Kevin Feige Confirms Punisher Will Be "Different" In 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'

In a surprising announcement that felt straight out of the comics, it was confirmed that Jon Bernthal would be reprising his role as Frank Castle aka The Punisher for the MCU movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day . Of course, fans have been curious how that combination would work out on the big screen, especially given the more mature style of The Punisher. Now Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that the Punisher will be 'different' in Spider-Man: Brand New Day . Feige explained this while speaking in a roundtable interview, and as shared via CBM, this will result in a different tone for the Punisher's appearance in the new movie. Of course, putting the usually R-rated character into a PG-13 Spider-Man movie on the big screen would definitely have some tone changes. Here's what Feige shared: 'When Punisher is in the Spider-Man movie, it'll be a different tonality.' In a much more detailed response, Feige continued to explain how the characters will work with one another, further calling Spider-Man: Brand New Day a movie with 'street-level crime' rather than the 'world-ending events' we've seen Peter Parker deal with so far: 'I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with, for lack of better terms, street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events. So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we've never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover…I don't want to say too much, but Destin, I will say too much, Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he's got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.' Hopefully we'll have more information on how Spider-Man: Brand New Day will shake things up for the MCU and the franchise's versions of Spider-Man and Punisher . For now, however, it sounds like a story that fans of the comics will certainly be able to enjoy. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe updates as we have them.

Tom Holland shows off new Spidey suit in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' set photos as production begins

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will swing into theaters in less than a year, and now production is officially underway. To celebrate, Tom Holland shared two on-set photos on Instagram, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at what to expect from his fourth outing as Spider-Man. Both shots show the English actor suited up in the web-slinging hero's new costume, standing on top of an armored vehicle with a stunt wire attached to his back. 'Spider-Man Brand New Day 1,' he wrote in the post's caption. Filming officially kicked off in Glasgow, Scotland, on August 1. A post shared by Tom Holland (@tomholland2013) A photo posted by on Holland's posts gave fans a more comprehensive first look at his new Spider-Man suit after Sony unveiled the new design on Saturday. In a teaser video, Holland emerges from the shadows in his redesigned web-slinging get-up to ask: "Are you ready?" The new suit is more reminiscent of the hero's comic book design with vibrant reds and blues. It also has a larger spider symbol on the chest than on the one we saw on Holland's spidey suits in "Spider-Man: Homecoming, "Far From Home" and "No Way Home." Are you ready? - 7.31.2026 2, 2025 The new set photos are the cherry on top of a banner week for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" news. On Friday, we learned that Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner and his mean-green alter ego, The Hul,k in the film. The move had been rumored for some time, but it only solidified as the script took shape and production prepared to get underway this month. Also on the call sheet is "Better Call Saul" star Michael Mando, who will be reprising the role of Scorpion, the villain he first played in 2017's "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role as the vigilante known as the Punisher, whom he played in the "Daredevil" spin-off series of the same name. "Brand New Day" will also introduce "Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas of "The Bear" fame to the MCU in as-yet unknown roles. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but with "Shang-Chi" director Destin Daniel at the helm, it's bound to be one of Spidey's most action-packed adventures yet. Tom Holland tries out new Spider-Man suit in first photos from set of ‘Brand New Day'

With great power comes great responsibility. 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' officially commenced filming in Glasgow, Scotland, on Friday, Aug. 1, and fresh photos from the set have captured Tom Holland, 29, showing off his spectacular new Spider-Man suit. Although details from the fourth web-slinging installment are scarce, Holland appears to be wearing the same homemade costume that he donned at the very end of 2021's 'Spider-Man: No Way Home.' Unlike the red-and-black suit he wore during the majority of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first three 'Spider-Man' films, or the Iron Spider suit of armor provided by Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark in 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame,' Holland's latest suit looks closer to those worn by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield during their respective stints as the witty wall-crawler. Featuring the classic red-and-blue colors from the comics, Holland's new costume appears to include raised webbing, a reimagined and bigger spider emblem on the chest and a practical web-shooter on his wrist. Holland himself teased the new costume on Instagram shortly before filming kicked off in Glasgow, and he also revealed the highly anticipated superhero flick's release date. 'Are you ready?' the 'Uncharted' actor wrote. '7.31.2026.' As for the first-ever photos from the set of 'Brand New Day,' Holland's Spidey can be seen both with and without his iconic mask while shooting a scene atop an armored vehicle. While it is unclear if it is part of the film or the 'Odyssey' actor is just being friendly, Holland was caught waving to someone out of frame with a big smile on his face. Other photos from the first day of filming caught Holland picking at a wedgie, which was most likely produced by the 'Cherry' actor jumping and swinging around in his amazing new suit. Besides showing off Holland's new costume, the pictures from the set of 'Brand New Day' revealed how the movie's crew went about transforming Scotland's largest city into Lower Manhattan. Cars and NYC taxi cabs are flipped over as the armored vehicle rolls down Franklin Street, and NYPD vehicles storm the scene while Holland's Spider-Man attempts to quell the destruction. Extras acting as NYC locals are also pictured rushing past FDNY ambulances and USPS trucks. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is set to pick up after the events of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and before those of 'Avengers: Doomsday.' While Holland, his fiancée Zendaya (Michelle 'MJ' Jones-Watson) and Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) are all returning, 'Stranger Things' star Sadie Sink and 'The Bear' actress Liza Colón-Zayas have both been confirmed to join. Plus, MCU stars Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/Punisher) and Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk) have been announced to round out the cast. 'I think there's a promise at the end of 'No Way Home,' that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland 'Spider-Man' stories, him being a proper Spider-Man,' Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, told Collider last month. 'Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with – for lack of better terms – street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events,' Feige added. Holland himself revealed the MCU's fourth 'Spider-Man' movie's title back in March during CinemaCon 2025. 'I am so sorry I can't be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie,' the actor, who was filming Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' at the time, began. 'I know we left you with a massive clip hanger at the end of 'No Way Home,' so 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That's all I can say.' 'That's all I've been allowed to say,' he joked. 'And I'm well over the hump of giving away spoilers, so don't be worried. I'm not going to do that today.' Solve the daily Crossword
