Alex Revell says Jamie Reid's pre-season work has paid off after starring role

Boss Alex Revell praised the contribution of two-goal Jamie Reid as Stevenage came from an early goal down to beat Blackpool 3-2 in Skybet League One.
Dan Kemp netted Stevenage's other goal in his side's first ever victory at Bloomfield Road.
George Honeyman and Niall Ennis scored the game's first and last goals after five and 79 minutes but the Tangerines were punished for poor defending.
Reid equalised after 17 minutes and converted a penalty in the 10th minute of first-half stoppage time.
'Jamie has worked extremely hard over pre-season,' said Revell. 'His levels went through the roof as we progressively got further down the line.
'He feeds off confidence and opportunities. He had some but we didn't create him enough last season.
'His first goal came from a player who didn't think about it. It was instinctive and that's what he needed.
'The penalty was a tough one against a keeper (Bailey Peacock-Farrell) who he has faced many times. So, it was a big challenge for him.
'His general workrate for the team was good to see but everyone showed what it means to play for the football club.
'We feel we have a special group in what they have together and what they give each other.
'So, when you concede an early goal it can be hard to get back in the game. But we started to become more like ourselves and showed how incredibly hard the lads worked over pre-season.'
Debutant Honeyman punished sloppy play by new boy Jordan Houghton to put Pool in front. But Reid equally capitalised on Fraser Horsfall's poor back back to level.
His second came after Michael Ihiekwe handled Carl Piergianni's header before Jordan Roberts set-up Kemp five minutes after half-time following Peacock-Farrell's poor clearance.
Blackpool boss Steve Bruce admitted: 'We gifted them the match. It is a worry for me because that was our Achilles heel last season.
'We gave poor goals away and Stevenage didn't have to do much because we gifted them three goals; something you probably wouldn't see on a school pitch.
'That is the frustrating thing because I couldn't fault their effort or endeavour, especially the way they kept at it.
'We looked capable of being a threat at the top end of the pitch. But we can't make mistakes like we did. We made basic errors which cost us badly.
'So, we have got to eradicate them and certainly concentrate better. Otherwise, we are never going to progress.
'They had a shot after a minute and apart from the three goals we gifted them it was the only shot on target they had.'

Panutche Camara hoping Dundee Utd lightning strikes twice against Rapid Vienna as he eyes up Euro play-off spot

The Tangerines are gearing up for a mega night at Tannadice on Thursday in their Conference League qualifier Panutche Camara is hell-bent on making history by firing Dundee United past Rapid to the brink of the Conference League group stage. ‌ United sit 2-2 after their first leg heroics in the Allianz Stadium in Vienna last week. They know a home win on Thursday in front of a sell-out crowd at Tannadice would be enough to take them into the play-off round, where the winners of AIK Stockholm and Gyor await the victors. ‌ United famously saw off Rapid in the quarter-finals of the 1984 European Cup and will be looking for lightning to strike twice. Camara said: 'Yeah, I think everyone has a chance to make a story for this big club tomorrow if we win. I think the game is going to be important. ‌ "I think it's one step for us. If we win that game, I think we're going to go to the group stage, 100 per cent. 'We're so excited about tomorrow and we are so ready. We have prepared for the game very well and we're going to fight. 'I believe in our squad. It's a good group. We were very, very young and everyone has ambition but in a good way.' Camara is well aware that it's winner takes all and the Tangerine Army can play its part. He said: 'I think it's going to be nice [a sell-out]. 'Even in the away game, we saw that and tomorrow it's going to be massive. Now, we're going to face the game like we faced the first leg. ‌ "Yeah, I think we're going to play very well and we've got more confidence now. 'They're (Rapid Vienna) going to come here to our stadium. We expect it to be a really, really good game. 'I think it's going to be a good experience for all of us players because if you go through, it's going to be a massive journey in our career. I've never played in Europe. ‌ 'I came here to play in Europe then I'm going to give everything on Thursday night.' The 28-year-old has been a big player for Jim Goodwin as he has looked to bring more power and pace into his squad. Camara said: Yeah, I think that's my big strength in football. 'I can run all day, no problem for me. I can run 12km every week, it's no problem.' ‌ Camara has played both games in the wins over UNA Strassen and then the draw in Vienna last week. Some people were surprised by that result but not anyone in the United dressing room. The player said: 'No, because we know what we're going to do. We know what the gaffer asked us to do and then we did it. 'They think because in the press conference they said they looked like a physical team, or Scottish football is physical. ‌ 'But we played. I think we're good on the ball.' Camara came up from Crawley Town in the summer. United were able to sign him after a relegation clause was triggered. The midfielder admitted he had other English options but the chance to play in European football for the first time was a massive lure. ‌ He said: 'I had a couple of clubs interested in England but I wanted a new challenge. 'When I was invited to come in to Dundee United, I didn't think too much. I spoke to the manager and then I said, I want to go there. ‌ 'I didn't know the Scottish Premier League but when I came in to training I saw it's different to what I had heard before. 'Before they talked about physical stuff but it's a really tough league. Some clubs play really, really good football.' The Guinea-Bissau international has international experience and was also in their squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played against the likes of Mo Salah's Egypt. ‌ The former Ipswich Town player believes that will stand him in good stead. He said: 'Yeah, it's given me some good experience. 'I've played internationally, in England as well. I've played for quite a big team, Premier League team, Championship team. 'I think the level to Rapid is quite similar.' Max Watters is fit but United are without Ross Graham, Kristijan Trapanovski, Ryan Strain, Isaac Pappoe and Dario Namoo. New signing Julius Eskesen is not eligible but would be available if United were to progress into the Europa League play-off round.

Rapid 'probably favourites' against Dundee Utd in Conference League

Conference League: Dundee United v Rapid Vienna (agg 2-2)Venue: Tannadice Park, Dundee Date: Thursday, 14 August Time: 19:45 BSTCoverage: Listen on BBC Radio Scotland Extra & Sounds, live text commentary on the BBC Sport website & app Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin admits Rapid Vienna are probably favourites "in a lot of people's eyes" to knock his injury-hit side out of the Conference third qualifying round tie is in the balance after United twice came from behind against one of last season's quarter-finalists to secure a 2-2 draw in last week's first leg in taking "learnings" from that game and having home advantage on Thursday, Goodwin is well aware of the job the Tangerines have on their hands at what will be a packed winner will play Sweden's AIK Stockholm or FC Gyor of Hungary for a place in the Conference League."It is massive," said Goodwin. "There won't be any need for too much motivational speech from me before the game because the players know what is at stake."They know the opportunity that they have got but we know Rapid Vienna are a really good team and probably still in a lot of people's eyes are favourites."If the fans can generate a really positive atmosphere and drive the players on then hopefully it will be a memorable one that we will look back on in years to come." Team news Goodwin says a knee injury picked up by summer signing Isaac Pappoe early in the first leg will keep the Ghanaian midfielder out "for a lengthy period of time".United are in discussions with parent club Ferencvaros about whether to continue with the season-loan loan deal, given he is unlikely to return before Christmas. "We would be here too long if I said who wasn't available," added Goodwin, who is also without Ross Graham, Ryan Strain and Kristjian Trapanovski, among others."It is a real challenge, I have never had to face this type of situation this early on in a campaign. "On Sunday, we were missing seven or eight really influential players who arguably could be in the starting XI against Hearts, which would obviously make us stronger." What they said Dundee United defender Krisztian Keresztes: "I don't think we are favourites but we will fight until the end."I think these type of games are where you can develop yourself because the big prize is on the line so we have to grow up for this and make the right decisions."We are tired, we don't have that many players, we have a lot of injuries but if you mentally prepare well I think you can be surprised how you are able to play."

Nathan Jones is Fullah praise for Charlton's teenage goalscorer Ibrahim

Miles Leaburn slotted the Addicks ahead in the 27th minute before Fullah, 18, doubled their advantage before the break on his first start for the south London club. Luke Berry headed a third in the second half before Lewis Freestone's late consolation. 'I'm happy with the win and the fact a lot of people got minutes,' said Jones, who made 11 changes from Saturday's Championship victory over Watford. 'If I'm picking holes, I'd have liked us to keep a clean sheet and be a bit more clinical just before half-time. 'It was a fairy tale for Ibrahim. He's closer to the first team than people think. He is a wonderful footballer and he's just got to keep his feet on the ground. That won't be the last time you see him – or that he will score. 'He is not a wing-back, he is an attacking midfielder, but he did a job there tonight because we trust him.' Stevenage have won their opening two League One matches but manager Alex Revell was critical of a damaging opening 45 minutes. He said: 'First half we weren't in the game. We didn't compete enough, run enough or have the energy we are built around in our DNA. 'Ultimately when you give the ball away in areas that can be punished then good players do that. 'Second half we were miles better and it was not one-way traffic, a lot more like us. The third goal comes from a mistake. When you don't turn up for a half it's a struggle to win games.'
