Paul McCartney set to be the inaugural performer at Hamilton's new TD Coliseum

Legendary singer-songwriter Paul McCartney will be the inaugural performer at the newly transformed TD Coliseum in Hamilton.
The hitmaker takes the stage Nov. 21 as part of his career-spanning Got Back Tour.
Before that, the 'Blackbird' singer stops at Montreal's Bell Centre on Nov. 17 and 18.
The Coliseum's general manager Nick DeLuco promises an extraordinary night for the first concert at the 18,000-seat facility.

The revamped arena has touted a 'premium experience' including improved sightlines, concourses and concession areas; and an upgraded acoustics system.
The Got Back Tour kicks off Sep. 29 in the Palm Springs area and includes stops in Minneapolis and Buffalo, N.Y., before wrapping in Chicago in late November.
Tickets go on sale July 18.

TD Coliseum says it is working with Metrolinx to ease after-concert travel between the nearby West Harbour GO station and Toronto's downtown transit hub, Union Station.
'Opening night deserves something extraordinary, and it doesn't get any better than Paul McCartney,' DeLuco said Thursday in a release.
Other performers confirmed for the TD Coliseum include Andrea Bocelli on Dec. 9, Brad Paisley on Dec. 12, and the 55th annual Juno Awards broadcast.

‘They give us a huge bill': Vancouver Pride says city fees too onerous
On the eve of Vancouver's annual Pride Parade, organizers say they're being forced to shoulder an unfair portion of the costs to put on the event. The Vancouver Pride Society says the City of Vancouver requires it to cover tens of thousands of dollars in cleaning and policing costs. It contrasted that with the Celebration of Light fireworks display, which saw the city take care of those costs. 'The city, it does give us a grant, but it's like a discount basically. They give us a huge bill and say we're going to take a little bit off,' Pride Society secretary Morgane Oger told Global News. 'Last year the final bill from the city was a hundred and something thousand, this year it's looking like we're going to be paying $130,000 all said and done.' With the exception of the fireworks, that FestShare funding is the same for all other events in the city, it said. The Pride Parade is returning for 2025 with a shorter route than in previous years as it grapples with financial pressures, including the growing cost of public safety. The Aug. 3 procession will head from east to west this year, a reversal from previous events, starting at Pacific Boulevard near Griffiths Way. The parade will end at the intersection of Burrard and Pacific streets, a few blocks from the Davie Village Pride Festival, which will take over Davie Street between Burrard and Jervis streets.

Justin Timberlake reveals ‘debilitating' Lyme disease diagnosis
In the final days of his Forget Tomorrow world tour, Justin Timberlake has revealed that he was diagnosed with Lyme disease while on the road. 'Well, as these two incredible years come to an end and I look forward to the future, I wanted to write something from the heart,' he said in a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday. 'It's not an easy task to try to contextualize the whirlwind of touring–– but, I will try…,' he continued. 'I've been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme disease—— which I don't say so you feel bad for me–– but to shed some light on what I've been up against behind the scenes.' The 44-year-old singer described the disease, which is passed on to humans through the bite of infected ticks and can lead to severe pain and fatigue, as 'relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically.' Story continues below advertisement His post was accompanied by a series of photographs from his 24-month stint around the globe, which began in April 2024 and took him everywhere from Buenos Aires to Istanbul. He said the initial diagnosis came as a surprise but that it provided an explanation for unusual physical struggles he had experienced while on stage. But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness,' Timberlake explained, adding that at one point he was unsure if he could continue with the tour. 'I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going,' the Rock Your Body singer wrote. Story continues below advertisement Timberlake, who is married to actor Jessica Biel, 43, with whom he shares two sons, Silas, 10, and Phineas, 4, revealed he was unsure whether it was right to publicly disclose his diagnosis. 'I was reluctant to talk about this because I was always raised to keep something like this to yourself. But I am trying to be more transparent about my struggles so that they aren't misinterpreted,' he wrote. In February, he was forced to cancel a show hours before it was supposed to start due to health reasons. 'You guys, I'm heartbroken, have to cancel the show tonight,' he wrote on Instagram. Timeberlake concluded his post by thanking his tour crew for being his 'beautiful family away from home,' before offering support to others with Lyme disease and extending well wishes to his fans. You are my heart and my home. I'm on my way…' Timberlake played his last show of the tour in Paris on July 20. Timberlake is not the only high-profile person to be diagnosed with Lyme disease. In 2020, singer Justin Bieber revealed he had contracted the illness. Fellow Canadians Shania Twain and Avril Lavigne were also diagnosed with Lyme disease. According to the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation, infections are on the rise in Canada. Because not all cases are diagnosed and reported, the actual numbers are likely much higher. The earlier one receives treatment for Lyme disease, the better — but because symptoms vary from person to person it can be difficult to diagnose. Early symptoms of Lyme disease may be similar to the flu or a cold. You may also have a 'bullseye'-type rash, though that doesn't appear in all diagnosed people. Be sure to contact your physician should you experience any Lyme disease symptoms. Story continues below advertisement The symptoms are myriad, but some include: intense fatigue, double or blurry vision, fuzzy hearing, diarrhea, unexplained shaking or tremors and memory loss.

Justin Trudeau spotted at Katy Perry's Montreal concert with his daughter
Justin Trudeau was spotted at a Katy Perry concert in Montreal on Wednesday night, days after the pop star and the former Canadian prime minister were seen dining together at a restaurant in the city. A video of the concert shows the former Liberal Party leader, 53, singing along as Perry performed her song Dark Horse. The Firework singer, 40, is currently on her Lifetimes Tour and is set to perform in Quebec City on Friday.
