Notre Dame Names CJ Carr Its 2025 Starting Quarterback

It's CJ Carr time.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish named the aforementioned redshirt freshman and highly-touted four-star recruit as its starting quarterback for the 2025 college football season on Tuesday. Carr beat out senior Tyler Buchner, sophomores Kenny Minchey and Anthony Rezac and freshman Blake Herbert for the starting job.
Carr appeared in just one game for the Fighting Irish in 2024. Notre Dame's quarterback room lost 2024 starter Riley Leonard to the 2025 NFL Draft, while Steve Angeli transferred to Syracuse, with whom he'll start next season.
Carr and No. 6 Notre Dame begin the 2025 season against a pair of ranked opponents, playing No. 10 Miami (FL) on the road in Week 1 and hosting No. 19 Texas A&M – whom they defeated at College Station in Week 1 of last season – in Week 2.
The Fighting Irish are coming off a 14-2 season that saw them make the College Football Playoff for the first time in four years and reach the National Championship Game.

Michigan State football's schedule ranked among the toughest in college football
Yet again, Michigan State is considered to have one of the toughest schedules in all of college football. The Spartans' 2025 schedule may lack the numerous auto-losses we saw last year (i.e. Ohio State and Oregon back-to-back), but it's still considered one of the hardest slates in America. According to Kelley Ford (who puts together the popular KFord ratings), Michigan State has a top 20 schedule in his difficulty ratings. In the KFord official preseason schedule difficulty rankings, Michigan State comes in at No. 18. Among Big Ten teams, this ranks behind only four teams: Wisconsin (No. 6), Purdue (No. 11), UCLA (No. 13) and Northwestern (No. 16). In the KFord ratings system, Ford has noted that No. 12 power-rated team would win 8.3 games against the Spartans slate. So essentially a fringe College Football Playoff caliber of team would have a hard team going better than 8-4 with the Michigan State 2025 schedule. That's pretty alarming for the Spartans, who are much closer to being a fringe bowl team than a College Football Playoff team. The Spartans' schedule features numerous tough games, including road trips to USC, Nebraska, Indiana and Iowa. Additionally, the Spartans play host to Michigan and Penn State, who are both preseason top 25 teams. 2025 Tour Championship first-round marquee pairings, tee times, where to watch Thursday
The 2025 Tour Championship features the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup Playoffs standings and for the second week in a row, the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked players will be in the final group the first day. Scottie Scheffler, who won last week's BMW Championship, will be paired with three-time FedEx Cup champ Rory McIlroy. That is the marquee group at East Lake for Thursday's first round, but there are other duos that will be worth keeping an eye on. Marquee groups for the 2025 Tour Championship So far, only the first day's tee times have been released. Some interesting pairings include: The Scheffler/McIlroy duo hits the first tee at 2 p.m. ET. For as great as Ryan Day has been since taking over for Urban Meyer at Ohio State, his record vs. Michigan in The Game continues to haunt him. The Buckeyes are riding a four-game losing skid to The Team Up North — which had largely ruined OSU's national championship hopes up until last year. With the recent expansion of the College Football Playoff, Ohio State was afforded the opportunity to still compete for its first national title under Day despite its two regular season losses — and the program might've been better off for it. OSU curb stomped its way to the CFP Final where they ultimately proved to be too much for Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. But that still hasn't stopped fans in Ann Arbor from letting the Bucks coach know about how poorly his team has performed against Big Blue. This last one was arguably the worst considering that Michigan was barely over .500 when they found a way to go into Columbus and plant the UM flag (and keep in mind Day lost to a Wolverines team that didn't even have its coach on the sideline in 2023). Michigan reporter keeps it real After an Ohio State fan posted to X that: "It's on Ryan Day to send Michigan to hell, and to be honest, I want it that way," longtime Michigan reporter Jordan Strack put last season's loss into (savage) perspective for the OSU alum. "lol. Ryan Day was a 3 touchdown favorite - with a $20 million roster- facing a walk-on quarterback - and a Michigan team who couldn't complete a forward pass on his home STILL LOST," the former WTOL sports director replied. To the Buckeyes credit, they responded to the loss about as well as they possibly could've. But its still not going to be pretty if Ohio State suffers a fifth-straight loss to the Wolverines under Day come Nov. 29.
