Oman: IBAN Mandatory For All Domestic Transactions From July 1
To enhance the efficiency and security of financial transactions, the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has announced the go-live date for implementing the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) on domestic financial transactions, from July 1, 2025. This expansion will enhance the efficiency of local payment transactions, minimize operational errors, and expedite financial transfers between individuals and businesses. It will also improve the customer experience by ensuring faster and secure banking transactions.
CBO implemented the IBAN system for international transfers on March 31, 2024, which significantly improved transaction accuracy, reduced errors, and accelerated processing times for both local and international bank transfers. Given the success of this implementation, CBO said it is taking the next step by discontinuing the acceptance of international transfers that do not include an IBAN.
CBO has issued directives to local banks to stop receiving cross-border transfers that do not include IBAN, as of 1st July 2025. Instead, the use of the IBAN Number will be mandatory for all incoming international transactions. Banks have been guided to implement awareness campaigns for their customers on the importance of using IBAN and its benefits.
It was also stressed the need to provide the necessary guidelines to ensure a safer and faster banking experience.
The Central Bank of Oman urges all customers to ensure they obtain their IBAN from their local banks and to use it in all financial transfers to ensure smooth transaction processing.

Strengthening diplomatic cooperation in labour affairs
The Chief Executive of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, Mr Nabras Taleb, stressed the value of continued cooperation with embassies and consulates of labour-sending countries in supporting a well-ordered and lawful work environment in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He made the remarks during a meeting with diplomatic representatives held as part of the LMRA Majlis, timed with International Workers' Day. The discussions centred on the importance of strengthening coordination in labour affairs, ensuring that foreign workers are fully informed of the country's legal framework, and verifying that they are engaged in permitted activities under valid work permits. Measures Mr Taleb presented a number of recent measures adopted by the Authority, including the requirement for all employers to pay workers electronically through the Wage Protection System. This mechanism is designed to ensure that salaries are paid on schedule and to help reduce pay-related disagreements. He also confirmed that all expatriate workers will be issued an International Bank Account Number (IBAN) either on arrival at Bahrain International Airport or when renewing their work permit, should they not already have one.

LMRA CEO Receives Omani Delegation to Discuss Anti-Human Trafficking Efforts
Manama: Nibras Talib, CEO of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, received an Omani delegation led by Dr. Ahmed bin Talib Al Jabri, Deputy Chairman of Oman's National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. The meeting reviewed Bahrain's efforts in combating human trafficking and enhancing the labour environment to support market stability. According to Bahrain News Agency, the CEO highlighted the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Bahrain and Oman during His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's state visit to Oman. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in anti-trafficking efforts, enhance national capacities through knowledge exchange, and coordinate training programmes. He outlined Bahrain's initiatives, including introducing International Bank Account Numbers (IBAN) for expatriate workers, developing the Wage Protection System, and establishing the National Referral System, which links government and non-government entities to streamline anti-trafficking efforts. The Omani delegation toured the Expat Protection Centre, the first comprehensive facility of its kind in the Middle East, offering preventive, legal, and shelter services for trafficking victims. They also visited the Regional Training Centre for capacity-building on anti-human trafficking. The CEO emphasised Bahrain's readiness to share expertise, provide training, and support Oman and other Gulf countries in combating human trafficking. The Omani delegation commended Bahrain's achievements and expressed interest in further cooperation and knowledge exchange.
