The Hindu19-05-2025
Two men were arrested from Laxmi Nagar for running a fake government job recruitment racket under the Ministry of Rural Development. under the name 'National Rural Development and Recreation Mission (NRDRM)' to falsely present it as a government body under the Ministry of Rural Development, have been arrested by Delhi Police, officers said on Monday.
The accused persons, one from Telangana and the other from Assam, have been booked under BNS Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 319(2) (cheating by personation), an officer said.
The police were alerted about the racket after the Ministry of Rural Development filed a complaint on March 22 reporting the circulation of fraudulent recruitment advertisements on fake websites carrying the images of Ministers and senior government officials.
An investigation was launched. A QR code was found linked to the websites, which the victims' used to pay job registration fees. 'This money was credited into a Central Bank of India account of Assam via this QR Code. The money was further siphoned off to multiple accounts and subsequently withdrawn through ATMs,' a senior officer involved in the investigation said. After analysing footage of cash withdrawals, the police traced and arrested one of the accused from Shakarpur, Laxmi Nagar.
On sustained interrogation, he disclosed the location of the second accused, the officer said. The second accused, the mastermind of the racket, was arrested from Laxmi Nagar too.
DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla said, 'The second accused had recruited a team of specialist web developers to create fake websites that resembled genuine government websites. The recruitment advertisements were also promoted on social media and in newspapers to lure more victims. The registration fees paid by the victims were routed to bank accounts operated by the accused and later siphoned off through mule accounts and ATM withdrawals.'

Tihar official assault: Court acquits man on benefit of doubt

New Delhi: A Delhi court recently acquitted a man accused of assaulting a deputy jail superintendent in Tihar Jail. The court of judicial magistrate Bharti Garg stated that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt, and the accused was entitled to the benefit of the doubt due to the numerous contradictions in the prosecution's case. "The documentary evidence adduced by the prosecution also suffers from serious infirmities and adds up to the pile of contradictions emerging in the prosecution case, thereby leading to the irresistible conclusion that the accused is entitled to the benefit of the doubt," the court said. The court was hearing the case against the inmate Salman Tyagi, against whom Hari Nagar police station registered a case based on a complaint by an assistant superintendent of Tihar prison. According to the prosecution, Tyagi threatened, pushed, and beat the prison official when he was being produced virtually on July 30, 2021. The court held that the FIR was not registered promptly and that there was ample opportunity to concoct and deliberate to file an embellished report. The judge said that the evidence of a crucial prosecution witness did not inspire confidence, nor was his presence established at the time of the alleged incident.
