When they got there, officers found the child, around 5 years old, unconscious. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where investigators said he was pronounced dead.
According to Mansfield police, 'detectives are currently working the case as this appears the young boy was left in the vehicle during the extreme heat today.'

Weather records showed that temperatures reached 91 degrees in Mansfield on Thursday afternoon.
No charges have been filed at this time, but Mansfield police said detectives are working with the Richland County Prosecutor's Office.

Attempted break-in reported at home of All-Star pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto during Dodgers road trip
Three people attempted to break into the Hollywood Hills home of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto early Wednesday morning, according to NBC4 Los Angeles. Nothing was stolen, and the intruders never entered the residence, per authorities, according to NBC4, which also reported that the group leapt over the house's back fence at around 5:30 a.m. and broke a rear glass door. Yamamoto is currently with the Dodgers in Cincinnati, where the team is finishing up a three-game series Wednesday. But staff members were home at the time of the commotion and turned on the lights, according to NBC4. Per the station's report, that's when the trio fled, although law enforcement sources told NBC4 that three people were seen on security camera footage. Father accused of drowning daughter pleads not guilty in New York court
ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. — A man accused of drowning his 9-year-old daughter while vacationing in New York's Adirondack region and hiding her body in the water in the woods pleaded not guilty Wednesday. Luciano Frattolin, 45, set off a frantic search for his daughter, Melina Frattolin, earlier this month by reporting her missing just before they were due back in Montreal. He was arrested after investigators found holes in his story. He was indicted Tuesday on charges of murder and concealing a corpse.
