UPF, Jagruti spit fire at Ponnam for casting aspersions on Kavitha
The UPF and Telangana Jagruti released separate video messages protesting the minister's remarks. They highlighted that Ms Kavitha has consistently advocated for the Central Cabinet's approval of BC reservations through various democratic means for the past year and a half. They reminded that the state government, seemingly bowing to the public movements of Telangana Jagruti and UPF, had introduced bills in the Assembly and Council providing 42 per cent reservation in education, jobs, and local bodies.
The groups demanded to know what efforts had been made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and BC Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to secure the President's approval for the bills passed by the Assembly and Council. They sought an explanation for the public as to why the entire party was not taken to Delhi and why Mr Prabhakar, as the BC Minister, could not exert pressure on the Chief Minister.
They further demanded that the Chief Minister clarify why he did not address the legality of BC reservations when he recently met the Prime Minister, instead opting to submit a memorandum regarding various projects. They also noted that MLC Kavitha had called for a 'Rail Roko' protest on July 17, specifically demanding that local body elections only be held after 42 per cent reservation is provided to BCs.
Jagruti and UPF leaders defended their meeting with R Krishnaiah, who has been involved in BC movements for four and a half decades, to seek support for the rail blockade, stating there was nothing improper in this.
They alleged that the Chief Minister and ministers were not accepting Mr Krishnaiah's call for all BCs to support Ms Kavitha's movement, and that this was the reason behind the allegations being made against Ms Kavitha. Telangana Jagruti Youth Wing Convener Sampath Goud, leader Dugutla Naresh Prajapati, and UPF leaders Peddapuram Kumaraswamy, Surampudi Sujatha Goud, Salvachari, Ramakoti, Seema Ramesh Kuruma, and Rasamalla Balakrishna all publicly responded to the issue.

Andhra government marks Sardar Gouthu Latchanna's 116th birth anniversary, announces welfare measures for BCs
VIJAYAWADA: The State government, through the Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, Handlooms, and Textiles Departments, celebrated the 116th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and social reformer Sardar Gouthu Latchanna at Tummalapalli Vari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on Saturday. The event underscored Latchanna's lifelong commitment to marginalised communities. BC Welfare Minister S Savitha hailed Latchanna's fight for the cause of downtrodden during and after the freedom struggle. She announced that the upcoming Adarana 3.0 scheme will provide mopeds to Goud (toddy-tapper) community members to improve their mobility and livelihoods. She emphasised the coalition government's dedication to BC welfare under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, citing initiatives inspired by Latchanna's legacy. She urged the BC community to support Naidu's efforts, and paid floral tributes to Latchanna's statue alongside other dignitaries. She noted that Latchanna's birth anniversary is now a State festival. Savitha highlighted Latchanna's fight against untouchability, and his efforts to protect Harijan and tribal communities through organised yatras. She announced that modern equipment would be provided to Goud workers for safer palm tree climbing. Additionally, the Horticulture Research Centre in Rampachodavaram will develop new palm-based products to boost employment and economic growth of the Goud community, aligning with Naidu's vision. Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu shared his family's personal connection with Latchanna, describing him as a towering figure from a poor village near Odisha border. He praised Latchanna's role in the freedom movement, and his mentorship of late parliamentarian Yerram Naidu. He credited Naidu for naming the Thotapalli project after Latchanna in 2018, and empowering BCs with key positions. He criticised the previous YSRCP regime for harassing Latchanna's family, asserting that BCs have consistently supported the TDP.

Ministers call for booth-level unity to win Jubilee Hills bypoll
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to ensure victory in the Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll. He instructed leaders to work unitedly and strive for a massive majority, irrespective of the party's candidate. Addressing a preparatory meeting with booth in-charges and key Congress leaders of the Erragadda division in Jubilee Hills constituency at the Minister's Quarters here on Saturday, he stressed the importance of grassroots mobilisation and called for the immediate formation of the Erragadda Division Coordination Committee and Booth Coordination Committees. The Minister assured that public issues in Erragadda would be resolved on a priority basis, noting that a booth-wise feedback mechanism would be put in place across all 46 booths in the division. He said pending development works would be expedited and that the GHMC Commissioner and Hyderabad Collector would soon tour the area to review road projects. 'I will personally undertake a padayatra in the division along with officials to address people's grievances,' he said. Minister Prabhakar directed the cadre to take the government's flagship welfare and development schemes to every household. Later, Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao said Congress's victory in the Jubilee Hills by-election would usher in the State's continued development. 'The Chief Minister's vision for Hyderabad's future rests on Congress winning this election. People must decide who can safeguard their children's future and the city's development,' he said.
