‘Black Swan' director tried to start a feud between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis

'Black Swan' director Darren Aronofsky confessed that he tried to cause tension between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis during production of the 2010 twisted ballet thriller. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker, 56, spoke about how he attempted to pit the women against each other in an interview with Vogue while celebrating the flick 15 years later. 'I was trying to be a sneaky director and make them argue,' Aronofsky recalled, noting that Portman, 44, and Kunis, 42, didn't take the bait. 'They're both very clever and were instantly privy to whatever trick I was playing.' 'I remember being separated from Mila and that we weren't in the same space a lot when we weren't shooting,' Portman reflected. 8 Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman in 'Black Swan.' 8 Natalie Portman filming 'Black Swan.' And I was like, 'Of course she is! She's so f–king talented and I love her so much and I'm happy she's doing a great job,'' Portman explained. The 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' actress shared how their director would tell tales in hopes it would ignite an unhealthy competition between the two. 8 Mila Kunis in 'Black Swan.' 'Then I would text Nat and she'd be like, '…No, I'm not?' I think that's how we figured out what Darren was up to, but it was all in good fun.' Portman and Kunis' friendship, however, was too solid for Aronofsky's games. The Oscar-winner even suggested the 'Bad Moms' star for the role. 'We had been friends for years and I remember being at the Rose Bowl Flea Market with her, talking about this ballet movie I was making with Darren,' Portman said in the interview. 'Mila said, 'I remember when I would take off my pointe shoes…' and I was like, 'Wait, you did ballet?!' I immediately called Darren and said there was this amazing actress with ballet experience who would be perfect for Lily.' 8 Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman in 'Black Swan.' Despite their director's deception, Kunis sang his praises. 'Every journalist wanted to know how scary Darren was: 'How intense was his set? How intense was he?'' she recalled. 'I would say, 'He's actually a really kind, lovely guy who took us to see Twilight one time because we had the day off.' And journalists were always so disappointed that he wasn't some tortured soul who treated us like garbage.' Portman famously played Nina, an unstable principal ballerina whose leading role is jeopardized by Kunis' character, Lily. The rivalry causes Nina's darkness to take over, and lines become blurred between reality and fantasy. 'The Diplomat' season 3 release date is sooner than we thought

Get ready for another round of juicy political drama (and no, we're not just taking about the current state of the union). "The Diplomat" season 3 is returning to Netflix and, in even better news, the episodes are hitting the streaming service even earlier than we anticipated. In case you need a reminder, the hit show — which stars Golden Globe winner Keri Russell as veteran U.S. diplomat Kate Wyler, whose new posting as the ambassador to the United Kingdom has her navigating international crises, strategic alliances and her own personal marital problems (Rufus Sewell portrays Kate's husband and fellow diplomat Hal) — released its second season in October 2024, a year-and-a-half after its April 2023 debut season. However, "The Diplomat" fans won't have to wait that long for the third installment, as a newly released trailer has confirmed that the Debora Cahn-created drama will return on Thursday, October 16. Mark your calendars! The minute-long date announcement video, released by Netflix on Monday, August 18, also gives a teaser look at the new season, which will have Russell's Kate Wyler dealing with a new POTUS: Grace Penn, reprised by Oscar winner Allison Janney. "A terribly flawed woman is now president and only we know just how flawed," Kate is seen worrying in the new clip, though hubby Hal assures her, "You will be in the White House, watching what she does all the time." And, as seen in the announcement vid, Janney isn't the only major "West Wing" alum to be featured in "The Diplomat" cast this season: Emmy winner Bradley Whitford finds himself back in the governmental muck as President Grace Penn's husband, Todd Penn. 'I was thrilled when I heard that Debora [Cahn, creator, showrunner, and executive producer] was interested in me doing something,' Whitford told Tudum. 'I had no idea what it was, but I love the show. I was jealous of the writing on this show. I love Keri. I love Rufus. And I hear Allison Janney is good at acting too. It's an amazing cast.' Along with Russell, Sewell and Janney, fellow returning actors include David Gyasi as British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, Ali Ahn as CIA Station Chief Eidra Park, Ato Essandoh as Deputy Chief of Mission Stuart Hayford and Rory Kinnear as British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. As for what to expect from the upcoming episodes? 'Season 3 flips the chessboard,' Cahn told Tudum. 'In Season 3, Kate lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want.' Good thing that the third season is back to an eight-episode order after its six-ep predecessor — sounds like the powers that be are going to need that extra screentime! Chappell Roan's New Single Brings Her To Never-Before-Seen Highs

Just a few days after being properly released, Chappell Roan's new single 'The Subway' has turned out to be one of the biggest of her career. The tune is off to a fantastic start across several Billboard charts worldwide and in America, as it seems that there is a serious demand for anything new from the singer-songwriter and current holder of the Best New Artist Grammy. 'The Subway' doesn't just earn a lofty beginning, it helps the pop star climb higher than ever on multiple tallies. Chappell Roan's New Career Peaks 'The Subway' opens at No. 3 on both the Hot 100, America's list of the most consumed songs in the country, and on the Billboard Global 200, which ranks the biggest tracks all around the planet. No. 3 now stands as Roan's all-time career high on both of those rankings. On the Hot 100, she previously stalled at No. 4 with both 'Good Luck, Babe!' and 'Pink Pony Club.' Globally, 'Good Luck, Babe!' — which peaked at No. 5 — stood out as her highest-rising title until this frame. Chappell Roan Almost Hits No. 1 for the First Time Roan almost scores her first No. 1 on the Streaming Songs tally, which looks specifically at the tunes that rack up the most plays on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, iHeartRadio, Tidal, and others in the United States. On that list, 'The Subway' begins its time in the runner-up space, losing out to 'Golden' from the movie KPop: Demon Hunters. Just as is the case on the Hot 100, Roan has seen two tunes peak at No. 4 on the Streaming Songs list, although 'Pink Pony Club' only galloped to No. 6 as both 'Good Luck, Babe!' and 'The Giver' worked their way to No. 4. 'The Subway' Launches Inside the Top 10 Everywhere 'The Subway' also enters the top 10 on two other Billboard rankings. The track is new at No. 4 on the Digital Song Sales chart and No. 10 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., though those do not mark new peak positions for the rising pop musician on those lists. 'Good Luck, Babe!' and 'The Giver' Join 'The Subway' 'The Subway' is the latest single from Roan that continues her global success, which is not featured on her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. That set did produce tracks like 'Pink Pony Club,' 'Hot to Go!,' and 'Red Wine Supernova.' While many of her most famous cuts — including 'Good Luck, Babe!' and 'The Giver' — are likely to be featured on a forthcoming project, though Roan has no timetable for when she may finish her sophomore full-length.
