Japanese E-10 bullet trains to run on Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor
'The newest Japanese trains will run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed corridor,' the official said.
The entire 508 km corridor (352 km in Gujarat and 156 km in Maharashtra) is being developed with Japanese Shinkansen technology. This is expected to set new benchmarks for speed, safety, and reliability.
An official statement said Japanese Shinkansen is currently running E5 trains. The next generation trains are E10.
'In the spirit of strategic partnership between Japan and India, the Japanese government has agreed to introduce E10 Shinkansen trains in
the project,' the statement added.
According to a status report on the bullet train project issued Monday, 310 km of viaduct construction was complete.
Commercial operations for the Bullet Train are slated for 2027, with the first prototype expected to run in 2026.
While the Railway Board was earlier relying solely on Japanese technology for bullet trains, India may now opt for a tailored mix with more domestic partners. A complete signalling and telecommunication (S&T) system contract was recently awarded to vendors offering European technology with Indian partners.
In parallel, talks with Japanese companies are continuing on the supply of Shinkansen trainsets. Trials with E5 variant Shinkansen trainsets will ascertain their feasibility, and identify any modifications needed in the under-development E10 trainsets.
Besides Japanese firms, the government has tasked Integral Coach Factory (ICF) with developing a bullet train capable of reaching speeds of up to 280 kmph. The railway production unit has partnered with defence public sector enterprise -
BEML
to produce these trains.

Nissan Magnite Scores 5-Star Rating In GNCAP Tests
The Nissan Magnite has passed the Global NCAP tests with flying colours, scoring a five-star rating. The made-in-India SUV got the rating after the latest round of tests done by the agency under the updated protocol. This is a significant improvement over the previous 2-star rating awarded to the SUV. It is to be noted that the first test of the SUV by GNCAP was done back in 2022. Diving into the details, the SUV scored four stars for adult protection and 2 stars for child safety under the previous testing protocol. The iteration tested earlier had two airbags and missed out on multiple advanced safety features. However, the Japanese automaker made efforts to improve the rating and submitted the SUV twice for reassessment to end up getting a perfect five-star rating. To get the new score, the Nissan Magnite received multiple changes in terms of safety features. The first set of revisions featured six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC), which raised the vehicle's safety rating to 4 stars. Not content with that, the company further improved Magnite's safety features. The following round of upgrades was implemented, adding advanced restraint systems, pedestrian safety enhancements, and 3-point seatbelts for every passenger. These initiatives ultimately elevated the vehicle to the highly sought-after 5-star adult protection rating, along with 3 stars for child occupant safety. The car achieved a score of 32.31 out of 34 for adult safety and 33.64 out of 49 for child safety. The Nissan Magnite is presently sold in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 6.14 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered with two engine options: a 1.0-litre B4D naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 72 hp and 96 Nm of torque, and a relatively more powerful 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 99 hp and 160 Nm. The naturally aspirated variant is available with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT, while the turbocharged version comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox.

Nissan Magnite scores 5 stars at Global NCAP after these upgrades: Details
The made-in-India Nissan Magnite compact SUV has scored a star safety rating in the latest round of crash tests carried out by Global NCAP . This represents a major upgrade from its earlier performance, where it had received just a 2-star rating under the same evaluation system. This marks a significant leap forward compared to the earlier version, fitted with just two airbags, which had scored only two stars in both categories. When Magnite was first crash tested in 2022 under the previous testing protocol, it had scored 4 stars for adult protection and 2 stars for child safety. Later, the Magnite was re-evaluated under Global NCAP's updated and more rigorous testing protocol, which now included side-impact assessments and stricter safety criteria. Initially, the results were underwhelming, with the SUV earning only a 2-star rating. In response, Nissan took initiative and voluntarily submitted the Magnite for reassessment not once, but twice. MG M9 first drive review: More than just a fancy box on wheels? After the initial low safety rating, Nissan implemented a series of key upgrades to improve the Magnite's crash test performance. The first phase introduced six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC), which helped raise the safety rating to four stars. The company didn't stop here; the Japanese Automaker continued refining the SUV's safety package. The second set of improvements included upgraded restraint systems, pedestrian protection enhancements, and 3-point seatbelts for all seating positions. These efforts ultimately led to Magnite achieving a 5-star rating for adult occupant protection and 3 stars for child safety. The SUV has now scored an impressive 32.31 out of 34 for adult protection and 33.64 out of 49 in the child safety assessment . The Magnite is offered with two engine options - 1.0-litre NA petrol with 72hp of power, 96Nm torque, and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol with 100hp of power, 160Nm torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard across both. The NA petrol is offered with a 5-speed AMT, whereas the turbo-petrol engine gets a CVT option. Nissan claims a fuel efficiency of 20kpl with the manual and 17.4kpl for the CVT turbo variants. In terms of features, the SUV gets LED headlights, DRLs, fog lamps, LED tail lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, 360-degree camera, wireless charger, 7.0-inch digital instrument, auto dimming IRVM, Type-C charging ports and more. Safety-wise, it gets six airbags, ESC, three-point seatbelts and seatbelt reminders for all seats, as standard. Discover everything about the automotive world at Times of India .
