Giannis Antetokounmpo will not be seen on the court for the ECOMMBX Cup this weekend, a prep tournament for the Eurobasket, as officially announced by the Greek federation.
The tournament is scheduled for this weekend in Cyprus, and will see the Bucks star miss the games against the Serbian and Israeli national teams, the former of which will feature fellow NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, a seemingly epic encounter between the two future Hall of Famers slipping through the cracks.
According to Vassilis Spanoulis, the Greek national team head coach, he said last Tuesday that Giannis "is following his personal training program" and doesn't believe that his absence should have any influence on his participation in the Eurobasket 2025.
The Bucks' big man comes fresh off of another legendary season that saw him average over 30 points per game for the third consecutive year and was also again involved in the MVP conversation along with Jokic and the eventual winner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Antetokounmpo was named to his ninth consecutive All-Star Game and his seventh consecutive All-NBA first team.
The Milwaukee Bucks finished 48-34, losing in the first round to the eventual Eastern Conference champions, the Indiana Pacers, in five games.

Bucks' Giannis obliterates Kristaps Porzingis' Latvia in EuroBasket tune-up

The post Bucks' Giannis obliterates Kristaps Porzingis' Latvia in EuroBasket tune-up appeared first on ClutchPoints. When he is healthy, Giannis Antetokounmpo is the most formidable players in the NBA. The Milwaukee Bucks forward has decisions to make, but he is committed to playing for his country. He and the Greek team are preparing for EuroBasket. Antetokounmpo sent a message to Atlanta Hawks center Kristaps Porzingis and the Latvian national team with a big game. Antetokounmpo made his summer debut on Wednesday for Greece against Porzingis and Latvia in a tune-up game. The former NBA champion showed no signs of rust in international play, putting up a double-double in his first game. The All-Star forward scored EuroBasket/status/1958245260309434385" rel="noopener">25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Greece won 104-86. Ahead of EuroBasket, Antetokounmpo might be the best player in the field. Even when he wasn't on the court, Antetokounmpo gave fans a viral moment. Throughout his professional career, the forward and his brothers are regular participants in international competition. This year's EuroBasket tournament is no exception. If Wednesday's dominant showing is any indication, Porzingis and the rest of Greece's opponents have their work cut out for them. Porzingis will get a good look at Antetokounmpo before clashing against him in the regular season in the NBA. The former Boston Celtics center found himself in a new home after a trade sent him to the Hawks. He and Atlanta are one of the main obstacles between Antetokounmpo and other championship. The Bucks forward said earlier this year that another title is his top priority. For now, though, Antetokounmpo has a chance to kill two birds with one stone. Despite his dominance, Greece has not won an international competition since Milwaukee's superstar became eligible to play for the national team. He appears on a mission to change that at EuroBasket. After his dominant performance against Latvia, the sky's the limit for him and the Greek team. New Nuggets star hoping to medal in EuroBasket — despite major disadvantage

New Nuggets star hoping to medal in EuroBasket — despite major disadvantage originally appeared on The Sporting News A new Denver Nuggets star is angling to medal for his national team in EuroBasket, despite a distinct disadvantage. Three-time MVP Denver center Nikola Jokic isn't the only Nuggets big man looking for some summer hardware. Per Nikola Miloradovic of Jokic's new backup, Jonas Valanciunas, believes his Lithuanian national team can make a major impact when the games start to count next week. 'I've always felt honored to represent my country, play for my country. Every time I step on the court with a green or white jersey, I feel amazing, I feel honored, and I want to do this as long as I'm capable,' he said, speaking to FIBA," Valanciunas said. MORE NEWS:Promising young Nuggets guard seen as major trade candidate this season Valanciunas' Team Lithuania will be functioning at something of a distinct disadvantage: they'll be boasting just one NBA player, Valanciunas. Other clubs have starrier top names and more NBA-seasoned talent. 'I think every team is capable. We have some big names coming. Serbia, Turkey, Germany, we have Slovenia with Luka and, Greece with Giannis,' Valanciunas said. 'We have a lot of a lot of a lot of big names, but that feel like every team is capable and every team can make some shake.' Team France will be trotting out young NBA talents Guerschon Yabusele, Bilal Coulibaly, Zaccharie Risacher, and Alex Sarr, but will be without All-Stars Victor Wembanyam or, Rudy Gobert due to health concerns. Serbia is particularly loaded. The team, which finished with the bronze medal at last summer's Paris Olympics, also includes NBA players Bogdan Bogdanovic, Nikola Topic, and Tristan Vukcevic. 2024-25 Phoenix Suns point guard Vasilije Micic, who recently signed with Israeli team Hapoel Tel Aviv, will also be playing for his home country. Germany is always a tough cover, led by Dennis Schroder, Franz Wagner, and Tristan da Silva. All-NBA First Team superstars Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo anchor Team Slovenia and Team Greece, respectively. Valanciunas reflected on his enthusiasm for playing basketball on his home continent for the event. 'It's closer to our region, to our base," Valanciunas said. "Every tournament is important, but the European championship feels more like home, so I'm glad to be here.' The tournament proper is brief. EuroBasket will run from August 27 to September 14. Valanciunas reflected on the brisk turnaround. 'There's always a minimum of rest and a lot of games. But that's what makes it interesting. You don't just have to play well—you have to recover and be ready the next day. Only the stronger survive.' The 32-year-old big man, who reportedly flirted with ditching the NBA for Greek EuroLeague squad Panathinaikos this summer despite being traded to a contender for the first time in a while, spoke about the physical demands of playing competitive basketball over the summer. 'Every tournament is a challenge—mental, body, basketball. To perform at your best, you have to put everything together: recovery, mental stage, dedication. Everything comes into one if you want to win.' MORE NEWS:Ex-Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook gets free agency update

Bucks trade pitch sends Giannis Antetokounmpo to Pistons for rising stars, draft capital

Bucks trade pitch sends Giannis Antetokounmpo to Pistons for rising stars, draft capital originally appeared on The Sporting News The Milwaukee Bucks have worked tirelessly this offseason to stay in title contention and keep Giannis Antetokounmpo satisfied following their recent postseason struggles. After losing in the first round of the playoffs for the third consecutive season, trade speculation surrounding Antetokounmpo began to swirl rapidly. A report from Shams Charania of ESPN on Aug. 4 indicated that the superstar forward will continue to weigh his options, although it still appears unlikely Milwaukee will move its franchise cornerstone. The club made a series of desperate moves this summer to keep Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee, including waiving and stretching the remaining $113 million on Damian Lillard's contract over the next five years to create cap space for Myles Turner. The Bucks could flip Antetokounmpo for future assets If the retooled Bucks are unable to make any significant noise this season — or if Antetokounmpo requests a trade before the deadline — Milwaukee could look to move him for future assets and begin a rebuild. MORE: Bucks' 12 million guard named key 'wild card' for 2025-26 season Dave Holcomb of recently put together a mock trade that would send the two-time MVP to one of the Bucks' fiercest rivals, the Detroit Pistons. Here's Holcomb's proposed trade: Bucks receive: Tobias Harris, Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, four first-round picks Pistons receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo The Bucks would almost certainly have several suitors if they chose to part with the nine-time All-Star. The San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat are all among the teams who have previously been linked to Antetokounmpo. The Pistons, meanwhile, are a rising team who are expected to build around Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson. Adding Antetokounmpo at power forward would be a massive upgrade over Harris, though the club would have to rely on Isaiah Stewart at center. Milwaukee would acquire intriguing pieces in return. Ivey is set to become a restricted free agent after the 2025-26 campaign, but Milwaukee could look to lock him into a long-term deal as part of its rebuild. The Bucks would also land a promising young big man in Duren, who is also set to become a restricted free agent after this season and has averaged a double-double on 65.5 percent shooting over the past two seasons. Antetokounmpo isn't expected to go anywhere for now, but things can change quickly in the NBA — especially if his desire to win another title outweighs his loyalty to Milwaukee.
