London: BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya pays floral tribute to Rabindranath Tagore statue
London [UK], June 1 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Samik Bhattacharya, member of all-party delegation led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, paid floral tribute to the statue of Rabindranath Tagore at the Tagore Centre.
This visit is a part of Modi government's big diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor stressed that India is ready and has the capability to fight terrorism on its own.
Speaking to ANI, Bhattacharya emphasised Rabindranath Tagore's continued relevance in today's world and said, 'Rabindranath was relevant during his lifetime and so is he today. He shall also remain relevant in the future.'
'Some nations in the world sometimes change their stand to either sell their weapons, establish their hegemony or interfere with the market, and take a stand which is against humanity,' he added.
The delegation, arrived in London on Saturday (local time) as part of India's global outreach program to convey the country's firm stance against terrorism.
The delegation landed in the United Kingdom after completing visits to France, Italy, and Denmark, where they engaged with government officials, diaspora, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.
Upon their arrival, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'We are here in London. We will keep our stance on terrorism effectively, here. We believe that we will get that support here as well, the way we have received the support in those three countries.'
The delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad and consists of Daggubati Purandeswari of TDP, Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena-UBT, Ghulam Ali Khatana of BJP, Dr. Amar Singh of Congress, Samik Bhattacharya of BJP, former Union Minister MJ Akbar and Ambassador Pankaj Saran.
In a diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, the Modi government has formed seven multi-party delegations to inform nations about Pakistan's links to terrorism and India's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pak-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. 'Baseless': EC insiders dismiss Rahul's claim on Maharashtra poll rigging
New Delhi: The political storm stirred by Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over alleged irregularities in Maharashtra electoral rolls was dismissed as 'baseless' by an Election Commission source on Saturday. 'The Maharashtra electoral roll revision process was undertaken under the full glare of 1,03,727 Booth Level Agents appointed by the political parties, including 27,099 BLAs by the Indian National Congress (INC) themselves,' said an official source, claiming that there was no basis for the Congress leader to insinuate vitiation of the electoral process. According to the Election Commission's elaborate procedure on the updating of electoral rolls, any deletion and addition is done strictly as per the given framework under Article 324 of the Constitution and the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Registration of the Electors Rules, 1960 and the extant instructions issued by the Commission from time to time Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in an article published in a national daily, alleged "match-fixing" by the BJP in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. His article ignited a political controversy, with opposition parties claiming that it exposes the alleged scale of electoral manipulation in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections and points to the Election Commission's "silence" on critical questions raised by the opposition alliance. Election Commission sources, however, disagreed with Rahul Gandhi's claim and questioned why no appeals were filed in case the allegations about manipulation carried any weight. After the finalisation of these electoral rolls during the Maharashtra elections, out of 9,77,90,752 electors, only 89 appeals were filed before the first appellate authority (District Magistrate) under Section 24(A) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, said a source. Only one appeal was preferred before the second appellate authority (Chief Electoral Officer) under Section 24(B) of the same Act, he said. To counter Rahul Gandhi's attack on alleged election rigging, BJP leader Amit Malviya on Saturday posted on social media a news clip headlined: 'Misleading', 'baseless', says EC, rejects Congress' claims on Maharashtra voter lists. The EC said there was no irregular pattern in voter deletions in the state and rule-based process was followed with transparency in preparation of the electoral rolls, according to the clip.

During a community event with the Indian diaspora in Berlin, Prasad highlighted India's remarkable progress in IT, space, and digital transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, contrasting it with Pakistan's repeated failures in wars while referring to the repeated incidents of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and the military's dominant role in the country's politics. "India and Pakistan were born the same day. Where are we in India, and where are they (Pakistan)? India has become a major global IT power in the world. India has become an emerging space power in the world. The startup movements here are now globally recognised. India has also become the second biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. We have brought digital transformation with equity and justice," Prasad said. "What Pakistan is doing is creating terror machines. How to create world-class terrorists under their (military) Generals. They attacked us four times and lost every time. We never attacked; they were the ones who always started the war. It is because they are under the control of Generals and not political leaders. Generals want conflict to keep themselves relevant, and terrorists are the instruments through which they execute. Wherever there is a terrorist, either he is a Pakistani or trained in Pakistan," he added. He emphasised India's economic achievements, including a 51 per cent share of global digital payments and its status as the second-largest mobile manufacturer, attributing this to PM Modi's 2014 vision of "IT+IT=IT" (Information Technology + India's Talent = India Tomorrow). "Prime Minister Narendra Modi used to say in 2014 that if he became the PM, he would make an India where IT+IT=IT, which means Information Technology + India's Talent = India Tomorrow. Digital payment in India is at 51 per cent of the world," the BJP MP stated. Prasad also spoke about the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India's decisive response through Operation Sindoor on May 7, noting that Operation Sindoor remains paused but ready to resume based on Pakistan's actions. "Pahalgam attack happened on April 22. We attacked on May 7 and hit the terrorist camps. If Pakistan has to talk, it must directly speak to us. Our message was stern and straight: If you stop, we stop. If you fire, we will give a stronger reply. Operation Sindoor is on pause, subject to the good behaviour of Pakistan. It has not ended," he stated. Centre deliberately denying funds to T.N., says TNCC president
The Union Government is deliberately denying funds to Tamil Nadu, said K. Selvaperunthagai, president of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee here on Saturday. The Centre was acting in a partisan manner even in sanctioning disaster relief funds and all the funds are getting diverted to the BJP-ruled States. The Centre was resorting to the tactics of denying funds to opposition-ruled States and thereby diverting those funds to the BJP-ruled States, he said. Accusing the Centre of treating the non-BJP ruled States in a step-motherly manner, he said that be it GST or the ₹2,500 crore aid due to the State School Education Department, the Centre was acting with an intention. On Amit Shah taking part in Lord Muruga conference at Madurai, he wondered how is it different from the recent one that was conducted at Palani in Dindigul district and dubbed these tactics as cheap politics aimed at keeping people in constant fear. On the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats, he said that the BJP is reducing the constituencies in the South and increasing it in the North so that all the political decisions can be taken with the help of North Indian MPs.
