Those are the thoughts of BBC Radio Stoke commentator Mark Elliott following the end of Stoke City's season, which saw the Potters finish 18th and avoid relegation by just two points.
He joins presenter Lucas Yeomans on the latest episode of A Cold Wet Tuesday Night to review Stoke's campaign, discuss the squad and what might be needed to improve next season.

Sheffield Wednesday's return to Hillsborough for the first time this season after a summer of financial disarray as they welcome Stoke City on Saturday (15:00 BST). After beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 in their last league meeting in April, Stoke City could win successive league matches against the Owls for the first time since winning three in a row between 1969 and 1984. Sheffield Wednesday have lost their opening home game in just one of the last 11 league campaigns (W5 D5), with that defeat coming against Southampton in 2023-24 (1-2). Stoke have failed to win their opening away game in any of the last 17 league campaigns (D7 L10), failing to score in each of the last five. Indeed, Stoke last won their first away league game in a season back in 2007-08 in the Championship (1-0 v Cardiff). Sheffield Wednesday's Barry Bannan was sent off v Leicester on MD1, since his debut for the Owls in September 2015, the club holds a 40.7% win-rate when he's featured in league matches compared to 31.2% without.

Arsenal learn u18 Premier League Cup group stage draw
The Arsenal u18s have learned their group stage draw for the u18 Premier League Cup in 2025/26, with the competition kicking off this month. Photo via Arsenal have confirmed that they're due to face Peterborough United, Stoke City, and Norwich City in this season's u18 Premier League Cup group stage, playing Peterborough at home and the other two games away. The group stage is always competitive, with only the top team guaranteed a spot in the knockouts. Unless you win all three matches, qualification can end up out of your hands. The competition kicks off in August, with Arsenal hosting Peterborough on Tuesday, August 26th. The young Gunners will then travel to Stoke on Saturday, October 4th, before wrapping up the group stage away to Norwich on Saturday, November 22nd. The u16 Premier League Cup mirrors the u18 competition, so they'll play the same group stage matches. Pedersen hopes Sheff Wed can add to squad this week
Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen expects to add reinforcements to his threadbare squad before Saturday's first league fixture at Hillsborough against Stoke City. The Owls lost their Championship opener against Leicester City on Sunday following a pre-season dominated by ongoing uncertainty over their ownership, finances and having to operate under a transfer embargo. But with the club settling outstanding debts last Friday, Pedersen has been given the green light to make much needed additions to a squad down the bare bones just one week in. "We have to hurry up but we also have to be a bit patient because we need the right players who can help us not only for three months or six months but can help us through the whole season," he told BBC Radio Sheffield. "We are doing all that we can in the background to be prepared to do something quickly. "I hope that we have maybe one or two players before the next league game because otherwise we will have only 12 senior players so I hope we can do something." Pedersen admitted Wednesday, who used 50 per cent of their Solidarity Payment from the Premier League to settle outstanding debts last Friday, have as many as 60 players in their sights. Experienced defensive duo Ben Mee and Liam Cooper and Manchester United academy products Harry Amass and Toby Collyer are thought to be of interest to the South Yorkshire club. To compound the situation Pedersen will be without midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah against Stoke after he sustained a hamstring injury in the defeat at Leicester. Barry Bannan, who received a one match ban for his red card against Leicester City, will miss Wednesday's Carabao Cup first round tie at Bolton but is available for the visit of the Potters this weekend. Pedersen, who took over at the start of the month following Danny Rohl's departure by mutual consent, believes his over-stretched squad with six academy players on the bench, showed character at the King Power Stadium. "I think there were many people that did not have many expectations because they know it is a difficult situation. But they saw how the boys work together today also in difficult [circumstances]," he added. "This is the base for Sheffield Wednesday. We are a working team who stay together when it's difficult."
