Eat Vermont app serves up local flavor with AI-powered perks
BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22 FOX44) — 'Food-preneur' Senator Rocket launched Eat Vermont with one goal— to create a tight knit community bonded over their favorite local bites. He says the mobile app, which originally started as a side project to go along with his Instagram, now has about 5,000 downloads since it launched this year.
'This is a way of creating another layer of engagement and really feeling like you're an insider in the food scene,' said the app's creator.
Eat Vermont allows users to access a comprehensive list of restaurants and their current menus, create customizable 'food trails,' view video content and use location specific search tools— including an AI chatbot called Evie.
'We've spent a lot of time using AI to make sure that we can adapt to the user specifically,' said Rocket, 'so you can put your dietary preferences into the app, and it'll help you identify better fits.'
The founder says he is most excited about the launch of new 'member perks,' which will feature access to secret menu items and special discounts at some restaurants.
'What we're asking for at Eat Vermont, is for the restaurant owners and the chefs to be creative and to give us the real authentic dishes, or to give it their creative flair— things that would be a little experimental that they wouldn't normally put on their menu,' he said.
Arwa Dawman, the owner of Zaytoona, a Burlington-based middle eastern restaurant, says she was eager to connect with Rocket. Eat Vermont and Rocket's 33,000 followers on Instagram, she says, have helped draw in business.
'Diversity is not that known, so having that platform that has a sense of genuineness and a sense of community is very important as a new small business.'
Dawman says she and her staff are excited about the possibility of a secret menu and will start offering a 10% dinner-time discount.
Memberships, which are used to fund the app, cost about $8 per month. Rocket says people can also use a free version to see local events.

Lululemon rival facing $150 million lawsuit (blame influencers)
After months of seeing the same brand pop up again and again on Instagram, I finally caved. Everyone from fitness influencers to lifestyle creators seemed to be wearing the same sleek sweatpants and cropped sweatshirt set. I wanted in. I didn't just stumble upon it - I made a special trip to the store just to try it on. The influencers had done their job: I already felt like I needed it. At first, it lived up to the hype. The fabric was buttery soft, and I found myself reaching for it constantly. Related: Lululemon's latest viral product reveals something much bigger But after one wash, the magic faded. The softness disappeared, replaced by an average feel that left me a little disappointed. I still wear the set because it's cute (and let's be honest, I paid a premium for it), but it no longer feels like heaven against my skin. Now? It's just... meh. Experiences like mine aren't uncommon in the influencer era. But now, one popular yoga brand is facing more than just a few dissatisfied customers. A newly filed $150 million class action lawsuit accuses the company (and more than a dozen influencers) of misleading consumers through undisclosed paid endorsements. The message? Trust is expensive. And this brand may soon learn that the hard way. Image source: Koerner/Getty Images Turns out, I'm not the only one rethinking that hype-driven purchase. The lawsuit, filed last week, targets none other than Alo Yoga. Plaintiffs argue Alo's rise was fueled by influencers blurring the line between paid promo and personal praise. Personally, I call it sexy deception. The 38-page complaint alleges Alo has built its brand and customer base primarily through social media marketing, according to Lexology, Roughly 90% of the company's revenue is attributed to online sales and its Alo Moves platform-and much of that success, plaintiffs claim, comes from influencer promotions that misrepresent paid endorsements as authentic, unpaid opinions. Related: Nike's house is not in order, and customers may pay the price Plaintiffs say they purchased Alo products after seeing Instagram posts from influencers they trusted. The posts included glowing endorsements and tagged Alo products-but allegedly lacked the legally required material connection disclosures. The plaintiffs argue that they paid a premium based on the perceived impartiality of these influencers, only to later feel misled about the true value of the products. In short: this isn't some slap-on-the-wrist lawsuit. If the plaintiffs succeed, Alo and its influencers could be on the hook for more than $150 million-and a big chunk of their brand equity. This lawsuit is more than a legal headache - it's a gut punch to Alo's brand image. It's also a huge flashing red warning sign for every influencer-heavy brand out there. Transparency in influencer marketing isn't just an ethical best practice, it's a legal requirement. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) mandates clear, conspicuous disclosures of material connections between brands and influencers. Anything less can open the door to lawsuits, regulatory fines, and loss of consumer trust. And let's be real: too many brands (and influencers) still play fast and loose with those pesky disclosure rules. In the relentless pursuit of growth, the temptation to make paid content feel "organic" is strong. But as this case shows, the legal and reputational costs of cutting corners can be enormous. This case isn't an outlier. It's a preview. Brands should take note: clear disclosures don't have to ruin the authenticity of influencer content. In fact, they can enhance it-building credibility with increasingly savvy audiences. Failing to do so, however, risks turning a viral marketing win into a $150 million cautionary tale. As class actions targeting influencer marketing continue to rise, the message to brands is simple: get your house in order, or brace for the kind of backlash money can't fix. Dad Makes Baby Girl 'Apologize' to Every Passenger After 8-Hour Flight
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A family has gone viral after playfully getting their baby daughter to "apologize" to passengers after a long-haul flight. Hannah Chestnut, originally from London in the UK, and her husband Joseph, from Ohio, are proud parents to five-month-old twin baby girls, which can make family life slightly chaotic. Despite this, Chestnut told Newsweek: "We've decided we're going to travel with them and not be deterred by the fact that we have young babies." Traveling with babies can be stressful for the parents, but after a recent trip with their daughters, Chestnut captured a sweet moment between her husband, daughter Ava, and the other passengers—as the baby girl apologized "face-to-face" to her fellow travelers. Instagram @themumcrew Posted to Chestnut's Instagram page @themumcrew on May 28, the video showed Joseph holding Ava, dressed all in pink and with a grin on her face, as passengers disembarked the eight-hour flight from London to Atlanta. Ava faces the queue leaving the aircraft, as some of them shoot smiles back at her, with Chestnut writing over the clip: "We told her she had to apologize to everyone face-to-face for what she put them through on the flight." The sweet video racked up more than 67,000 likes, as one commenter joked: "She look at everyone like 'and I'll do it again. Watch this.'" No. She just smiled that gummy little heart-melting smile and everyone just forgave her." And one recalled a story from when her own daughter was a toddler, and once "tried to take a bite out of a stranger's burger on our flight to Cancun. Still amazed at how gracious our fellow passengers were!" Chestnut explained to Newsweek that on this particular flight, their daughters had not been "too fussy," but while waiting for their stroller and car seats "Ava kept smiling at all the other passengers as they got off the plane. So I decided to film it as her apologizing to all of them." She added: "Ironically, on the flight right after the one we got off of in the video, Ava was super loud and upset, so that was the flight we actually should've filmed the video after!" While flying with babies can be difficult, there are things parents can do to help it go as smoothly as possible. Booking an evening flight can increase the chance of the baby sleeping through the journey, and opting for longer layover times between connecting flights can help the baby or young child expend energy before the next flight, according to Pampers. Instagram @themumcrew Sharing a sweet detail about her family of four, Chestnut revealed she and her husband were born on the very same day in 1992, "on opposite sides of the Atlantic, only hours apart." "And then 32 years later we had twins, which means our family of four only has two birthdays between all of us." Reacting to the huge online response to her video, she added: "It's been so fun to see the video go viral, and we never expected such a silly moment to reach so many people so quickly."
