the Colorado Rapids on Aug. 7 and earned his second assist with his new club. The Crew (12-5-9, 45 points) thought they had the go-ahead score moments later, but goal-scorer Daniel Gazdag was ruled offside after a review. Diego Rossi gave Columbus the lead in the eighth minute, but the Crew dropped to 2-2-1 in the past five MLS matches. His team-high 13th goal involved a bit of luck. Steven Moriera was attempting to get the ball to him from the right side of the box when the pass deflected off Toronto defender Sigurd Rosted's leg to Rossi for a quick strike. The start for Toronto was similar to its previous match at Philadelphia when the Union scored in the fourth minute but was able to pull even in the 90+1 minute for the draw in the last of four straight away matches. Columbus was unable to gain a two-goal advantage in the first half because of an outstanding save 1-on-1 by Sean Johnson on Andres Herrera in the 27th minute. Johnson returned from missing the Philadelphia match while in concussion protocol for his 425th MLS start. Crew midfielder Darlington Nagbe did not play because of a torso injury. The Crew are 6-0-2 in the past eight vs. Toronto. Columbus played its first MLS match since a 3-1 home loss to Orlando City. In between there were three Leagues Cup matches and a postponement of their Aug. 9 match at New York City FC to Sept. 17.
