Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan Discuss Their Big ‘Superman' Action Moments
Speaking in Los Angeles recently, we asked Hoult what it was like shooting this unique take on Lex's battles with Superman. 'Yeah, it's interesting when you're kind of a puppeteer behind the scenes because you're there at the hub, but you're not necessarily seeing exactly what's going on,' Hoult said of shooting the scene. 'And sometimes I was lucky where they'd already have shot David [Corenswet]'s opposing side of the scenes, but otherwise it's a lot of imagination and trying to guess the energy of what's needed at that point. And that's where James [Gunn] is so wonderful as a director because he's very clear in what his vision is and what he needs. He's collaborative and inviting to try things and new ideas, but also he's like, 'This is what I need; this is what the movie is at this moment,' and pushes you until he gets that. So it's a fun environment to work in.'
Another major action scene in Superman was shot in a decidedly less 'fun environment.' That's the scene when Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) land on the beach searching for Superman. Mister Terrific protects Lois in a force field while he destroys a bunch of LuthorCorp soldiers, all while the song '5 Years Time' by Noah and the Whale plays alongside.
'This is quite literally the first time I've ever spoken about shooting this scene,' Brosnahan said to io9. 'It was a blast… it was so fun. Edi Gathegi, I've been such a fan of his from afar for such a long time. He's such a talented actor, but I feel like people don't often get to see this side of him. He's so dry in the movie. He's so funny. And that scene in particular we shot on a 100-degree day in Cleveland on a beach.'
'And the humidity was high too. It was a wreck of a week,' Superman himself, David Corenswet, added in. 'It was an absolutely miserable experience, and Edi had to shoot this huge stunt scene, and there were so many stunt performers in huge costumes,' Brosnahan continued. 'I just remember us all melting, but Edi was a total pro. You guys all were with your little briefcases filled with cooling air that would pump through the suits. But that was one of the first scenes that Edi and I got to shoot together. So that's what I think about mostly that day, just watching him fight against all the odds and kill that scene.'
They all killed their scenes, which is why Superman seems to be hitting with fans and critics alike. It's now in theaters.

So when things slow down, they'll take some getting used to for you both. Aquarius Everyone changes. Looking at your puppy pictures is like looking at a stranger. The same is true for your human. King Ultramega Supergroup Pays Tribute to Chris Cornell With ‘Rusty Cage' Cover
A raft of talented musicians come together to form the new King Ultramega supergroup and pay tribute to late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell in the process. The nascent group made their debut on Friday (July 18), sharing a rendition of Soundgarden's 'Rusty Cage' – the opening track to 1991's Grammy-nominated Badmotorfinger. More from Billboard Mariah Carey 'MC16' Album Details Coming Tomorrow Fans Choose BTS' 'Permission to Dance On Stage' Live Album as This Week's Favorite New Music 'JACKBOYS 2' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart Leading the charge in King Ultramega is vocalist William DuVall of Alice in Chains, who is joined by Mastodon's Bill Kelliher on guitars, Anthrax and Pantera's Charlie Benante on drums, while Metal Allegiance's Mark Menghi serves as bassist and mastermind for the project. 'I just leaned into my love for the song and my immense respect for Chris,' DuVall of the cover. 'Since the instrumental track Bill, Charlie, and Mark sent hewed so closely to the original, I thought it best for me to stay in that ballpark as well.' According to Menghi, the project started back during the COVID-19 pandemic when he recorded a rendition of the track with friends. After being initially apprehensive of the project given the lofty standards set by Cornell, Menghi's position changed once Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil became involved and re-recorded one of his own tracks for the project. 'There is not a singular moment in time that led to this project,' explained Menghi. 'It was a trail of events that led to the formation of King Ultramega and the evolving creation to pay tribute to the voice of a generation.' Future releases in the series will feature songs from across Cornell's career, with selections taken from his work with Soundgarden, Audioslave, and his own solo career. Each track will also be raising funds and awareness for MusiCares, with the likes of Joe Satriani, Alissa White-Gluz and Kenny Aronoff all set to appear in the future. 'My reason for participating was simply taking on an interesting challenge when so much of the world was shut down,' added DuVall. 'I had no thoughts or ambitions for this beyond our posting it on social media five years ago. But if this release can help further the good work done by MusiCares, then I'm all for it.' 'I'm super honored to record alongside all the amazing musicians appearing on the King Ultramega project,' Thayil added in a statement. 'I'm equally proud that it celebrates Soundgarden in this tribute to the songwriting of Chris. Ultra-admirably, everyone's participation is supporting the work of the MusiCares Foundation.' Soundgarden officially disbanded in 2017 following Cornell's passing at the age of 52. In recent years, a handful of reunion performances have taken place, including a December benefit gig under the moniker Nudedragons with vocalist Shaina Shepherd in December. Members of Soundgarden had also previously been announced as performers for the recent Back To The Beginning farewell concert for Ozzy Osbourne at Villa Park in Birmingham, England on July 5, though ultimately did not attend. 'We are very grateful to Tony, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, as well as Sharon Osbourne and music director, Tom Morello for the honor and invitation to Soundgarden to perform at the Back to the Beginning festival!' a statement on Soundgarden's official Instagram account read. 'We are super bummed and regret that we were unable to coordinate the schedules of our individual and collective projects to attend and contribute to the festival.' Taylor Swift celebrates BFF Selena Gomez's 33rd birthday at star-studded ‘70s disco-themed bash
Taylor Swift attended her BFF Selena Gomez's 33rd birthday party alongside the latter's fiancé, Benny Blanco, and other close pals. The 'Cruel Summer' songstress was seen posing next to the 'Only Murders in the Building' star in a pool of balloons in a photo dump shared via Instagram Sunday from the '70s disco-themed bash. Swift looked chic, wearing a black long-sleeved dress with her iconic red lip, while Gomez sported a sequined jumpsuit and fur jacket. Gomez, 32, was also seen smiling with a group of friends, including Sofia Carson, on a rooftop and sharing a passionate smooch with Blanco, 37, during the soirée. 'As I prepare to celebrate my 33rd birthday, I can't help but reflect on the incredible journey that has brought me here,' the 'Calm Down' singer captioned the carousel. 'This past year has truly been the most beautiful year of my life, and I owe so much of that to all of you.' 'Thank you for your unwavering love and kindness. Whether you cheered me on from the sidelines, shared in my highs and lows, or simply offered a listening ear, you have made this year unforgettable,' the 'Emilia Pérez' actress continued. 'I am extremely humbled and insanely appreciative of all your love.' Gomez — who turns 33 on Tuesday — shared that she was 'filled with excitement and hope for what's to come,' adding, 'I look forward to sharing more moments with all of you, creating new memories, and continuing this beautiful journey together. MADLY LOVE YOU ALL .' The birthday festivities came days after a source said that Swift, 35, would be in attendance to celebrate Gomez and Blanco's nuptials in Montecito, Calif., this September. 'Selena and Benny's wedding is going to be a two-day event,' an insider told the Daily Mail last week. 'Although it's for friends and family only, many on the friends list are huge celebrities, including Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Selena's co-stars from 'Only Murders in the Building' and music superstars who are Benny's friends and some he's also worked with.' Another insider claimed to the outlet that Gomez tried to 'accommodate' Swift's busy schedule with the wedding date. 'Selena is not having her wedding to accommodate Taylor, but she wants her to attend and she would love for her to be able to go with Travis,' the source said. Gomez and Blanco got engaged in December 2024 after dating for over a year. Solve the daily Crossword
