Eid-ul-Adha 2025: Bangladesh confirms 10-day festive holidays ahead of crescent moon sighting of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH
In a move that is set to bring smiles across the nation, the Advisory Council of the interim government has approved a generous 10-day public holiday, giving citizens ample time to unwind, reconnect and celebrate. While the exact date of Eid is dependent on the sighting of the moon, all signs point to Saturday, June 07, as the likely day of celebration.
With Friday, June 06 also part of the weekend, this sets the stage for a naturally extended break. If Eid-ul-Adha does fall on June 07, 2025, then the festive window from June 06 to 08 already includes two weekend days —perfect for planning family getaways, traditional festivities or just some well-earned rest but the real treat?
The official Eid-ul-Adha holidays will begin on June 05 and stretch all the way to June 14, thanks to a cabinet decision confirmed during a meeting on May 06, 2025. Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, took to his verified Facebook page to share the news, writing:
'There will be a 10-day Eid-ul-Adha holiday, according to a Cabinet decision. Offices will be open on Saturdays on May 17 and May 24.'
To make up for the extended break, government offices will remain open on two designated Saturdays in May — a small trade-off for such a luxurious holiday span.
The 10-day vacation applies to government offices only. Banks and private sector companies will observe their own schedules, with financial institutions adhering to the Bank Company Act 1991 and private employers deciding based on internal policies.
The announcement was made during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, where Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul and Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also confirmed that the cabinet had approved the Cyber Protection Ordinance 2025 — a notable addition to the meeting agenda that blends forward-thinking policy with traditional holiday planning.
As the summer heat sets in, this extended Eid-ul-Adha break is a welcome chance for Bangladeshis to pause and indulge in both spiritual reflection and leisurely celebration. Industry voices caution that many renewable projects are being commissioned without adequate inspection at critical stages. "Even minor flaws during equipment manufacturing or installation can escalate into serious operational and financial issues," said Arif Aga, Director at SgurrEnergy . "However, these problems often surface only after the project is operational, and at that stage, the cost of correction is far higher." India has established technical standards such as BIS, IEC, and UL for renewable energy components. However, inspections to verify compliance, especially for smaller or off-grid systems, are often overlooked or insufficiently detailed. This not only causes quality lapses in project execution but also dampens investor confidence. Arif Aga highlights that "Independent third-party inspections are increasingly being viewed as a key solution. When carried out across multiple stages from factory acceptance to delivery and final commissioning they help detect issues early, ensure alignment with global standards, and significantly reduce project risk. Such inspections are crucial across the board from utility-scale developments to rooftop and rural systems. Early-stage quality checks not only prevent delays and reduce financial losses but also boost the sector's overall credibility". SgurrEnergy also holds the accreditation of 17020 for inspection of photovoltaic (PV) modules. As India races to scale its renewable capacity, experts agree that maintaining quality must go hand-in-hand with speed. Arif Aga and other industry leaders project independent inspections as essential for ensuring both the performance and sustainability of clean energy projects.

1 2 Kolkata/Bolpur: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday presented enrolment on the voters' list as a common shield against harassment of Bengali migrant workers in BJP-governed states and the special intensive revision of poll rolls, two potential problems facing TMC and a portion of the state's residents in the run-up to the 2026 assembly poll. "Enrolment in electoral rolls is going to be one's biggest shield in future," she said at a state administration programme in Birbhum's Illambazar, urging migrants working outside to return home at least once to get themselves on the voters' list. Banerjee also focused on students who were turning 18, telling them as well that voter enrolment was going to be their biggest protection, as well as "minority brothers and sisters who work outside". T he issue of Bengali migrants being put in detention centres in BJP-governed states has also reached Calcutta High Court, prompting judges to ask probing questions. "The torture is taking place under MHA directives. Bengalis are being persecuted and harassed across BJP-governed states. Many people went there for work long ago before Trinamool came to office. Some have been working there for more than 20-25 years. They are being put in detention camps despite having Aadhaar, PAN and land deeds; they are being taken from one police station to another," she said, asking them to return home. "There is no shortage of jobs. They can work here. We will facilitate their travel, arrange for their employment under Karmashree and get school admissions done for their children. The Deucha Pachami project in this district alone will generate 1 lakh jobs," she said. Banerjee, singling out Assam for sending NRC notices to people staying in Bengal, said govt of the neighbouring state should be ashamed. "Bengal does not need anyone's mercy to survive. Your party (BJP) was not even there during the freedom struggle. Where were you when Bengali stalwarts were fighting for Independence? We will not tolerate this linguistic torture. We will not tolerate any torture inflicted on the language of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. The people of Bengal will not tolerate you and your torture," the CM said, slamming central human rights agencies for ignoring the ongoing abuse. "How many commissions have visited states where Bengali-speaking people have been subjected to atrocities? Then, there is only omission and no commission," Banerjee said.
