Pensioner faces court after extradition from Bulgaria on sex abuse charges

Yahoo3 days ago
A pensioner extradited to Northern Ireland from Bulgaria on sex abuse charges has been remanded into custody.
David Wilson, 77, with an address given as Slane Road, Carnlough, appeared before Antrim Magistrates' Court on Thursday afternoon.
He is facing 18 charges, including of indecent assault and rape in the County Antrim area in the 1970s and 1980s.
Earlier, police said the man was arrested in Bulgaria on June 10 2025 before being returned to Northern Ireland on Thursday.
At court, a police officer said they were opposing bail.
'Mr Wilson was conveyed from London last night into the custody of the PSNI, and then brought before the court today on foot of that warrant,' they said.
A defence lawyer said there would not be an application for bail.
'Obviously he has been arrested in Bulgaria and brought here, he has no access to any family, he has been there for 19 years, no access to any money or anything of that nature,' he said.
Wilson was remanded to custody.
He is next to appear before the court on August 14.

FBI agent found guilty of raping three women inside of his secret tattoo parlor

An FBI agent was found guilty of raping three women after luring them into his tattoo shop by promising them free tattoos and modeling contracts, officials said. FBI supervisor Eduardo Valdivia, 41, ran secret tattoo parlors under the names Lalo Brown and El Boogie when he wasn't at his day job, prosecutors said. The agent used fake names and the Instagram account DC Fine Line Tattoos to lure women into the shop, promising them modeling contracts before filming himself sexually assaulting them, prosecutors said, according to NBC 4 Washington. After filming the assaults, Valdivia, who joined the FBI in 2011, would then use the fake modeling contacts as blackmail to get the women to return. Valdivia, a married father of three children, sat expressionless as the jury announced he was guilty on all counts on Friday, according to the Washington Post. He could spend decades in prison for the charges. Former FBI supervisor Eduardo Valdivia ran secret tattoo parlors and lured women into his shop by promising them free tattoos and modeling contracts, officials said. (Montgomery County Police Department) While in court, Valdivia took the stand and claimed his encounters with the women were consensual. However, he later admitted to hiding evidence after learning that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Valdivia said that he threw away a box of condoms and wiped his laptop and memory card, which held photos and videos of himself having sex with the women. Valdivia also told the courtroom that he never told the FBI about the tattoo parlors. He had been suspended by the bureau. The former agent holds degrees in Spanish literature and public health and helped oversee public health clinics around the country before joining the FBI in 2011, according to court documents. It's the second time within a matter of years that Valdivia went on trial for felony counts in Montgomery County. In 2020, he was charged with attempted murder for shooting a man on a Metro train. Prosecutors said the man was asking for money and walked away, cursing, prompting Valdivia to tell him to watch his mouth. Tensions between the two rose, and Valdivia shot the man twice. Valdivia, however, testified at the time that he felt threatened. A jury found him not guilty on all counts. After deliberating about three hours, a jury found him guilty of four counts of second-degree rape and two counts of fourth-degree sexual offense. He is set to be sentenced on October 14. Bulgarian authorities seize a large amount of cocaine hidden in a van

Bulgaria Cocaine Haul SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) — Bulgarian border authorities said Sunday they have seized one of the largest hauls of cocaine from a Belgian-plated van en route to Turkey. According to customs officials, the nearly 206 kilograms (453 pounds) of cocaine was the largest seizure at Bulgaria's land border. A vehicle inspection led to the discovery of the drugs valued at 20 million euros ($22 million). The drugs were hidden in 179 sealed bags stashed among personal belongings in five suitcases. Haskovo District Prosecutor Ivan Stoyanov identified the three people attempting to cross the border into Turkey as a 40-year-old diplomat from the Democratic Republic of Congo accredited in Belgium, a 54-year-old Belgian citizen and a 43-year-old Bulgarian driver. Stoyanov told reporters that they could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted on drug trafficking charges. An investigation has been launched together with partner organizations in other EU countries into the origins of the cocaine and its final recipients. Bulgaria, which has taken steps in recent years against drug trafficking, is considered a transit point on the Balkan drug-trafficking route, which is used to supply Western Europe with heroin from Asia and the Middle East, and with cocaine from Latin America.
