The bookmakers' favourite to become the next Cardiff City manager, Ian Evatt, has revealed he has received job offers and is "ready to go again".
The former Blackpool defender has been out of work since he left Bolton Wanderers at the start of the year following a successful stint with the Trotters.

Cardiff are on the lookout for Omer Riza's permanent successor, after he was sacked with three games to go. Cardiff, of course, were ultimately unable to avoid the drop to League One.

It is understood that a shortlist has been drawn up with a number of candidates having been spoken to. Evatt currently leads the bookies' list, ahead of Des Buckingham, the former Oxford United manager. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community
Speaking about a potential return to management amid links to the Cardiff job, Evatt told the Blackpool Gazette: 'It's the first time in 27 years that I've had a break from football, I went straight from playing to being a manager.
'I've been a manager for seven years, and at one club for five - that takes some doing in modern day football.

'I was ready for a rest, and I've really enjoyed the break, but I'm starting to get itchy feet again and thinking about what comes next.
'I've had some offers that I've turned down, and didn't feel was quite right for me at that moment, but there's things happening all of the time. I'll wait and be patient, and try to pick the right option.
'When you're in the game, it's 24 hours a day and it's hard to gain perspective on what you've achieved, and also to grow and improve - and spend time thinking about what went well and what didn't go well.

'I've had a lot of success in seven years: I've had promotions, I've won trophies, I think I've got the highest win ratio of any Bolton manager post-war, so I've done a lot so far, but the last few months have been helpful for me and I'm ready to go again.'
The former defender, 43, transitioned from a successful playing career to management, making significant impacts at both Barrow and Bolton.
Evatt began his managerial journey with Barrow in 2018, leading them to promotion to the English Football League in the 2019/20 season — the club's first in 48 years. His attacking philosophy earned the team the nickname "Barrowcelona."

In July 2020, Evatt took the helm at Bolton, then struggling in League Two and secured automatic promotion in his first season.
Under his guidance, Bolton won the EFL Trophy in 2023 with a 4–0 victory over Plymouth Argyle at Wembley. He also led the team to the League One play-off final in the 2023/24 season.
Over his tenure at Bolton, Evatt managed 261 games, achieving 132 wins, 52 draws, and 77 losses — a win rate of approximately 50%. His tenure concluded in January 2025 following some underwhelming performances. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Clear Cardiff City manager favourite emerges after double setback

Clear Cardiff City manager favourite emerges after double setback The Bluebirds are yet to appoint a new permanent manager after sacking Omer Riza nearly two months ago Buckingham is now the clear favourite to take the Cardiff job Des Buckingham is now the odds-on favourite to take the Cardiff City job as the end of the club's manager search saga draws nearer. The Bluebirds are still in the hunt for a permanent successor to Omer Riza since he was dismissed in the closing stages of last season, as the club were relegated to League One. A shortlist, using the help of an external agency, was drawn up for Vincent Tan's consideration, but nearly eight weeks on from Riza's departure and with pre-season getting under way next month, an appointment is yet to be made. ‌ After Nathan Jones signed a new long-term deal with Charlton to end speculation linking him with the Cardiff job, midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who took charge of the team as interim manager for the final three matches of their dismal Championship campaign, looked likely to take up the reins at his boyhood club on a permanent basis. ‌ However, in bombshell news over the weekend, it was reported that Ramsey will now up sticks and move to Mexico to join Liga MX side Pumas, with the Wales legend "ready for a new chapter" across the Atlantic, according to the Press Association transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. An announcement regarding the Bluebirds' new boss was due at the start of the week, but, in the wake of the double setback, that didn't happen. However, there now finally looks to be light at the end of the tunnel with former Oxford United boss Buckingham emerging as the clear favourite for the job. The 40-year-old is now priced as 8/13 favourite by BetVictor, ahead of Leicester City coach Brian Barry-Murphy (6/5) and ex-Bolton boss Ian Evatt (6/1). Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community Article continues below Buckingham, who has been out of work since being sacked by Oxford in December, was riding high in the bookies' odds for the Cardiff job around a month ago and is back in pole position with Jones and Ramsey now off the table. Having led the Us to League One promotion last year, he was always in the mix for the Bluebirds gig and was involved in the interview process which concluded at the end of last month. Buckingham has also been linked with the vacant post at Plymouth Argyle, who were also relegated to League One on the final day of the season. However, that job could well go to Barry-Murphy, who is now the bookies' favourite to take over at Home Park. ‌ The Irishman, who is currently a first-team coach at Leicester, is currently evens with BetVictor to take to the Argyle dugout, in what would be his second major role after leaving Rochdale in 2021. Barry-Murphy is ahead of Tom Cleverley, Jack Wilshere and Buckingham in the odds for the Plymouth job, as well as Evatt, who left Bolton in January. While Cardiff said that a new process to select the next manager made them hopeful of appointing a new boss by the end of May, the process has dragged on with Tan accused of treating fans with "contempt". In a statement released earlier this week, Cardiff City Supporters Trust described the delay as "intolerable", with fans "concerned and angry" about the situation. ‌ "Time is moving on, critical pre-season decisions need to be made in terms of the squad which cannot happen without a manager," the statement read. "It is as long ago as 19 April that Omer Riza was relieved of his duties and 3 May was the final game of the season and it is 10 June that this communication is being written with still no sign of an appointment. "As the ultimate power within the club does Vincent Tan have a sense of urgency? The club may say that there is no reason to panic but it is fair to say that the fanbase view the situation with some concern and anger. Article continues below "That fact that there has been a deafening silence from the club has not been helpful... we are led to believe that the current state of inertia/indecision is purely down to the owner [Tan] and... [chief executive] Ken Choo." It continued: "This situation is intolerable and only serves to demonstrate the contempt the owner holds the fanbase in. We have no idea where we are in the process. Are the experts employed to assist in the job of finding a new manager still in the building? Are they continuing to advise? We hope they are but we just don't know. "We will continue to liaise with the club to try and urge them to improve communication as fans deserve to be treated better."

Pep Guardiola's former sidekick set to rival ex-Arsenal star for huge League One job... despite suffering relegation with Premier League club last season

Leicester City first team coach Brian Barry-Murphy has emerged as a contender to become the next manager of Cardiff City. The 46-year old is also on the shortlists at Plymouth Argyle and Bristol City. Barry-Murphy has forged a solid reputation after being thrust into management at Rochdale before moving to Manchester City where he worked as manager of their Elite Development Squad and won consecutive Premier League 2 titles helping players such as Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and CJ Egan-Riley. Pep Guardiola leant on him for character references for the youngsters coming through and also asked him to help with first-team training. The former Republic of Ireland U21 international midfielder joined Leicester last summer, initially alongside Steve Cooper, but stayed on to work with Ruud van Nistelrooy. Cardiff suffered relegation to League One last season, coming 24th in the Championship. Their ownership is determined to return at the first attempt. Aaron Ramsey, who has an offer to carry on playing with UNAM Pumas in Mexico, has also pitched for the manager's job on a permanent basis.

'I felt when it went to 3-3 it was in our hands. But it's a devastating game, football is a horrible sport sometimes. (Against) top 10 in the world and we feel we should have walked away with a win.' Thomas said: 'Them behaving like that put it down to the pitch. The players got relaxed and we punished that. 'They might have been doing the Mexican wave but they weren't doing it when it went to 3-3. Advertisement 'They're entitled to do what they want, but we deal with what's on the pitch. They took me from non-league and made my dreams reality to play for Wales and put me in this moment. Advertisement 'To get it (the move) done early was important because I can focus on my football.
