The apprentice bricklayer's body was found by Spanish police at the bottom of a ravine in a remote national park on 15 July, an inquest at Preston Coroner's Court heard.

Teacher, poet, and entrepreneur: Who was slain hostage Judith Weinstein Haggai?

Judy was volunteering on the kibbutz when she heard Gadi playing the flute and fell in love, the kibbutz said. The body of hostage Judith Weinstein Haggai, a 70-year-old member of Kibbutz Nir Oz, was returned to Israel early Thursday morning, the IDF announced. She and her husband, Gadi Haggai, were killed on October 7, 2023, and their bodies were taken to Gaza. Judy was 70 years old, a mother of four, and a grandmother of seven. She was an English teacher specializing in children with special needs, and she worked with children with anxiety by using meditation and mindfulness methods. She was a poet and entrepreneur, and was dedicated to working for peace and brotherhood, her kibbutz said. "Judi Weinstein Haggai had a habit of writing haiku every morning - a poem of one or two sentences - and posting it on Facebook," Kibbutz Nir Oz said on Instagram. "The last one she wrote was on October 7th. The poems she wrote over the years were published in poetry books." 'We welcome the closure that we have been granted and the return for burial of our loved ones, who went out for a walk on that Black Sabbath morning and never came back," the Weinstein Haggai family said Thursday. Nir Oz thanked the IDF and security forces who carried out the complex rescue operation. They also thanked "everyone who supported, struggled, prayed, and fought for us and for all of Israel," as well as the FBI, and the US and Israeli governments. "However, our hearts will not be whole until all 12 hostages from Nir Oz and all 56 hostages in total are brought back," the statement concluded. Judy and Gadi were the "power couple of Kibbutz Nir Oz." Judy was volunteering on the kibbutz when she heard Gadi playing the flute and fell in love, the kibbutz said. "They complete each other: he's a goofball, just like a little kid, always dancing and laughing, while Judy is an English teacher, taking care of children, and sharing meditation and mindfulness techniques," the kibbutz said. Haggai and his wife had been out walking early on October 7 when Hamas terrorists attacked them according to the Hostage Family Forum. Their daughter, Iris, heard in a phone call that they were hiding and that her father was injured and later lost contact with them. The terrorists kidnapped both of them and took them to Gaza.

Something insidious is coming out of the Diddy trial: Laughter

Something insidious is coming out of the Diddy trial: Laughter | Opinion We must resist the urge to make everything into a joke. We must take some things seriously – and domestic violence should be one of those things. Show Caption Hide Caption Security guard says Sean Combs offered cash for hotel video Eddy Garcia testified Sean Combs paid $100K for hotel footage showing him kick, hit and drag Cassie Ventura Fine, according to court testimony. There's something I've been noticing when I scroll through Instagram. Any time I see an advertisement, any advertisement, really, there always seems to be a peculiar comment underneath the video. 'Nice try, Diddy.' The spam comment, which refers to rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs, has been around for almost a year now. According to Know Your Meme, a Wikipedia-esque website dedicated to the inside jokes of the internet, it's unclear what the spam comment means. What is clear is that it is as commonplace as these advertisements themselves. What's also clear is that people are joking about something that isn't really that funny. 'Nice try Diddy' is not the only joke that's come out of the bombshell sex crimes trial against Combs, in which the rapper and mogul has been charged with racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. For the past year, people have latched onto the salacious details of the case – from 'Diddy parties' and 'freak offs' to baby oil to the sketches from the courtroom – to joke about on the Internet and with their friends. The only problem? We seem to always be laughing about the wrong things. SNL, memes mock Diddy trial. But it can retraumatize survivors of abuse. There are more than 70 lawsuits against Combs, with at least 81 people accusing the rapper of sexual assault. What we've heard has been harrowing. Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura Fine, who dated Combs on and off from 2007 to 2018, testified in the first days of the trial about the physical and emotional abuse that she suffered. There is a video of him physically assaulting her at the InterContinental Hotel, a video that a hotel security guard alleges he was paid $100,000 to destroy. There's footage of Combs throwing a vase at her head. There are photos of bruises and cuts that Ventura Fine allegedly suffered after altercations with Combs. A friend of Ventura Fine's testified that he threw a knife in the singer's direction. That's not the only testimony that stands out. In May, rapper Kid Cudi testified that his car was set on fire by an 'incendiary device,' alleging that Combs was the perpetrator. Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan testified on June 4 that Combs dangled her over a 17-story balcony and threatened to kill her. I encourage anyone joking about this case to read the victims' statements – they are no laughing matter. Opinion: Diddy trial and Macron shove reveal our blind spots about domestic violence That hasn't stopped comedians, whether they be on Instagram or on "Saturday Night Live," from lampooning the trial as it unfolds. It hasn't stopped the memes, like "The Diddler" and baby oil. There were also jokes about Amber Heard during her trial with Johnny Depp, jokes that experts claimed exacerbated the trauma survivors suffer from. In the same way, levity about the alleged abuse and coercion that Combs' victims experienced could hurt people who have also experienced these things. When will we stop laughing at abuse victims? I understand the urge to make a joke out of serious matters. Humor helps us cope with the horrific realities of life. It's akin to the way people joke about President Donald Trump's administration: The details are so egregious, they feel like parody. But for victims of sexual violence, this trial is anything but funny. It isn't just a meme or a spicy headline; it's the terrifying reality of abuse. It's the reality of a world where women are not believed, and where the justice system fails to intervene until the damage is already done. Opinion: I work with sex trafficking victims. Here's how Diddy's trial could help them. Despite the mountain of evidence against Combs, there are still people who believe he is innocent, or at least shouldn't be the only one on trial. On 'Piers Morgan Uncensored' in late May, rapper Ray J told the host that there were never any 'freak offs.' About the same time, Death Row Records cofounder Suge Knight told journalist Chris Cuomo that he believed his longtime musical rival should walk free, saying that other executives were involved in the events. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, including Combs. Still, it makes me uneasy that there are people who would be so quick to defend him. To me, the flippancy with which people are treating the case is just as dangerous as the jokes made about it. We must resist the urge to make everything into a joke. We must take some things seriously – domestic violence should be one of those things. We can't let our urge to laugh at discomfort win over our desire for justice. Something has to matter. Wanted Washington dad Travis Decker seen in doorbell footage before allegedly murdering his 3 daughters

The Washington dad wanted for the murders of his three daughters was spotted on security cameras in the days leading up to the brutal killings as police ramp up their search for the military-trained suspect. Doorbell footage captured Travis Decker walking up to an unidentified home's door, knocking on it before strangely sliding his hand up and down the surface, according to video released by the Chelan County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday evening. Authorities noted the video was from before the alleged killings, but released the footage as they are the most recent images of Decker. 6 Travis Decker was spotted on a Ring doorbell camera days before his three daughters' bodies were discovered on June 2, 2025. Chelan County Sheriff's Office Decker, 32, is wanted on three counts of murder and kidnapping after the bodies of his three daughters –Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 – were discovered in a remote campground near his abandoned truck. Police also shared two other images of the 32-year-old military veteran that showcased his bushy mustache and chin beard. Decker, who is homeless and has been living out of his truck, also has multiple arm tattoos and was sporting a ponytail in one of the pictures. He was described as 5-foot-8 inches, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. 'It is unknown if he is armed at this time but he should be considered dangerous and should not be contacted or approached,' the sheriff's department noted. 6 The bodies of his three daughters -Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 – were discovered in a remote Washington campground. Chelan County Sheriff's Office 6 Decker, who is homeless and has been living out of his truck, also has multiple arm tattoos and was sporting a mullet in one of the pictures. Chelan County Sheriff's Office Decker had picked up his daughters from his ex-wife Whitney Decker's house for a scheduled custody visit on May 30 and brought them to a campground in the rural Washington State city of Wenatchee. The girls' mother reported the trio missing at 9:45 p.m. Friday after her ex-husband failed to return them home. An endangered missing persons alert was issued Saturday before it was canceled Monday after police discovered the girls. Their bodies were found in an embankment at Rock Island Campground, about 18 miles west of the town of Leavenworth, at around 5 p.m. Their bodies were found close to their father's white 2017 GMC Sierra truck, which allegedly had two bloody handprints smeared on the back. They were found with plastic bags over their heads and their wrists zip-tied. Preliminary investigations indicate the girls likely died from asphyxiation. Officials believe Decker, who was a member of the Washington National Guard since 2021 after transferring from the Active Component, can survive for months off-grid in the wilderness. 'We understand that at times, he would do cashing, so we understand that's a possibility that he could have scoped out this area before, put some supplies out there, and has the ability and knowledge to survive for long periods of time,' Sheriff Morrison said at a press conference Wednesday night, KIRO7 reported. 6 The girls' mother reported the trio missing at 9:45 p.m. Friday after her ex-husband failed to return them home. Chelan County Sheriff's Office 'Thanks to our Marshall's Office tracking down some good leads that we feel are giving us more of an insight into Travis' mindset – where he may have gone to,' Morrison added. A $20,000 reward is available for information leading to Decker's arrest.
