2 fall into Vasai RMC plant's 30ft well, ‘choke to death'
Police said they have lodged an accidental death report and are investigating what the two victims—Vishwajeet Harishchandra Rajbhar (20) and Rajan Surendra Rajbhar (24), who resided in Naigaon—were doing inside the premises. The initial investigation indicated that the two had entered the plot in search of some rope on the evening of May 2. It wasn't clear if the well had been left uncovered or the two had removed the lid, and when it was dug up. Police are also ascertaining where Vishwajeet and Rajan worked.

According to police, the RMC plant in Naigaon's Sasupada, owned by one Angad Singh, has a 30ft-deep well of 5ft diameter. Sources said a person heard Vishwajeet and Rajan's screams from the well and alerted others. A local, Salman Khan (25), entered the well to rescue them but he, too, got stuck. A crane was deployed to rescue all three.
After being pulled out, Vishwajeet and Rajan were motionless. They were rushed to a local hospital, where they were declared dead. The bodies have been sent for autopsies to ascertain the cause of death. Khan, who was struggling to breathe, was taken to a Kashimira hospital. Police said he is out of danger and is responding well to treatment.

Punawale, Tathawade residents seek enforcement of heavy vehicle ban in restricted hours
Pune: Residents of Punawale, Tathawade and nearby areas have demanded strict enforcement of the heavy vehicle ban, citing violations despite police orders. The residents claimed that the movement of such vehicles, especially those carrying construction material, remains high even during the restricted hours. Shubham Kandale, a Punawale resident, said, "Police orders have made little difference on the ground. Heavy vehicles, especially RMC trucks and those carrying construction material, continue to operate even during restricted hours. These vehicles worsen traffic congestion, particularly near underpasses during peak hours, leaving commuters stuck in long queues for hours." "These drivers do not follow traffic discipline, posing a significant risk to two-wheeler riders," said Ganesh Supankar, a resident of Tathawade. Kandale said traffic police are often stationed at bottlenecks to manage vehicle flow, leaving little scope for patrolling to catch heavy vehicles violating the ban. "Small accidents involving construction vehicles have become a routine problem in the area," he said. The neighbourhoods of Wakad, Punawale, Tathawade and Kiwale are among the fastest-growing areas, with several large residential projects currently under construction. Two weeks ago, a 33-year-old woman lost her life after being run over by a heavy vehicle near Kate Vasti Road. Last month, another woman was seriously injured in a similar accident near the Tathawade underpass. Sumit Dhage, another resident, said they met officials concerned to discuss the issue following the tragic accident on Kate Vasti road. "The local MLA and traffic police also visited the area the day after the accident. They assured us of action, but nothing has changed," he said. Two days after the accident, the traffic police extended the heavy vehicle ban by an hour in both morning and evening hours. As per the revised schedule, heavy vehicles are barred from operating within city limits from 8am to 11am and from 5pm to 10pm. However, the situation on the ground remains the same. Vivek Patil, DCP (traffic), Pimpri Chinchwad police, admitted that heavy vehicles continue to violate norms, but said a special enforcement drive has been underway since Aug 1 to curb the issue. "We have begun registering legal cases under section 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation) of the BNS against offenders. Between Aug 1 and 10, we lodged 102 cases against the owners of 150 vehicles," he said, adding that fines have also been imposed on the violators. The residents also claim that many construction vehicles violate MPCB norms and transport the material uncovered, spreading dust along the roads. "This not only worsens air quality but also makes the surface slippery, increasing the risk of accidents," Vitthal Baral, a resident of the area, said. 31-yr-old accused in brutal northwest Delhi murder nabbed after year-long manhunt
New Delhi: A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting and murdering a man last year, along with his two brothers-in-law and his wife, police said on Monday. The case dates back to July 16, 2024, when the accused—identified as Rajan, Aman alias Bada Nata, Abhishek alias Chota Nata, and Arti—allegedly attacked Bharat Yadav with knives and lathis in northwest Delhi. Bharat was allegedly stabbed multiple times and succumbed to his injuries. His mother was also reportedly injured in the assault. A case was registered at the Jahangirpuri police station under Sections 103 (murder), 3(5) (common intention), and 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Arms Act. DCP (crime) Harsh Indora said, "Rajan kept changing locations, avoided electronic communication, and took up odd jobs to stay under the radar. The team made multiple attempts to locate him in Hisar (Haryana) and Hanumangarh (Rajasthan), but he managed to evade arrest. He had severed all ties with his native village and even abandoned his first wife." According to police, a tip-off received on Aug 11 led to his arrest at Madhuban Chowk in Rohini. "Through a combination of manual intelligence and technical surveillance, the team successfully tracked and apprehended him," Indora added. During interrogation, Rajan reportedly confessed to his role in the murder. Police also discovered that he is wanted in another criminal case filed by his first wife in Karnal, Haryana, where he remains absconding. 28 illegal ready mix concrete plants continue to operate in Mumbai, FIR filed on June 7
Mumbai: Despite an FIR being filed against 28 ready mix concrete (RMC) plants on June 7 operating illegally in three areas in Vasai East, no action has been taken against them. Some of the RMC plants in Juchandra, Sasunavghar and Maljipada continue to operate. After the MPCB had issued closure notices to them in Jan and Feb, their power was disconnected by the MSEDCL on the request of MPCB. However, there are more than a dozen that operate using diesel generator sets (DG sets) continuing their supply of RMC to private parties. Since the RMC plants do not have name-boards outside their units, it is difficult to pinpoint which ones are active. The NH48 stretch of around 15kms between Fountain to Sativali Phata has 45 to 47 legal RMC units and these 28 illegal RMCs took the number to around 74 deteriorating the AQI in the locality. In her order dated July 18, issued to MPCB and VVMC, Indurani Jakhar, the Palghar Collector had clearly mentioned that the illegal RMC units should be closed and the action taken report to be sent to her. The Collector along with the civic bodies have said they will look into the matter.
