Delhi has already exceeded its average July rainfall, official data shows.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city has received 220.2 mm of rain so far this month—surpassing the monthly normal of 209.7 mm. Since the start of the monsoon season on June 1, Delhi has recorded a total of 322.2 mm of rainfall, higher than the usual seasonal average of 270.1 mm. The monsoon reached the capital in late June.

Between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm on Tuesday alone, Safdarjung—Delhi's primary weather station—logged 68.1 mm of rain. Other parts of the city reported varying levels: the Ridge recorded 129.5 mm, Lodhi Road 71.8 mm, Pragati Maidan 45.5 mm, and Pusa 37.5 mm, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
IMD prediction for the upcoming week
The IMD has predicted that the ongoing rain is likely to persist for the next seven days, continuing through at least August 3. With overcast skies, the city experienced spells of on-and-off rain throughout the day.
Tuesday's maximum temperature dipped to 29.1 degrees Celsius, which is '5.8 notches below the season's average,' while the minimum was 26.8 degrees Celsius, according to IMD data.

Air quality also saw a slight improvement, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 72 at 4 pm, placing it in the 'satisfactory' range.
As per CPCB classification, an AQI reading of zero to 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.

According to the weatherman the city will continue to experience light rain till the weekend. Heavy spell of rain for the past few days has brought down the rainfall deficit from 26% till July 31 to 5%. "Due to the trough line, there will be light rain in the city and east UP region but a heavy rainfall will be received in the parts of west UP. During the last 24 hours, the southwest monsoon remained active over western Uttar Pradesh and normal over eastern Uttar Pradesh. During this period, heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over western Uttar Pradesh with very heavy rainfall at isolated places and light to moderate rainfall at most places over eastern Uttar Pradesh. Besides, thunderstorms also occurred at some places over entire Uttar Pradesh," said senior scientist Mohammad Danish of the state met department. Gurgaon: The city sweltered under heat and humidity as temperature rose to 33.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, 1.4 degrees higher than the previous day. The day started with relatively dry conditions, with humidity at 53% and a minimum temperature of 24.2°C, which was 0.6 degrees lower than Tuesday's. But humidity kicked in soon after. Relief, however, may be on the horizon. IMD has forecast a fresh spell of rain across Haryana which is likely to begin later this week. Light to moderate rainfall is likely at a few places on Aug 6, 9, and 12, while heavier showers are expected across many locations on Aug 10 and 11. Isolated heavy rainfall has been predicted for Aug 11 and 12. "The upcoming wet phase is being driven by multiple weather systems. The monsoon trough currently stretches from Ferozepur through Karnal, Moradabad, Kheri, and Jalpaiguri to the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh. There's also an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, hovering at around 1.5km above sea level. In addition, a western disturbance is active over Punjab, with its upper-level trough extending as high as 7.6km," an IMD official said.
