Woman in her 50s who was attacked moments after car crash dies – as ‘fleeing drug driver', 23, arrested over ‘murder'
A 23-YEAR-OLD 'man 'drug driver' has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died.
The woman in her 50s was allegedly assaulted after a road traffic accident and has since sadly died.
On June 24 just after 5:30pm, Leicestershire Police were called to Aylesbury Road after a vehicle overturned.
The driver was seen leaving the vehicle and running down the road before assaulting a woman near Leicester Royal Infirmary.

She was left with life threatening injuries, and later died on the afternoon of June 26.
The driver was detained at the scene and arrested by police.
He was initially charged with:
Suspicion of attempted murder
Possession with intent to supply class B drugs
Assault of an emergency worker
Dangerous driving
Driving while unfit through drugs
Failing to provide a specimem
He has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Leicestershire Police has asked anyone with information, or with dash cam footage of the vehicle or subsequent assault, to come forward.
Detective Inspector Emma Matts, from East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation team said: 'This woman was sadly subjected to a serious assault and was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. Her family and close friends have remained at her bedside and tragically she died this afternoon.
'Since the incident, a dedicated team of detectives have worked tirelessly pursuing all lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances around what happened. Those enquiries will very much continue as we now move the incident to a murder investigation.
'I would like to thank those members of the public who have contacted with information about what they saw but I would also still like to appeal to anyone who saw anything connected to this incident or filmed any footage - whether that was of the vehicle being driven beforehand through the city centre, the collision itself or the assault – and hasn't spoken to officers to please get in touch.'
'Again, if you were driving a vehicle which has a dash cam, please check your vehicle to see if it has captured anything of use to the investigation.
'What you know could still be a crucial piece of information so please do not hesitate to pass that on.'

A Hamas supporter with a £600-a-week cannabis habit has been jailed after calling for Jews to be 'burnt alive'. Zakir Hussain, 29, used the social media site X to write a spate of anti-Semitic posts over a three-month period. Hussain first posted on November 3 2023, less than a month after the Oct 7 Hamas attacks in which more than 1,000 Israelis were killed. He wrote: 'Hezbullah come quick finish them like rodents.' Later that month, Hussain wrote: '7 October was a beautiful day, Jews stop hiding.' On December 25 2023, he commented: 'October 7 was a beautiful day', 'In the UK, we are hunting them for fun' and 'Go on Hamas, finish them and maybe we can find the beheaded urine babies'. The posting continued into January last year, when Hussain wrote on January 5: 'I'm in London, any Jew out there come out and stand up for your religion.' Four days later he posted: 'Wish it was more in that festival slaughter them IDK terrorists, burn them alive' in reference to the Oct 7 attack. He also wrote: 'Long live Hamas, Hezbollah' and ' Hamas, Houthi, Hezbollah finish these little rats.' 'Burn them alive' His final post came on Jan 10, when he wrote: 'Burn them alive, no religion can abuse children the way they do.' Hussain, of no fixed address, admitted four counts of expressing support for a proscribed organisation and seven counts of stirring up racial hatred between November 3 2023 and January 10 last year. He was jailed for five years and eight months, with an extended period on licence of three years. Judge Anthony Leonard KC said a pre-sentence report revealed Hussain was spending £600 a week on cannabis at the time of the offences. Hussain refused to give his PIN to police but, once they got into his phone, they found still images 'indicative of a mindset that was supportive of Hamas'. 'You are not being punished for your sympathy but for what your posts may have garnered in support for a proscribed organisation,' the judge said. Hussain believed 9/11 was a planned attack that the US government knew about and allowed to happen, the court heard. Judge Leonard told Hussain he had 'focused on hate speech instead of educating yourself'. Hussain, wearing a green T-shirt, waved to the public gallery as he was led to the cells.

Oisin Murphy booked for rides right up until court date after drink-drive charge
OISIN MURPHY is currently booked for rides right up until the day before he appears in court following his drink-drive charge. The reigning champion jockey, who was also charged with failing to provide a sample at the roadside, crashed his car into a tree and injured a woman in a smash near Hungerford on April 27. 1 Murphy, 29, will appear at Reading Magistrates' Court on Thursday. However, he is currently booked to be riding right up until that day as trainers and owners appear happy to let him on their horses. Murphy actually rode a double at Royal Ascot last Thursday - the same day he was charged by police. And, according to current jockey bookings, he is due to be in action at Thirsk in North Yorkshire next Wednesday for four rides. The BHA issued a statement soon after Murphy's charge was made public but no mention was made of Murphy, for whatever reason, not being allowed to continue riding. He has five rides at Doncaster today including on 8-11 favourite Displaying in the 3.20. According to BHA jockey bookings, Murphy is set to ride for Andrew Balding, James Ferguson and Ismail Mohammed on Wednesday. Currently, his final race would be in the 4.03 on the Opulence Thoroughbred-owned Triple Gee. Thirsk racecourse is some 238 miles from the court, a drive of roughly five hours. A statement from Thames Valley Police said: "A man has been charged in connection with an ongoing investigation into a serious road traffic collision in Hermitage, West Berkshire. "Last Thursday (19/6) Oisin Murphy, aged 29, of Beales Farm Road, Lambourn, Hungerford, was charged by postal requisition with one count of driving a motor vehicle while over the prescribed limit of alcohol and one count of failing to cooperate with a preliminary test at the roadside. "The charge is in connection with a single vehicle road traffic collision around 12.05am on Sunday 27 April this year when a grey Mercedes A Class left the road and crashed into a tree. "Murphy is due to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court on 3 July. "It is vital that people do not speculate or spread misinformation on social media as this is a live investigation." The BHA said in a statement: "The BHA is aware of an update issued by Thames Valley Police this afternoon regarding Mr Oisin Murphy. "We are now seeking to gather as much information as possible in order to consider what, if any, implications there are as a result of this development."

Attempted murder arrest in Nuneaton after man falls from window
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police were called to reports that a man had fallen from a third floor window. Crews were called to Stoneleigh Court on Coton Road in Nuneaton at 23:57 BST on Tuesday, West Midlands Ambulance Service said. On arrival a man was found with serious injuries and transferred to hospital for further treatment. Warwickshire Police said the woman, who was also arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs, had been bailed with strict conditions, adding inquiries were continuing. The force added that the man was expected to remain in hospital for a number of days. The woman had also been issued a Domestic Violence Protection Notice, police said.
