Police Step Up Security For Rafizi, Family After Son's Attack
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar, however, declined to provide further details on the security arrangements to avoid compromising operations.
'There are measures in place, but I cannot disclose them as it would reveal what the security team is doing… police will carry out the necessary protection,' he told a press conference on the incident here today.
Shazeli said six individuals had been called to give statements, including Rafizi, his wife and his son, as well as other related parties.
When asked, he said it was too early to determine whether the attack was politically motivated until a more complete investigation is available.
'Alhamdulillah, our initial investigation through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage has given us some leads and assistance. We are reviewing not only the footage from the shopping mall premises but also from outside the location.
'The public is advised not to make any speculation or assumptions that could cause unrest or provoke uncontrolled reactions,' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), Section 324 and Section 352 of the Penal Code.
In a statement yesterday, Rafizi confirmed the victim was his son and that during the incident, two male suspects on a motorcycle, dressed in black and wearing helmets had tailed his wife's car.
The former Economy Minister said one of them suddenly grabbed his son and stabbed him with a syringe.

Extreme attitudes and arrogance as well as discriminatory behaviour based on race, lineage or skin colour, must be stopped immediately, the Prime Minister declared, adding that he has directed government agencies to take firm action. 'I have given clear instructions to enforcement bodies: if there are any elements – whether prominent figures, politicians, community leaders or ordinary citizens – engaged in threats or incitement, take action. 'The country's safety and peace must be preserved, regardless of race, religion, wealth or status.' Recent incidents, including cases of racial and religious tensions, bullying in schools and workplaces, and the deaths of students, have all been worrying. These instances, he said, must be properly addressed by enforcement bodies, educators, parents and the public. Retiree loses over RM460,000 in investment and legal service scams
JOHOR BARU: A retired teacher was not only deceived by a non-existent investment scheme, but the elderly woman also fell victim to a legal service scam, resulting in losses amounting to RM467,237. Johor Baru Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said police received a report from the 60-year-old woman today. He said the victim stated that the incident began on June 17 after she saw an investment advertisement on Facebook while at her home in Ulu Tiram. "The investment promised extraordinary returns of up to 94 per cent within a day. "Enticed by the lucrative offer, the victim contacted the phone number displayed and was then added to a WhatsApp group that supposedly provided guidance on stock trading. "Over nine days between June 17 and 26, the victim made 20 transactions totalling RM286,337 into several bank accounts belonging to different local individuals. "However, every time the victim attempted to withdraw her profits, the suspect gave various excuses and requested additional payments, until the victim realised she had been deceived," he said in a statement here yesterday. Raub said the victim later sought legal services to help recover the funds, after coming across another advertisement on Facebook. He said the victim then contacted an individual who claimed to represent a law firm and was added to another WhatsApp group. "The victim was taught how to recover her money but was asked to make payments for legal matters. "Between July 4 and Aug 2, the victim made seven transactions amounting to RM180,900 into seven different accounts as payment for the legal process. "The victim continued to be asked for more payments until she realised she was being scammed. "Police checks found that the 23 accounts involved had a total of 24 prior fraud records," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
