It's a tale we see told over and over all the time: someone pays for a professional vehicle restoration, but years and tens of thousands of dollars later it's still not done. A father in Oklahoma turned to his local investigative reporter after he spent over $100,000 to restore a classic 1967 Ford F100 for his son's birthday, yet after two years it's still not finished. The father wanted to give his then 14-year-old son what he always wanted for this birthday when he turns 16: a classic Ford pickup. They found the right truck, bought it, then took it to a local shop that does restorations.
While the shop set out expectations on the timetable for completion, the father figured it would take a little longer. Instead, it's taken a ridiculous amount of time and the Ford still isn't even running.
Talking with KFOR, the man said he was told all kinds of excuses about why the 1967 Ford F100 wasn't finished. One was the shop had trouble sourcing parts, which seems ridiculous since it's not exactly a rare vehicle.
With the truck in the shop's possession, the father kept getting invoices for work supposedly done. That was adding up and when the guy didn't want to keep paying, he says the shop owner threatened to have the truck Title 42'd, allowing the shop to take legal ownership of the vehicle.
In other words, they guy felt he was stuck and being coerced into spending a ton of money for nothing. That would be enough to make our blood boil, but we see this exact scenario play out all the time, all over the country, and it's infuriating.
Sadly, shops get away with this kind of behavior because customers feel intimidated and helpless. Most don't know what kind of recourse they have at their disposal. We recommend talking to a local attorney if you're facing this kind of situation.
This guy turned to an investigative reporter who fortunately took up his cause. After all, what kind of work on a '67 Ford F100 costs $115,000? It's not like they did a restomod with a Hellcat engine, new chassis, performance suspension, etc.
When the investigative reporter called the shop owner and asked about the long timeframe and astronomical cost, the owner tried to play it all off as standard for the industry. Then he played victim, saying the father was trying to turn things around on a minority female-owned shop (the guy's wife, who is a Colombian immigrant, apparently owns the shop).
Be careful where you get restoration work done and have everything spelled out in writing before you hand over the keys. Also, if a shop starts doing things you don't like, rather than ride it out you might want to consider taking your vehicle back, then find someone else.

Ford Recalls 492K Explorers over B-Pillar Trim That Might Fly Off

Ford is recalling 492,145 Explorers because of an issue that may cause the B-pillar trim to fly off while driving. The recall applies to certain Explorers from the 2016 to 2017 model years. According to recall documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford is still working on a remedy for the recall. Ford issued a recall for 492,145 vehicles with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) because of an issue that may cause the B-pillar trim to fly off while driving. According to NHTSA documents, the recall covers certain Explorers from the 2016 to 2017 model years. Recall documents show that Ford's team reviewed plant records to determine the production timeline. The affected models entered production in June 2015, with improvements made to the production line in April 2017. Michael Simari | Car and Driver According to the NHTSA documents, the issue may stem from a foam ring added to the back of the B-pillar during production. Increased outward pressure from the foam ring, combined with an inconsistent use of hand rollers during installation, means the B-pillar trim could detach while driving, potentially causing a hazard for other drivers. The documents also explain that owners may be able to see the trim separating from the top of the front doors when entering or exiting the vehicle, and/or hear wind noise rattling while driving. According to NHTSA, Ford is still working on developing a remedy for the issue. Dealer notifications took place in late May, with Ford planning to send interim owner notification letters between June 9 and June 13. Once a remedy has been developed, Ford will contact affected owners by mail and instruct them to bring their SUV to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have it fixed for free. As of May 2025, the automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the recall. Community adds form to report potholes, roadway concerns

MILLERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A Midstate borough is making it easier to report roadway concerns to the streets department. Millersburg Borough announced the initiative in a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post Thursday. 'We hear you Millersburg, our roads are pretty bad,' the borough said in the post. 'While our annual budget only allows for limited paving projects, we want to do a better job at keeping up with the potholes. To meet this goal, we've launched an electronic reporting form where residents can easily submit a road hazard.' The new form is under the Streets tab on the borough website. There, residents can report any sort of roadway hazard, including potholes, flooding, a tree or branch issue, and more. They hope to address all complaints within four business days. Ford Announces Concerning Recall of Explorer, Nearly 500,000 Affected

Over the past month, Ford has announced recalls of more than 1.5 million vehicles, with the latest recall impacting nearly 500,000 sport utility vehicles. Earlier this month, Ford revealed a recall on its F-150 Lightning, which just surpassed Tesla's Cybertruck as the best-selling electric truck on the market, according to Electrek. "Certain vehicles may have an improperly torqued nut on the ball joint which secures the front upper control arm to the knuckle assembly. An improperly torqued nut on the ball joint can result in separation of the front upper control arm from the knuckle assembly," Ford said in a statement regarding its latest recall on nearly 30,000 trucks. That announcement came just a few weeks after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed a recall from the auto manufacturer for more than one million vehicles ranging over 44 different makes and models after a software error emerged that can cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse. "Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Bronco, F-150, 2021-2024 Edge, 2023-2024 Escape, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, 2022-2024 Expedition, 2022-2025 Transit, 2021-2023 Mach-E, 2024 Ranger, Mustang, 2021-2023 Lincoln Nautilus, 2022-2024 Navigator, and 2023-2024 Corsair vehicles," the NHTSA announced. This time around the American icon is recalling one of its most popular offerings: the Explorer. Ford opened the recall on models from June 11, 2015 - April 19, 2017 after "a B-pillar trim applique that detaches while driving can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash," the company revealed. The remedy for the recall is still in the works. Dealers are expected to be notified on May 27, 2025 while the mailing of interim owner notification letters is expected to begin June 9, 2025 and is expected to be completed by June 13, Announces Concerning Recall of Explorer, Nearly 500,000 Affected first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 5, 2025
