Are you a hardcore Samsung fan looking for your next flip phone under $630? How about the Galaxy Z Flip 5 ? Sure, it's not the newest kid on the block, but you can now get it for nearly half off at Amazon. Yep, the ~$1,120 512GB model is down by $492, diving to its lowest price at the merchant. In case you're wondering, Amazon's promo is exclusive, meaning no merchant matches the current discount. In fact, the model is out of stock at the official store and Best Buy, while Walmart sells select models at significantly smaller markdowns. And let's be real: it's not every day you can score a Samsung foldable at nearly half price.Don't feel like settling for a 2023 flip phone? The latest Galaxy Z Flip 7 might be a good alternative, provided you have the right device to swap. Right now, the Android phone is up for pre-order for up to $720 off. The promo requires an eligible device trade-in and includes a free storage upgrade. In other words, you get it for as low as $499.99, but again — you'd have to spare an eligible device in good condition to save that much. But what makes the 2023-releasedworth considering, aside from its 44% markdown? Well, it has a premium design, a 3.4-inch Flex Screen, and a pretty good-looking 6.7-inch main display. As we've mentioned in our Galaxy Z Flip 5 review , the main display offers gorgeous colors and excellent viewing angles. Moreover, it gets sufficiently bright for a comfortable viewing experience outdoors.Since it's a somewhat older smartphone, this bad boy clearly doesn't arrive with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Instead, it packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC under the hood, delivering a smooth and reliable daily experience and some potential for demanding tasks.Add decent camera performance and software support through Android 17 to the mix, and you've got a device that's well worth considering. While it's not the most impressive Samsung foldable to date, it's hard to ignore at 44% off. Get yours and save at Amazon or take advantage of Samsung's pre-order deal on thewhile it lasts.

Does this huge $16.5 billion order mark the start of a turnaround at Samsung Foundry?
Samsung's beleaguered foundry unit made a surprise announcement in South Korea Monday morning local time. The foundry announced that it would supply automobile manufacturer Tesla with chips until 2033. The transaction is valued at $16.5 billion and is huge for Samsung Foundry, which has been a distant second to TSMC in the business of contract chip manufacturing. Samsung Foundry's yields have been well below TSMC's. This measures the percentage of dies cut from a silicon wafer that pass quality control (QC), divided by the maximum number of usable dies that the wafer could have produced. A low percentage means that not enough good chips are being manufactured, and that results in higher prices for the chips that can be used. The yield issue has cost Samsung Foundry business from big-name chip designers such as Qualcomm. TSMC had a leading 67.6% share of the contract chip manufacturing business in Q1. Samsung Foundry was second with a 7.7% share. The deal with Tesla could help generate more business for Samsung Foundry. Finding new clients and keeping current ones has been difficult for the Samsung unit. Kiwoom Securities analyst Pak Yuak says the deal will reduce the red ink that Samsung's foundry business has been spilling. For the first half of this year, Samsung Foundry lost more than 5 trillion won ($3.63 billion). TSMC's client list contains some of the biggest names in tech, including Apple (its number one client), Nvidia, Qualcomm, AMD, and MediaTek. It doesn't seem likely that Tesla will require Samsung Foundry to supply it with its most cutting-edge 2nm chips. That's the word from Lee Min-hee, an analyst at BNK Investment & Securities. Investors seem pleased by this announcement as Samsung's shares soared 6.8% on Monday, rising 4,500 Korean won ($3.45) to 70,400 Korean won ($50.68). The feeling is that with this order, Samsung Foundry may have turned a corner in a bid to become more competitive with TSMC. Samsung restricts bootloader unlocking on One UI 8 devices
It's not all sunshine and roses with the latest One UI 8 software by Samsung. The company's take on Android 16 is currently available as a stable version on its Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 smartphones. Meanwhile, some users are running a beta version of the software on their Galaxy S devices and older foldables. While most people are enjoying the new features, some power users are left disappointed because Samsung quietly restricted the ability to unlock the bootloader. And this appears to be true for both stable and beta builds. Moreover, previous Galaxy S and Z Fold/Z Flip generation users with unlocked bootloaders are reporting that the update to One UI 8 beta locked their bootloader. An XDA Developers forum user dug deeper into the code and found out that there isn't a potential workaround either. It appears that Samsung has completely removed all lines of code that control bootloader unlocking, so it's not just a setting that's been removed from the Settings menu. This sounds like a significant blow to Samsung's power user base, and it could potentially trigger some regulatory alarms in the EU. Source 1 | Source 2

Galaxy Z Fold 7 users are adding reinforcements to the phone after unfolding struggles
Thought skinniness didn't come with its own set of problems? Think again! The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the thinnest foldable phone in the world, and that's causing some usability problems. Hordes of Galaxy Z Fold 7 users have taken to Reddit to complain that unfolding the Fold 7 is a task in itself. Since the phone is so slender, getting a grip on the two halves to open it can be a hit or miss. It's also suspected that the magnets used to hold the two sides together securely are very strong. —Joneep, Reddit user, July 2025 This is particularly noticeable when users try to unfurl the phone with one hand while juggling another task with the other. It may have helped if the phone's frames had a grippier texture. While the issue can mostly be managed with the right case, not everyone wants to put one on, which is why many users have come up with creative solutions, such as adding rubber grips to the sides of the phones. Another idea is to use a skin with a grippy texture. —Mouser05, Reddit user, July 2025 —ContributionLive3126, Reddit user, July 2025 One user has recommended using a collapsible strip to make it easier to unfold the phone one-handed. Galaxy Z Fold 7 users can't easily unfold the phone without getting creative. | Image Credit - Reddit users Holy_chick, SpaceDandye, and KillianReaver There's also apparently a right and wrong way to open the phone, and once you get the hang of it, it might get easier to pry open the device without it feeling like an uphill task. If you place your thumbs at the same level on both sides and place your middle, ring, and index fingers on the hinge and open the phone while applying gentle downward pressure using your thumbs, it should do the trick. —grepresentitive, Reddit user, July 2025 Should it have to be this complicated is another question. While it's easy to be dismissive of the problem and call it nitpicking, it's important to remember that this is a real concern if it's bothering so many people. It was one of the first things our Victor Hristov noticed when testing out the phone. He explained that the phone's flat sides exacerbated the problem, and he came close to dropping it a few times when trying to open it. Perhaps next time, Samsung will want to opt for angled sides to fix the problem.
