Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds became co-owners of Australia's three-times champion SailGP team on Friday, saying they were "incredibly excited".
The actors, who are close friends, join Olympic gold medalist and driver Tom Slingsby at the helm of a team which was rebranded the "Flying Roos".
"We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure," the Australian Jackman and Canadian-American Reynolds said in a statement.
"Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country, as well as being an avid fan of sailing.
"He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia."
Jackman and Reynolds starred together last year in the blockbuster movie "Deadpool & Wolverine".
Reynolds also owns Welsh football club Wrexham along with fellow actor Rob McElhenney.
SailGP stages regattas close to shore with identical high-performance, foiling, multi-hull boats that can reach speeds of 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph).
It was launched in 2019 by American billionaire Larry Ellison and champion New Zealand yachtsman Russell Coutts.
Australia, skippered by Slingsby, have won three of the four editions so far.
"This is an incredible milestone for us and for our sport, having global icons Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds come on board as co-owners of our team," said Slingsby.
"They bring unmatched star power, a love for storytelling and a sharp sense of humor that fits perfectly with our team."
The new-look team will make its debut this weekend in New York, the sixth leg of the season.

South African Fashion Retailer TFG Reports 4.6% Rise in Annual Profit

South African fashion retailer TFG reported a 4.6% rise in annual earnings on Friday thanks to a rebound in sales in Africa in the second half of the year, store expansion and the acquisition of British chain White Stuff. TFG, which also operates in Australia, said headline earnings per share rose to 10.15 rand ($0.57) in the year ended March 31, up from 9.707 rand. Gross profit was up 6.7% to a record 28.8 billion rand ($1.62 billion). TFG Africa's sales rose 7% in the second half after falling 0.1% in the first half. For the full year, sales rose by 3.7%, Reuters said. Group online sales now contribute 12% of total sales, driven by the "continued success of our Bash platform, which has reached profitability two years ahead of schedule - a very likely unique achievement in the South African retail space," TFG CEO Anthony Thunström said. TFG's total group revenue rose by 4.1% to 62.6 billion rand for the year, while retail sales increased 3.6%, boosted by 8.7% sales growth in the second half after a 2% contraction in the first half, supported by store expansions across all territories and the acquisition of fashion and lifestyle retailer White Stuff in the UK. In Britain, TFG's annual sales rose by 16.4% in pounds, following the acquisition, while TFG Australia continued to face difficult trading conditions, with sustained high inflation and interest rates impacting the consumer. The retailer declared a final dividend of 230 cents per share.

China Out of Contention for World Cup after 1-0 Loss to Indonesia

China was eliminated from 2026 World Cup qualification Thursday after a 1-0 loss to Indonesia in Jakarta. A first-half penalty from Ole Romeny was enough to keep China, whose sole appearance was in 2002, last in Group C with just one game remaining. Indonesia, coached by Patrick Kluivert, took the lead just before the break when Romeny converted from the penalty spot. Elsewhere in the group, a last-minute goal from Aziz Behich gave Australia a 1-0 win over Japan in Perth to put the Socceroos within touching distance of a sixth straight World Cup appearance. Australia can qualify for its sixth successive World Cup later Thursday if Saudi Arabia, next week's final group opponent, fails to win in Bahrain. The already-qualified Japan fielded an experimental XI with only Daichi Kamada and Koki Machida having made more than four international appearances, but still had the majority of possession and chances. Substitute Takefusa Kubo had perhaps the best opportunity with 10 minutes remaining, but the midfielder shot wide of the post from inside the area. In the 90th minute, Riley McGree broke free down the right and pulled back for Behich to curl home to bring Perth Stadium to its feet and give Australia its first win over Japan in 16 years. 'It hasn't sunk in just yet but when the final whistle went it was a great feeling,' Behich said. 'It was a tough game and we had to grind it out. It's been a long campaign and we have worked so hard.' The teams who finish third and fourth in the three groups in this third round of Asian qualifying will advance to a fourth stage to compete for the remaining two Asian places at the World Cup.
