The poll of 1,000 footy fans were asked to reveal their favourite ex-player and co-commentator on TV.
Dubbed Super Ally by fans, the former player - known also as Coisty - netted 44 per-cent of the votes.
Those taking part in the poll were asked to name their top three footy co-commentators.
McCoist came out on top, with a host of England legends following in behind.
39 per-cent of respondents named Alan Shearer while Sky Sports favourite Gary Neville came in third with 36 per-cent.
Steve McManaman just missed out of the top 10 with 28 per-cent, followed by Lee Dixon with 27 per-cent, and Owen Hargreaves with 25 per-cent.
BBC commentator Guy Mowbray came out on top when punters were asked to name their favourite lead match commentator.
He scooped 43 per-cent of the vote.
McCoist's regular TNT Sports partner Darren Fletcher was ranked fifth on 33 per-cent.
The Coral study also found that just 47 per-cent were looking forward to seeing Wayne Rooney on Match of the Day, with 53 per-cent saying they weren't.

He said: 'Coisty is a legend, not just for Scotland and Rangers, but among fans themselves.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace: Latest team news, predicted lineups and injuries
Chelsea kick off their new Premier League season against London rivals Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge this weekend. Just 35 days after lifting the Club World Cup in New Jersey, the Blues go again with a host of new faces eager to make an impact. Joao Pedro and Liam Delap did just that in the US, with both strikers now ahead of Nicolas Jackson in the pecking order in west London with the Senegal international suspended for Sunday's game regardless. Three goals in two Club World Cup appearances, plus another three in quick-fire pre-season games against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, could see Pedro start the new campaign as Enzo Maresca's first-choice no9. Jamie Gittens will also be hopeful of getting the nod alongside Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto in that attacking three behind the striker. Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian will have his eye on making that role on the right his own as the season progresses Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Maresca will provide further updates on the pair when he speaks to the press on Friday. Jorrel Hato is also ready to make his debut at the back if called upon. Crystal Palace meanwhile started their season with a Community Shield victory over Liverpool but have a string of injury problems to contend with ahead of their league opener. Daichi Kamada is among those who could miss out with Chadi Riad, Cheick Doucoure and Eddie Nketiah also carrying knocks. Ell eyes will be on Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze in the coming days. Liverpool are in talks to sign the Palace skipper while Tottenham have made their move to sign his England teammate. Either man missing out this weekend could provide the clearest indication yet they will be on the move. Both Pedro and Delap have hit the ground running but the Brazil international should get the nod. His countryman Estevao may have to wait for his first competitive start. Chelsea vs Palace falls on Sunday 17 August with kick-off scheduled for 2pm. Parker on transfers, player turnover and Premier League challenges
Burnley boss Scott Parker has been speaking to the media before Saturday's Premier League game against Tottenham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (kick-off 15:00 BST).Here are the key lines from his news conference:Parker confirmed there were "no new injury concerns", adding: "We have had a good pre-season. Picked up a couple of little niggles along the way but we are in a good place."He feels it has been "positive" and "crucial" bringing in players with Premier League experience, stating: "For the balance of the squad going into the season, we have signed players who have been in the division and understand what it looks like. It's a young squad, last year it was and this year it is, a young squad in terms of being in this league, but these players we have brought in are crucial for us."The Burnley boss acknowledged there are "areas we are looking at" but that "transfer windows bring their challenges" and there are "lots of factors and variables" that go into who they can sign. He added: "We have a big squad at the moment so no doubt some will be leaving, but over the next two weeks we will be trying to do more [business]."On trying to establish the club back in the Premier League: "The challenges for teams coming up is big. It has been well documented in recent years that they are very demanding challenges. But, we worked tirelessly for this past year. I feel like we built something fundamental in this group that is a bedrock for us and put us in this position. We are going to try and give the best version of ourselves."Parker said in an "ideal world you don't want a big turnover of players" but that is what relegations and promotions can bring. He added: "That is the constant rollercoaster. In an ideal world you don't want that and you want continuity. But what gets that is securing Premier League football and staying there. My job is to get the best out of players, build on what we had from last year and build culture for what is expected of new players coming in."On their readiness for the season: "We are in a good place. We have worked hard. I've put lots of demands on the team. But, you never know in this position until the season starts [how ready you are], and when it gets going you are always improving."Catch up on all of Thursday's Premier League news conferences and the rest of the day's football news
